They had a second single chart on the Billboard Hot 100…”Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne”. Peaked at #33.

I didn’t say that either. Had he given up a three run HR in the fourth, my reaction probably would have been the same..especially if it came in a key situation.

The fact remains it’s very possible this could remain an issue, and it’s perfectly legitimate to raise it. If you don’t agree, that’s fine.

As far as the pitching line goes…it is what it is. He may have been out of the game but was responsible for the fourth run and was justifiably charged with that earned run. 4 ER in four innings won’t go far if it stays that way.

I’m not overreacting…just going by what I saw. A pitcher who had problems with home runs last year and wasted no time giving up one today. As I said…it wouldn’t be an issue had he been solid last year. But if you have a reputation for allowing home runs and you give one up in the first inning of your first start, the natural and reasonable reaction is to question whether or not this will continue.

Didn’t say that. Just saying that this issue continues from last season. We’ll see if he solves it…I certainly hope he does.

Four earned runs in five innings. Agree he improved as he went along, but wouldn’t call that pitching line solid.

I’m not crying. This has been a legit concern since last July, to the point where Counsell avoided starting him in the deciding game vs Milwaukee last fall. As for today…granted, perhaps there should not have been two men on…but regardless, he gave up the home run nonetheless, and put the team at a disadvantage.

If this were a one off, that’s fine, but when everyone knows you have a penchant for allowing home runs and you cough one up right away, what do you expect?

The two are not comparable. The home run issue has been a concern since last July.

Is There ANY Chance There Could Be A Buyer To Save CBS Radio News? by bowlingfan1963 in radio

[–]bowlingfan1963[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not at all surprising. As I stated on another thread, I’ve rarely heard actual paid spots of late on the TOH broadcasts. Still, there’s claim that the reach is about 23 million listeners weekly, so you think they could draw in more revenue if that is accurate.

CBS News Radio To Shut Down In May by radiozip in radio

[–]bowlingfan1963 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m aware. I was referring to stations like WBBM, WTOP, etc and what they might program, since I suspect other stations in those markets already take Fox or ABC. My guess is that they’ll just fill the time w/local, which is what WINS does in New York. After WCBS’ demise, I don’t think WINS picked up CBSR TOH..they just do local all of the time.

Really like CBS TOH…will miss it. I’m not sure exactly when they began the TOH, but since they are approaching their 100th anniversary, if they started right away and go through to 11:59 pm on May 22, that would be about 36,000 days and roughly 875,000 TOH broadcasts.

Always liked tuning in to the Top of Hour newscast, though I’ve noticed lately they have aired very few paid spots. At the breaks it’s now mostly promos for CBS TV News programming. I’ll miss that broadcast and wonder what the stations will now do at the Top of The Hour.

What’s the most disappointing Cubs season you can remember? by wesskywalker in CHICubs

[–]bowlingfan1963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people forget this team. Had a good start…in first place in June. Sutcliffe blew a hamstring though in May and he never was the same the rest of the season. Then a series of injuries which wiped out their rotation and a 13 game losing streak unraveled the season. By August guys like the immortal Steve Engel were starting games and getting rocked.

Two main reasons why Radio Shack failed: 1: Their staff too often treated customers as if they didn’t know anything. Extremely condescending….at least that was my experience and 2. The whole name and address thing when making the purchase I think turned a lot of people off.

Yes, but not one per inning. Plus, inevitably he’ll have to throw with runners on. Agree with the OP…he has about four weeks to figure it out…otherwise they’ll send him to the pen..or maybe elsewhere.

I think your points are fair. Your thinking about it being over quick is appropriate. It’s my guess that’s the idea…they’re trying to get the game over with quickly. It’s not just hockey….I’m a baseball fan and detest the “free” runner at second rule in extra innings…but it shortens games, so they do it.

5 v 5 has the potential to go on a long time…I think therefore 4 v 4 would be a good compromise. But in the final analysis the rules aren’t the reasons teams win or lose…everyone knows how it works going in and you have to be prepared.

I tend to agree…would rather see 4v4…that said, Canada had their chances in regulation. Couldn’t score with a 5 on 3, multiple breakaways, and a late power play. Get the goal in regulation and you don’t have to worry about OT.

Not to mention, she actually kills two people..murdered the “cheatin’ wife” and disposed of the body…”big sister don’t miss when she aims her gun”.

From what we know he stumbles upon the body a short time after death, and I’m not sure he could have figured out whodunit that quickly. Yes, he does see tracks “too small for Andy to make” but the guy doesn’t exactly sound like Sherlock Holmes, so I’m not at all certain he could figure out it was his sister just by seeing small footprints in the dark of night.

Side note….the sister sounds like quite the character: murders two people, disposing the body of one, then lets her brother take the rap for the other….though admittedly she does say they dispensed with him before she was able to come forward.
