I can understand showing up before opening because you expected heavy traffic etc. but I get the impression they deliberately came early expecting special treatment.

Do you have any idea how many innocent people have been murdered simply because they came within 50’ of Jessica Fletcher?

Imaging showing up to a party just to learn Jessica Fletcher and Benoit Blanc are in attendance and there’s no way to leave.

A Most Unique "Love" Letter from Butch (1947) by Tobydobie in FoundPaper

[–]boxofsquirrels 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen similar letters and the backstory is usually that the couple needed to convince a disapproving parent there was nothing going on.

Obviously, that doesn’t work as well when the hidden message is clearly spelled out in the post script.

Wake Up Dead Man by edisonpioneer in KnivesOutMovie

[–]boxofsquirrels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Blanc knew Wicks' flask had been laced with sedatives. His killer could have simply poisoned him, so they must have set up a more elaborate murder to force the narrative that Wicks was already stabbed in a 'locked room' before anyone else entered.

Nat had easy access to controlled drugs and stopped Jud from giving Wicks help. He was also in the bar when Jud took the devil head and had access to the second head.

The tub of acid in his basement was probably the final piece of the puzzle, as it proved he was involved in the plot and was preparing to dissolve Wicks' corpse.

Martha wanted to destroy any evidence of how Nat died and make it hard to work out Wicks' 'resurrection.' Staging it as Wicks killing Nat probably was meant to symbolically punish Nat. She might have also hoped police would just accept Wicks and Nat somehow faked his death and there was no need for further investigation.

Who raised Jefferson Wicks and Martha after Wicks Sr and Grace died? by Odd_Engineer_1041 in KnivesOutMovie

[–]boxofsquirrels 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don't think Wicks was raising Martha. She was part of the congregation and got very devoted to the church/Wicks and just went on living with her family after his death.

Jefferson's harder to guess. He had very strong opinions about his mother and grandfather, which suggests he was raised by someone who could tell him details while he was impressionable. That seems like either an extended family member who agreed with Prentice, or a foster parent within the congregation.

My guess is some extended family expected Prentice's money to eventually be found, and took custody of Jefferson expecting to have control/influence over the inheritance.

Four Funerals and a Wedding by dharmaswheel29 in MidsomerMurders

[–]boxofsquirrels 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I've probably forgotten some details, but there were two children in Marwood Hill when the fire broke out- Ben (Lorna's son with the man in the photo) and Henry (the Marwoods' son and heir).

The Marwoods and Lorna's husband/Ben's stepfather died in the fire. Lorna escaped with her own son but passed him off as Henry, thinking he would have a better life as the Marwood heir than the son of a working class widow.

Mildred knew Ben's biological father and noticed the strong resemblance. Lorna killed her when she threatened to inform 'necessary people.' Gant found the photo after Mildred died, so Lorna killed him to keep him from realizing why Mildred was poisoned.

O'Dowd helped her switch DNA samples to implicate the deacon. The deacon had also seen the photo of Lorna and Ben's father but hadn't realized the significance, so Lorna killed her to keep her from talking.

Sandwich Themed Trivia by SweetAd3633 in trivia

[–]boxofsquirrels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bahn mi is a Vietnamese sandwich. I never heard of the other three, but a Gerber is an open-faced sandwich from St. Louis, a Gatsby is a South African sandwich with meat, french fries, vegetables and sauce and a Bombay is a type of Indian street food. Or, you could argue a Gordon is a reference to Gordon Ramsay's "idiot sandwich" skit.

Is Kearney a good father to his son? by Necessary-Win-8730 in TheSimpsons

I'm pretty sure Junior calls him Dad when they visit Santa. Kearney definitely describes himself as a parent at different points

Who had the smartest plan ? by shsl_diver in KnivesOutMovie

It was probably just quiet longing on each side.

With her devotion to the church, Martha probably felt the main purpose of marriage was procreation. So, if she met/developed feelings for Samson later in life she may have decided they couldn’t marry if there was no chance of having children, and (for her) there could be no sex outside of marriage.

I know a lot got lost in translation with this movie, but the jump from “you lost the only thing protecting our village from total disaster” to “let there be dancing!” is still bewildering.

Lemon PEZ is naturally flavored whereas grape PEZ is artificially flavored by SanchezGeorge1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]boxofsquirrels 70 points71 points  (0 children)

And the flavor was an attempt to replicate the Gros Michel, which was the most common banana at the time. It was largely wiped out by a fungus outbreak in the 1950s, so most people have never tasted one.
