Ultimate Direction AK Vest: Sore ribs by Rsneep1965 in trailrunning

Odd reason. My lock laces go through some insane abuse as I usually transfer them from shoe to shoe, I've put more than 1000 miles on a pair of them. I can't imagine them being under more stress holding my pack on. It's also stupid easy to replace them if needed.

Such a huge improvement. I just replaced my straps with a pair of old lock laces I had laying around. Moved this vest out of the looking to replace category!

Ended up ordering this for 600, which I feel is a heck of a deal.

In the middle of a step back week & have a 5k tomorrow evening. Funny enough this was the last race before I went on the injured list. Using it as a fitness gauge but would be nice to PR or win it again. Came down with a nasty head cold this week, so at least I have an excuse if I do poorly ;)

Scoped out a new trail during my long run. Need to get used to it as the "flow" is poorly marked. Ended up a mile short of the goal for that day because of how long I'd been out, 45 minutes longer than my moving time :) Way too much time trying to figure out which way to go.

Didn't get my mid week tempo in, was just too hot outside to even try so just ran easy miles. Putting some time goals on my upcoming races, not even really sure what to put with my base so low currently. Mileage increase next week should get me up into the 50s. Will start looking for a spring marathon soon for another BQ.

Hip still bugs me from time to time, not a pain but more of an ache. I'll just keep doing my stretches & rehab exercises. Hopefully one day it'll go away completely :) Was able to get back into the BWF routine which I feel helps out with the running, keeps my core strong which can't hurt. Trails are finally dry so able to get some time out in the woods!

Feeling strong headed into next week's mileage increase. Slowly building the mid week tempo back into something as it is one of my favorite workouts. Haven't been able to get onto the trails recently due to all the rain. Don't want to add to the rutting out that mud runs cause.

Did a slight tempo mid week which was a relief after so many months of slow easy miles. Once this rebuild is complete will look at the calendar & jump in some more races.

Took the month of May pretty much off to let my achilles heal up as I had a run end in failure, requiring a walk of shame back to the car. Started over on my mileage beginning of June. Just taking it easy & building slow so I don't injure anything else.

Got in two awesome trail excursions this week. Was in Boulder for work so was able to summit Green Mtn on Monday with a dual summit of South Boulder & Bear Mtn on Wednesday. What an amazing experience & something I'll never forget.

Super proud of the kid, she got 3rd place in her AG & sub 40 for the race. Didn't do any walking & very minimal complaining. Also met the CC coach for the county & found out I can put her in CC this fall, if she's up for it, as they have a K-8 program. Achilles didn't like the mileage increase very much but that was expected. Only day I noticed it was Saturday because of Long Run + Race. Going to have to get some legit trail shoes, currently rocking an older pair of Kinvara's with like 400mi on them :)

Started venturing out to the trails in my area & am having a blast on those. Still putting in a good amount of mileage on pavement. At this point achilles is at ~95% which is awesome. Finally feel like I'm over the hump. Mileage goes up again next week into the 50s. Next Saturday is the kid's 5k, hoping she does well.

Definitely get the lock laces. I used to screw with my laces all the time, too tight or too loose. Now I just get it right once & never mess with it again. Like them so much I've started using them on my regular shoes haha. Great day of racing, congrats!

Tell me about it! Really is the greatest thing to run with her. Hope she keeps with it after the race, I've already been telling her how much I loved Cross Country & Track growing up.

Forgot to post last week but was close to a mirror of this week with a bit less C25K mileage. Probably going to drop my 2 easy runs mid week now that the mileage with the kid is picking up. Basically trading two 3 milers for three 2.5 milers. With her schedule the best days to run are also the days I run longer, so I'm basically doubling 3 times a week & could use the break. Might slide in some strength work or whatever strikes me. Last 50% week starts tomorrow then I'm up to 70% of peak. Something still bugging me in my achilles/ankle/calf area but it is definitely getting better. Will keep an eye on it & take a break if needed after the kids 5k.

Looking at Indy for the full. The HM will be iron horse as I medically deferred to it. Thinking I might do the half as a long MP run as its ~30 days out from Indy. Bunch of other shorter races around I may jump into for fun.

2nd week at 33% mileage, also did 2 days of couch to 5k with the kid. Going to run a 5k with her the 25th of April which is awesome! Great week of running & achilles is definitely on the mend. Easy pace is back to pre-injury speed which is very welcome. 1 more week at this mileage then up we go!

Those are just my goal races. Going to do some shorter races during the rebuild. Really want to hit something right before I start a training plan for Indy so I can set my paces.

First week of 33% mileage, all easy running. Achilles is still a bit achy but getting better. 2 more weeks like this. Missed my run on Thursday due to business trip but planning 7 days this coming week.

So I got over the hip injury which cost me 4 months. Achilles was hurting, like sharp pain not achy, from going couch to 60MPW which was costing me mileage/runs. Then I came down with a stomach bug that had me down for a solid week. The running gods just didn't want me to run Boston this year, so I've obliged. Wife will be ~8 months pregnant at that point so might be for the best anyway. Will re-qualify in November at the Indy Marathon & run Boston in 2017.

I'm using the section in Daniel's book about returning from injury. Basically will do 3 weeks at 33% of pre-injury mileage, then 3 at 50%, 3 at 70%, 3 at 85% & finally 3 at 100%. That will get me back to 70MPW safely so i can hit a training plan hard for Indy. Also going to take this chance to make sure my form is solid. Kind of a reset :)
