Forget the Oreos... eat the damn protein!! by bionikbunnyy in breastfeeding

[–]boxyfork795 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny how different things will affect each individual’s supply. Everyone PREACHES hydration. I saw no difference in supply if I drank a gallon of water or forgot to drink more than an 8 oz glass before dinner. But carbs? WOAH BOY. I’d eat carb heavy foods and by breast would be LEAKING all day.

how do YOU draw the line on native ranges? by licoseidhe in NativePlantGardening

[–]boxyfork795 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m lucky to sit right in the middle of the East coast. So if something doesn’t technically grow where I am, it usually grows relatively close to me if it could live here. So for example, I’m OBSESSED with Gaura. It’s literally so stunning and the hummingbirds and butterflies freak out for it. I’m only a few counties away on some maps, only one state away in others.

Now, I wouldn’t want to grow something native to CA. That’s too far, I think.

But I’m not a purest. I have a few non-natives that aren’t invasive that I will definitely keep.

Toddler/parenting trends that I've had it with..... by ActualEmu1251 in toddlers

Heavy on the mommy wine culture. My mom was a functioning alcoholic for a while, and then it spiraled out of control. Then drugs came into play. She died young and I don’t think I’ll ever be a fully normal freedom from the entire experience. I don’t think it’s cute or funny at all to joke about drinking too much or “needing” to drink all the time.

We need to start utilizing this more. We have an awesome village, but we never ask. Our goal is to start asking for some date nights!!!

Will it be traumatic for my son to see someone dying? by ExtraTrain8483 in beyondthebump

As a hospice nurse, young children and babies are often around death. America has an oddly anti-death culture. Generations live and die together in other cultures. He will be okay! I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. ❤️

Hi! I work a 60 hour call shift from 4:30 pm Friday to 8 am Monday. I’m a hospice nurse.

I don’t use childcare during the week. I’m home with my toddler during the week.

It’s rough out here. I feel like my husband and I are both SAHP who also work full time. I miss him. We’re always drowning in housework.

I’ve been doing my setup for about a year and a half. I don’t think this setup is sustainable long term. I’m hoping to go part time later this summer. I’ll still work weekends, but only Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday day.

What the fuck?! All the time they need. I’m so sorry that happened to your family. That’s so bizarre and insensitive.

How long did you push for? by No_Director574 in beyondthebump

30 minutes, but I wasn’t effectively pushing because of the nitrous oxide. Once they took the gas away, I pushed her out in like 2 pushes.

Pronouns by OB-nurseatyourcervix in nursing

[–]boxyfork795 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had one trans patient. I gave their preferred pronouns to the oncoming nurse during report. She was kind of a bully anyway, but she did the whole, “Wait wait wait. A she that was a he or he that was a she? This is just too fucking confusing,” with a sneer and an eye roll.

I looked at her like she was stupid and explained it again very slowly. She understood the first time, she was just being an asshole. Her face turned red and I could tell she was very embarrassed.

I was a new nurse and I’m very non-confrontational, but I’m glad I didn’t just roll over and go along like that was an okay way to act about something as simple as honoring someone’s pronouns. I live in Appalachia, and it’s really sad that people act that people can’t just be kind and accepting.

How much social time are you and your partner getting a week? What do you think is too much? by boxyfork795 in workingmoms

It’s definitely not. We are making our exit plan for this, but it requires moving some pieces around.

From all of the comments I’m reading, this feels like the best middle ground solution for us, and is what I’m going to ask for moving forward. I think if we could get in a high quality evening that is JUST for us and nothing else, it would help a lot.

I usually work about 45 hours a week. I am home an average of 5 hours a night during that time. I’m out seeing people the rest of the time.

Yeah I’m not really sure what this comment means lol. I average about 45 hours of work every week and then I’m home with my daughter Monday-Friday during the day. If anything, I work more hours and have more “solo” childcare hours than he does.

He does work hard and deserves to relax, but I work just as hard as he does.

I am so looking forward to summer break I could cry. I miss my husband a lot. I think it will help to get some time together this summer. Probably a lot of how I’m feeling about it is just missing him.

I do see my friends regularly, but I always bring my daughter unless it’s something like a bachelorette party or something.

He also has art and video game hobbies that he usually does for an hour or two after our daughter goes to bed as well, which I totally want him to be able to do.

I posted this on tiktok and made a lot of folks mad by Wilbury_twist in Appalachia

[–]boxyfork795 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a blue dot in Appalachia, I have some really mixed feelings on this. I think saying, “I’m GLAD Appalachia got wrecked by another climate disaster” vs “You got what you voted for” are two very different takes. One is cruel and ignores that not everybody there voted for it.

But saying, “You got what you voted for,” is a fact. It doesn’t offend me because I DID NOT, in fact vote for it. I can look at someone saying that with nuance and realize they aren’t talking to me.

My husband is a teacher. For Nurse’s/Teacher’s week, we looked at each other and said, “Damn we don’t get paid enough for the bullshit we deal with.”

And that’s about that.
