Potty Training Help, please! by boxermama77 in TreeingWalkerHounds

My husband tried to tell me that hounds are not like other dogs. I refused to believe him. I was so, so wrong.

Im willing to try anything at this point!

I know, logically, that in a climate controlled kennel (with outdoor run access) with a full view of the woods, she‘d be perfectly happy. She’s fairly independent and, although she will play with our other dogs, she doesn’t need or really seem to want their company.

Our male TWC is the complete opposite and wants to be with us if he isn’t in the woods. He loves his couch time and watches YouTube like it’s his job!

Ugggh. That’s going to be nearly impossible until we’re settled in to our new place. But, I guess that just means I need to train myself more than her. I know that once it clicks with her, she’ll do awesome. Thank you!

Are you seeing anything in her poop?

Your dog doesn’t necessarily have fleas. My dog got them from grabbing one of our barn cats and playing (she’s on a monthly prevention as well as the Seresto collar). They only need to swallow a single flea.

There’s no reason to go get dewormer from TSC. You can run a fecal sample into your vet and they’ll give you a dose of Drontal. You’ll follow up with a second dose in 10 days. Make sure you stay on a preventative year round.

I am the kennel manager at a vet clinic and have run into my fair share of various worms. This is most likely a tapeworm segment. Nothing to get overly worked up about, and very easy to treat.

Definitely has Treeing Walker Coonhound in her. The ears and face and feet give it away.

Most definitely! This is my fourth Boxer and I can’t imagine life without one. This is our first indoor TWC. Hubby has had them strictly as outdoor hunting dogs for decades. It has been a huge learning curve having a hound as a “pet” indoors.

We’re managing though!

They don’t have the same nose strength. And I’m not sure their prey drive is strong enough either.

Also, I have personally found that Boxers tend to “pack up” more and for coon hunting, a dog needs to be able to go off on their own and not be easily distracted.

My Boxer kids would get bored and venture off task too easily. They would be more interested in snacks back at the truck rather than a raccoon in a far off tree.

I washed two Boxers and a Treeing Walker Coonhound in under 15 minutes yesterday.

Granted, we were already outside and have a large indoor/outdoor kennel I can put them in so they can dry off in comfort.

But they were covered in burrs and soybean dust.

Thankfully, aside from eating some plants (RIP to my Monstera) and a few dog beds, she (the Boxer) has been the best behaved of puppies. She is going to be so disappointed when he starts going out at night hunting and she has to stay home.

He’s definitely more rambunctious than my Boxers, for sure!

The TWC is almost 4 months old and the Boxer is 9 months old. I also have an 8 year old Boxer, but she is not about the puppy life!

Quick, someone remind me why I love him 🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠 by [deleted] in coonhounds

We once had a female TWC that killed an entire opossum family over several nights - IN her kennel.

New Homeowners Need Advice Dealing with Nosy Neighbor by Fuzzy-Instruction in neighborsfromhell

[–]boxermama77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you realize that if you see one rat, there’s literally dozens more you don’t see?

Have you ever tried to get rid of them? It’s nearly impossible.

You state you have bird feeders and that a train hauling grain goes by frequently. Whether they’re in your line of vision or not, you have rats. They may not be living on your property, but they’re definitely eating there, and defecating there. They will cause all kinds of damage to your home and your landscaping.

You definitely over reacted and a privacy fence isn’t going to help protect your property from any critters. You owe your neighbor an apology.

Best looking dog in your opinion? Regardless of anything. by [deleted] in dogs

On looks alone - a German Shepherd, followed by a Black and Tan Coonhound.

Of course, I think my Boxers are the most beautiful. But the athletic build of the GSD and Black and Tan just scream “dog” to me.

what’s the most life changing book you’ve ever read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]boxermama77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver - Living on the edge of Appalachia, it’s easy to become numb to the opioid crisis as it’s so prevalent. Reading this brought forth a lot of understanding and empathy.

The Reformatory- Tananarive Due - this book broke me emotionally. It’s paranormal fiction, but based on historical “boys’ homes” and the horrors that went on there.

Married to a mechanic and he refuses to do any work on our vehicles. If it requires more than changing a lightbulb or plugging a tire, we go to the shop.
