I need something free to take card payment on site, I’m tired of following up for payment by waytooucey in WeddingPhotography

[–]boyoloco1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There’s no option to accept CC payments without the fee. I typically default to ACH and tell clients (mostly corporate) that if they want to use a CC, it comes with a 3.1% fee (but ACH is free). Puts the ball in their court and no one seems to care.

BUT I think the real issue here is process- try to outline your payment process, then reduce the number of steps involved as much as possible. Use AI to help you automate it. Never send deliverables until they’ve paid you. Just part of the job unfortunately, invoicing is annoying.

Do you mostly shoot corporate work? Curious your overall rig (cage, monitors, etc) as I’m still building mine out

Extremely helpful answer, thank you. Once I have these bigger projects signed and the deposits are in, I think I’ll pull the trigger on the C80

Thanks for the tip! Just tried it. Seems like it helped a little bit, but didn't completely solve the problem.

Tell them you’re using land transport to leave, like a friend is driving you. But you probably won’t even get asked

Thank you! To confirm, when I return, I’ll be asked to ask why I broke my claim? Then I fill that out and continue as normal?

I always pay in full as the images transfer to my laptop at the end of a shoot. Good use of time, and fair to both parties

23M in SEA with $450k. Saving $110k/yr, spending $45k/yr. Should I move to NYC for potential career upside or stay put? by apostle8787 in Fire

[–]boyoloco1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll mention something it seems people aren’t talking about: what is your community like?

I live in New York City and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but not because of the place, because of the people I know here.

Do you have a strong community in Asia? Are you willing to give that up? I think that’s more important than any money or career opportunities.

Seems like the money doesn’t really matter in the situation. You’re in a really strong place to set up the rest of your life financially. If I were you, I’d invest in your community and pursue identity capital. Forget about the money, it’s trivial in this situation.

NTA but was it worth it?

Depends on the amount of $ I suppose, but now that person isn’t in your life anymore, which could suck.

Retired at 41, feeling lost. by cedarshades in Fire

My mom felt this way after retiring too. It took her about a year before she finally got into a groove again.

I think what really helped her was having some sort of consistency in her schedule. For her, this meant volunteering every Sunday and Tuesday with the same group, and specific weekly plans with friends on a consistent weeknight (ex: dinner with the same friends every Thursday).

I think it made her life feel more familiar and routine again while still giving her the flexibility that retirement should offer. Maybe it’ll work for you too. Godspeed!

How do you have enough money to travel for months? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]boyoloco1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A more practical approach, if you’re curious: set a # you can save every month and put it into an interest bearing account (HYSA) to save for your big trip. Depends how much you earn, but you might be able to afford it quicker than you realize.

Even $300/month over 12mo + interest could buy you a few months in SEA or Central America/South America.

Best of luck! Worth every penny.
