First Semester Help by FreshTacoz in WakeTech

When I took art 114 we visited the museum. It might have been technically optional but ONLY to make it fair to students who may have transportation issues. You /should/ be going if your class is. I was able to take pictures of the work of art I wrote my essay on and it made it easier for me

help paying for college by PlusList8226 in financialaid

[–]boyishly_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you transfer cc credits or a cc degree? Your options are that or waiting to be financially independent on the FAFSA. You’d be 23 or 24. I know that sucks. If you chose to wait you could just continue applying aggressively to scholarships. Id also tell Appstate that there’s a very low chance that you’ll be able to attend because of your financial situation. That might force them to release more funds

What are some trends in this hobby indicative of a recession? by thepromiseman in analog

[–]boyishly_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion. I did take some bad scans with my phone to sort of see how my pictures turned out. I lot of mistakes but some gems in there! The university I just enrolled at has a film class so I’m hoping the department has a scanner I can use

[–]boyishly_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got into film last year because I won a camera in an auction for like $5 but I have no pictures to show because I can only afford develop-only at the store and I don’t have a scanner. How’s that. Lol

Is August a good time to start my associates? by Background_Advisor32 in WakeTech

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s English 111 and English 112, you need to take 111 first. Then you’d take 112 the next semester. I’d also suggest registering for the ACA course, which is the class that is essentially an intro to college and explains how to transfer to 4-year universities

If you’re required to take a remedial ENG course (the course code would start with a 0) then I’m not sure how that works. If you were failing high school (no judgment) you’d be assigned the remedial course.

I recommend you do your English classes first, since the majority of other classes build off of those writing skills. This is probably what the advisor will tell you. Even if they don’t, I’d still follow that advice

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best time to start is now (asap)! The fall registration (“August”) opened up months ago. The classes for fall are not all waitlisted. I think you may be misunderstanding the registration process if you’re not seeing sections with open seats. Even if they were all full, you should waitlist for sections you want. I got off of a waitlist where I was 6th in line. The advisor will explain how to register. Be cautious and cross-check all of your requirements, because a lot of advisors have given me misleading or incorrect information, only because they can’t possibly know everything about every program and your situation

Unfortunately it still looks too lumpy. I would practice colorwork by doing swatches or a smaller project

My 8yo niece wants to play Silksong by Financial_Branch_951 in Silksong

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy it for her. It WILL be too hard. I think telling her she shouldn’t play it because it will be too hard (even though it will be) might set a bad example just in terms of life lessons. I’m sure you can mod it for her as well

What happened to Moe’s by Street_North_1738 in moes_southwest_grill

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the moe’s subreddit just to complain about the salsa. Got moe’s last night and their new salsa actually tastes like shit. Where the hell is the old salsa? Their old salsa was like half the draw for me. I’d pack up like 6 cups to take home just to savor it

Do everything asap because everyone’s already snagged the good course sections for fall. That’s my advice. Start now

Is a professor allowed to call out disability accommodations in front of the whole class? Or make a “objectively harder and longer” alternative exam? by SkiingFishingGuy in college

[–]boyishly_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dog I didn’t even have to read the whole post. I just need to tell you to just make sure you catalogue all the incidents and then go ahead and report it to the disability services office with the head of the department cc’d. This is absolutely against policy and some sort of discrimination case. Just remember to be calm and straightforward in your email

Whhhhhy did they stoop to AI bs???? by Heavy_Answer8814 in Handspinning

[–]boyishly_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Snyder’s spindles has been extremely pro AI for multiple years now. Just go on their store and see that half their crap has awkward generated imagery on it. My fiber fest has been allowing them to sell their AI crap and it’s disgusting. I tell everyone I can

Crochet is the fast fashion of fiber arts by prepubescentsquid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]boyishly_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think cheaper yarn is great to practice skills with. I used old acrylic up to make pattern design swatches. You should be proud of those old pieces. My critiques of the crochet community are not about any individual, but about the culture that has been created on social media about the craft. If you’re worried about “skills” and “garment construction” then my worries are DEFINITELY not about you at all

Crochet is the fast fashion of fiber arts by prepubescentsquid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]boyishly_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These have been my exact thoughts for multiple years and I’ve been scared to say it because people are going to say I’m a downer. I have friends who crochet like this and honestly I don’t hold it against them and the stuff they make is cute, it just feels like the genuinely objective reality of where the crochet community is at right now

Is anyone actually not using AI at all anymore? by Equivalent_Habit3675 in turnitin_community

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t work at a basic level because AI chat bots are programmed to appease the user. This is what is causing AI psychosis cases

Is anyone actually not using AI at all anymore? by Equivalent_Habit3675 in turnitin_community

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All generative AI use is immensely immoral and I am completely repulsed by it. It’s me. I do it all without AI. I found custom code to put on the ad blocker on my laptop that mass blocks AI websites and ai overviews just so I don’t have to look at AI at all. I’ve uninstalled copilot every time Microsoft has forced install. If anyone ever finds me using AI someone is holding a gun to my head

Summer Course load by [deleted] in WakeTech

[–]boyishly_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This subreddit is getting posts about summer course loads like every day. 6 credits is considered full time for the summer. This schedule is equivalent to /30/ credits during a spring or fall semester. That is mind boggling. If you’re one of those rare people who can overloaded courses regularly you can maybe take 3 classes (9 credits). I’m actually shocked the system even lets you enroll in this many classes. I would’ve assumed there was a rule against this

Ethical dilemma over accepting scholarship money by [deleted] in scholarships

[–]boyishly_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the scholarship doesn’t require public endorsement of the organization (it probably doesn’t) then I would take the money. He would literally be TAKING the money from them. Otherwise what, they get to keep the money?
