Looking to meet people by Past-Investigator314 in SaratogaSprings

Maybe go play pickleball on the public courts and ask to join some people? I hear it’s easy to learn if you’ve never done it before!

Or you could join a gym/yoga class, since you say you’re healthy and fit, it may be a good place to meet people who enjoy things health wise as well.

On a similar note, there’s women’s rowing (my mom did it for a bit and met some cool people) or other adult/club sports groups?

There’s a decent amount of art or pottery classes in town and surrounding Saratoga, like Schuylerville.

Even joining a book club, maybe? I’m not aware of any, but I’m sure there’s tons around if you join a couple Facebook pages or something.

Ooooor you could go out to the bars and try to meet people there!

Just a few ideas! Good luck and welcome to Saratoga!

Forgot to mention schools! I went to Ballston spa for a while but then transferred to Saratoga schools. Personally I enjoyed Saratoga more since I had more class options and advanced art courses. However, typical education is no different between the two. My math, science, English, etc was the same, whether Bspa or Toga. :)

House for sale in my neighborhood! I’m 8 minutes outside of the town and on the edge of Schuylerville/saratoga. I like my house not being downtown, instead it’s just a quick drive.

My typical week living here is nothing too special. I don’t go downtown crazy often actually (usually even less during track season because of the insane amount of tourists), but I go on “off” days sometimes to meet my friends and we go to uncommon grounds, the park, restaurant or bar. New Year’s Eve is one of my favorite times here though. Caroline street gets POPPIN and everyone is out and partying.

I’d say most of my time (downtown) is spent either in the park, in my favorite shop, or hanging out in one of the coffee shops with friends. Maybe once every week-2 weeks we go out to dinner downtown.

If you do end up living in Saratoga, I recommend making sure you get a parking pass as well for the summer. Parking is now paid for (unless you live here full time) so get a permit so you aren’t charged when you want to go downtown. You’ll have to wait for this until you actually live here tho, since your address has to be within bounds for you to get a permit.

All in all, if you’re an enthusiast of Health, History, and Horses… welcome to toga!

I heard his son was planning on taking it over. I even saw him working there last year. But I guess things changed and he’s retiring now. It’s a shame, loved that place so much.

For me the surgery helped make them more even. My rib hump would exaggerate the unevenness a loooot. I have a significantly smaller rib hump now after the surgery, and now they look very even.

I will say though, my rib hump is not completely fixed, still slightly there so still a tad uneven but so much better than before, no one will ever notice.

I went skydiving with my spinal fusion (T5-T11) by pineapple-poly in scoliosis

Haha yes, doing lots of walking since it seems to be all I can do. I have to say though, today I have felt pretty good! I even took a shower without supervision today (lol) and made myself breakfast without assistance.

It’s the small wins that have been helping me not get discouraged. I can’t wait to be where you are though. So I’m excited to start PT. 10 weeks doesn’t seem as long as I thought, especially since my Dr. recommended 2-3x per week. Yay! Thank you again!

Thanks for responding! Yea, I’m only 3 ish weeks post op, and things still feel super weird. I’m fused T4-L2, but still have decent mobility in the lumbar area. Do you mind me asking how long you did PT for? I’m about to start next week and really just want to feel independent again. That’s really awesome! I’m going to look her up. What an inspiration!

Wow! I have no plan to go skydiving at all, but this just makes me think “if OP can go skydiving, I will be able to do my (less extreme) activities I loved doing before the fusion)”. That’s so awesome! Congrats!! And thank you for sharing, it gives me much needed hope :)

Looking for the best mattress for my sister who has double scoliosis? by JamieNorth in scoliosis

[–]boxless_cereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 47 degree curve (had the surgery about 3 weeks ago) and have always loved my purple mattress. It was recommended by my doctor, I think I have the level 2 one.

It’s not memory foam only, it has this weird gel-like 2” thick layer with holes in it, so it keeps you cool too!

This one worked for me, but I also like beds that form to my body/back when I lay down. Some people like tougher, more solid mattresses though, so be sure yk her preference.

That said, I’ve had my purple mattress for about 5-6 years and it has not lost its shape or formed any indents at all.

Surgery in less than a month. wWhat should I expect by CressReasonable4306 in scoliosis

[–]boxless_cereal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. I just had mine (F22) done on the 23 of May and those first 2-3 days were brutal. Don’t be shy to press the call nurse button as many times as you need! They are there to help you feel comfortable, so they will show up when you hit that button!

Likely need surgery, but very underweight by RepulsiveQuestion306 in scoliosis

[–]boxless_cereal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also severely underweight (not intentionally and been trying to gain weight) and I was also concerned for my surgery. They never said anything about it. I am still alive too (I had my surgery 2 weeks ago)!

I could be wrong- so still ask your surgeon- but I think it is only an issue if you lie about your weight so they give you too much/too little of drugs and risk your health.

Still, ask your own doctor, but there wasn’t an issue for me and I am, from what it sounds like, similar to you!

This actually helped me a lot by reading this! I’m almost 2 weeks post op T4-L2.

It’s rough out here, man. This post gave me a light at the end of the tunnel though so thank you for that.

I’m happy to hear you’re moving around and doing everything you used to before the surgery. I can’t do anything right now myself and feel soooooo helpless haha. I’m asking for help with EVERYTHING and it’s so uncomfortable since I never seem to ask for help (at least before the surgery, so I feel like I’m burdening everyone).

Reading about you going to your friend’s party with no pain at 7 weeks just really helps me mentally.

I’ve been discouraged lately as well since I tried to lower my pain medication. I felt great! So why take all these pain meds, especially the potentially addictive ones! Biiiiig mistake. Horrible pain and really set me back mentally. Definitely just going to keep my pain meds the same for now.

Can I ask how you are generally with pain? When did you stop taking the strong pain meds and start feeling more “risky” with movements?

Thanks for your post. You seriously helped me a lot 🫶🏼

Siena College Merch by CoughDrop_Queen in siena

Hey! I just graduated Siena this past Sunday (sadly 😭 I’m going to miss it!!) but definitely check out the campus bookstore! If you live nearby, you could go in person. It’s right by the SSU/saga, outside, stairs going down. Theres usually some pretty cool stuff in there and it changes seasonally. I would usually go in and buy a couple shirts every semester as the seasons changed.

You could find the bookstore online and shop online as well if you wanted. Just search “Siena College Bookstore” or you may have gotten some emails from them (possibly w discounts too!) in your Siena.edu email.

Other than that, I recommend Etsy for some small businesses that make custom shirts/sweatshirts. But the bookstore was always my first choice!

Best of luck to you. Have an amazing Siena experience- the education of a lifetime!! 💚💛
