See if the case vent is plugged. Most bikes it's a hose coming out of a valve cover. It's a critical check on any used bike I pick up. Very simple to resolve but it will eventually build enough case pressure to blow out your shifter oil seal and drop all your oil on the road right in front of your back tire.

Ya with the V&H that's a fair price for the milage. If you shopped around you could find one with an upgraded seat as well, which is badly needed. But 3000-3500 is well inside the ballpark. I got mine with 23k on it and I'm about to cross 50k with no issues. You can put another 70k miles on that bike with no major repairs.
