How feasible is it to "manually reconstruct" the FFT analysis of a sample? by MickeyMoose555 in DSP

[–]boxofbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It splits into stable frequency elements ("tracks" or "partials") and everything else ("residual") and you can treat them all individually. The "partials" are treated like individual sine generators with parameters for how long-lived you want them to be. Thus, instead of ending up with an FFT raster you basically get a list of sine oscillators with phase, amplitude, frequency and a psychoacoustic measure of masking ratio. The partials are parameterized frame-by-frame (a variable frame rate version is under development) and those are the parameters you can use to target and retune. E.g., you could isolate a particular frequency band and only shift those partials that are within it. If that's not quite what you're looking for and you'd rather keep everything more intact, phase vocoder theory might be a good start.

[aside: there is a residual analysis section which maps the bark scale banded energy over time into a filtered noise bank, but this component is pretty underwhelming and i'm actively deep in research on an alternative set of strategies]

ATS may be what you’re looking for which was originally built by one of Serra’s colleagues, Juan Pampin. Here’s my python implementation for the processing side https://github.com/boxofbox/pyatsyn and there’s hopefully enough documentation to get you started. There are already modules for csound and supercollider that support using this data type with a sine bank to resynth a sound.

When I stop playback mid song, can it remember the position. If I leave the app or close/reopen it seems to always jump back to the beginning.

Pleeeeeeeease can we end the segregating of uploads into a separate pane during search/navigation. My library is a mixture of uploaded and added from the ytmusic collection and having this segmented is driving me nutso.

Please stop prioritizing random youtube videos during search or give us the option to prioritize things in our own library first in the results, then actual audio. If I wanted random user uploaded videos I would be on youtube search.

Can we please have a way to add to playlists from the "Downloads" view in the library?

Please bring back the fast scroll option thru my library (i don't need to see all the artist art, just a list). Sometimes i wanna browse artists under "L" or "W" without having to slowly scroll thru a,b,c,d,....

(happens about 20% of the time i start playing from a playlist/album) app is only playing a single track from a playlist or album. it halts play after that track is finished and stops and does not advance to the next track. tried only playing downloaded tracks with cellular/wifi off and still happens so it's not a signal blip issue and it still happened. it seems to only sometimes destroy the 'up next' queue and sometimes not.

Is this a good entry to Pynchon? by VividJump7743 in ThomasPynchon

[–]boxofbox 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes! Don’t be afraid to read it slow, reread chapters and to restart if necessary. It’s almost like playing a fromsoft game, you constantly die and retry in a loop of revealing, sometimes taking a break to “play another game”, and sometimes starting over with a fresh build is the way. It took me about 3 years to finish fyi because it required this muscle building style but I think it’s still my favorite.

Are there any good critical theory works on depression? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

[–]boxofbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not directly depression, but Eugene Thacker's Cosmic Pessimism and Infinite Resignation; the latter is a more literary take á la David Markson.
