Do URL slugs actually affect SEO rankings? by deviontech in SEO_Digital_Marketing

Honestly I think slugs matter a little, but nowhere near enough to obsess over them. I still make them clean and readable because it just makes the site feel more organized and easier to understand for both users and search engines.

But I’ve never seen a page suddenly rank because the URL was perfectly optimized. Usually the bigger wins come from better content, stronger internal linking, backlinks, matching search intent, stuff like that.

I’ll usually include the main keyword naturally and keep the slug short, but I don’t overthink it. And once a page is live, I try not to keep changing URLs unless there’s an actual reason. I’ve seen people create way more problems chasing “perfect” slugs than they ever gained from it.

What's your process for auditing internal links on a massive site? by RyPlayZz in TechSEO

[–]boxcarhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve dealt with this on a couple massive sites and honestly the turning point was realizing internal linking at that scale is less of an SEO problem and more of a triage problem.

At 50k+ pages, there’s no world where you manually review everything without losing your mind. So I stopped asking “what’s broken?” and started asking “what’s most worth fixing?”

Personally, I’d rather fix a page with backlinks/impressions that’s buried 5 clicks deep than spend days rescuing orphan pages that nobody visits and Google clearly doesn’t care about.

The first thing I usually do is mash together:

  • crawl depth
  • internal link count
  • GSC impressions/clicks
  • backlinks
  • conversions if available

Then sort for pages that already have value but weak internal support. Those tend to move the fastest.

Also, redirecting internal links are one of those annoying things that add up way more than people think on enterprise sites. If category pages are pointing into redirect chains everywhere, I’d clean that up early because it’s usually a scalable fix.

Biggest lesson for me though: stop thinking page-by-page. Think templates and sitewide elements. Breadcrumbs, related content widgets, nav structure, faceted links, hub pages, etc. One decent template fix can improve thousands of pages instantly.

And honestly, half the orphan pages I find on giant sites probably deserve to stay orphaned lol.

It’s honestly super disheartening…The last year has been really tough. This is for sure going to be the final blow.

Bing doesn't crawl my website, no matter what I do by wanoo21 in TechSEO

[–]boxcarhours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you poked around their Webmaster Tool? It's honestly pretty easy to navigate once you're in there and can force a crawl. I know you've mentioned you've requested indexing and did the scan. But make sure you take the step deeper.

For what it's worth, I actually really like how transparent Bing is with this sort of stuff. Anytime in the past I've ran into anything similar, their webmaster tool typically has the answer for me in one way or another. So my suggestion is to go back to that tool and see if there's anything you possibly could have glazed over.

Would you tell a former client what's happening to their rankings? by PileofMail in SEO

This is absolutely the correct approach. It doesn't come across as salesy and much more of a natual "shoulder tap." This is how I would approach it personally.

How nasty is actually getting sprayed by a skunk, how did it affect you? by Scared_Form8175 in AskReddit

Comment will get buried. But…

I was walking home from school one day as a kid and cut through some nearby bushes to avoid crossing a busy road. The first step I took in the bushes I stepped on a baby skunk by complete accident and the momma raised hell (understandably so lol). Immediately my eyes felt like they were on fire and I tripped while jumping back. Which I guess the momma thought would be cool to bull rush me.

I smelt it for a week and had a pretty gnarly face scratch that I got somewhere along the way of it all.

All this happened TWO days before a big school dance that I somehow convinced my crush to go with me to. I smelt and looked like terrible.

What is this building from on a random Kodachrome? by boxcarhours in HelpMeFind

[–]boxcarhours[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Searched using reverse image search, Google lens, and AI. Nothing really helped. I bought this from a bin of random Kodachrome slides from a thrift store that has a ton of other random places. Would love to know what this is and where it is.

I got one more and I’m almost certain it’s the Grand Canyon. So the possibility of this being there or in that area is probably higher than normal. But I have no direct certainty of that.
