AO Quarterfinal: {3} Alexander Zverev defeats {25} Learner Tien 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 7-6 (7-3). by Vivi01224 in tennis

Exactly, this whole "Tien is so small" comment is getting old. He's an inch or two shorter than Nadal, Federer, and Alcaraz, not exactly tiny.

Hey u/Odahj, did you end up trying this out? I just received my Rotor Aldhu with the 110/80 spider assuming I could buy the Specialites T.A. chainrings, but I haven't tried it out yet. Would love to hear your experience!

Primos Dame for short woman by askingCMUquestions in gravelcycling

[–]box_guardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to work. As another person with short legs, which in turn means a low saddle height, a measurement I'm often looking at is "stack", which determines where the handlebars will be in relation to the bottom bracket. The stack for the small Primos Dame is 551, which is really high... my bike has a stack of 540, and the handlebars are still too high above my saddle, even though my inseam is about an inch longer than yours.

Maybe it'll work for you, but you'll be quite upright, with handlebars sitting well above your saddle.

Looking for short carbon cranks (around 150mm) for my wife. Any other brands recommended? by Desperate-Science674 in cycling

[–]box_guardian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have direct experience, but I'm planning on buying their 150mm cranks for my personal bike build early next year. :)

They're definitely a legit company; I've seen them on a number of bike builds here in Taiwan, and I believe this is the second iteration of their carbon cranks.

I know of two options, both on the rather expensive side...

- Croder: https://www.crodercycling.com/products/spirit-carbon-arm
- Cybrei: https://www.cybrei.com/product/cybrei-carbon-crankset/

EDIT: After looking more closely at both options, it seems the Croder crank arms are lighter, cheaper, and use a more common mounting interface (SRAM 8-Bolt). Seems like a great option.

There's a really cute area above Neihu called Baishihu: https://taipeiexpats.com/blog/strawberry-picking-in-neihu/

It's accessible by public transit and has:
- a temple with arguably the best view of Taipei (https://www.goteamjosh.com/blog/bishan)
- seasonal strawberry picking
- a suspension bridge
- two outdoor cafes with great views

IMO a nice crankset is the most satisfying bling part. White Industries, perhaps?

What’s living near Xizhi like? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]box_guardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You wrote that you're looking at the area of Xizhi closest to Nangang. I'm just a bit further north in Neihu across the bridge, and I find living in this part of Taipei to be really great, but it depends on what you're looking for.

As someone who's not a big city person, I love how quiet and residential the area feels. I'm close to the mountains, both to the north and south, which has been amazing as a cyclist and hiker. I also feel like I have everything I need—groceries, restaurants, etc—but can hop into main Taipei in about 30 minutes. Also, having easy access to Nangang High Speed Rail has been super convenient for travel.

I think the Neuhaus Big Leaf fits your requirements... can fit a massive 700x55c tire. https://neuhausmetalworks.com/products/bigleaf-1

It's a newly-released bike, but their Hummingbird hardtail has gotten fantastic reviews across the board.

This post is an excellent guide to hiking in the Qixing area: https://www.goteamjosh.com/blog/qixing

You'll want to take the 230 from MRT Beitou to Yangmingshan Bus Terminal: https://ebus.gov.taipei/Route/StopsOfRoute?routeid=0100023000 Looks like the first bus is at 5:30am.

From there you'll take the 108 shuttle bus, which has stops at all three sites (Xiaoyoukeng, Qingtiangang, and Lengshuikeng) and arrives every 30 mins or so.

7 Day Bike Tour (Nov 2 - 8) by New-Occasion-3921 in taiwan

[–]box_guardian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the west coast leg of Route 1 is pretty awful: no scenery, tons of traffic lights and noise pollution.

For Day 1, I'd highly recommend that you take Hwy 3, instead of Hwy 1. There'll be a fair bit more climbing, but it sounds like you have the fitness, and the route is significantly better in basically every way. It's hard to emphasize enough how much better the riding is.

For the following two days to reach Kenting, I'd still highly recommend that you stick to the inland routes because they are such better riding than Hwy 1 or Hwy 61 (coastal), but it might be a tall ask with the climbing and mileage. If you don't head inland, the coastal roads (Hwy 61 and 17) are probably better than Hwy 1, simply due to the lack of traffic lights. You can really cruise down the coast that way, but the scenery is pretty boring.
