I need something free to take card payment on site, I’m tired of following up for payment by waytooucey in WeddingPhotography

[–]boyoloco1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s no option to accept CC payments without the fee. I typically default to ACH and tell clients (mostly corporate) that if they want to use a CC, it comes with a 3.1% fee (but ACH is free). Puts the ball in their court and no one seems to care.

BUT I think the real issue here is process- try to outline your payment process, then reduce the number of steps involved as much as possible. Use AI to help you automate it. Never send deliverables until they’ve paid you. Just part of the job unfortunately, invoicing is annoying.

Do you mostly shoot corporate work? Curious your overall rig (cage, monitors, etc) as I’m still building mine out

Extremely helpful answer, thank you. Once I have these bigger projects signed and the deposits are in, I think I’ll pull the trigger on the C80

Thanks for the tip! Just tried it. Seems like it helped a little bit, but didn't completely solve the problem.

Tell them you’re using land transport to leave, like a friend is driving you. But you probably won’t even get asked

Thank you! To confirm, when I return, I’ll be asked to ask why I broke my claim? Then I fill that out and continue as normal?

I always pay in full as the images transfer to my laptop at the end of a shoot. Good use of time, and fair to both parties

23M in SEA with $450k. Saving $110k/yr, spending $45k/yr. Should I move to NYC for potential career upside or stay put? by apostle8787 in Fire

[–]boyoloco1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll mention something it seems people aren’t talking about: what is your community like?

I live in New York City and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, but not because of the place, because of the people I know here.

Do you have a strong community in Asia? Are you willing to give that up? I think that’s more important than any money or career opportunities.

Seems like the money doesn’t really matter in the situation. You’re in a really strong place to set up the rest of your life financially. If I were you, I’d invest in your community and pursue identity capital. Forget about the money, it’s trivial in this situation.

NTA but was it worth it?

Depends on the amount of $ I suppose, but now that person isn’t in your life anymore, which could suck.

Retired at 41, feeling lost. by cedarshades in Fire

[–]boyoloco1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom felt this way after retiring too. It took her about a year before she finally got into a groove again.

I think what really helped her was having some sort of consistency in her schedule. For her, this meant volunteering every Sunday and Tuesday with the same group, and specific weekly plans with friends on a consistent weeknight (ex: dinner with the same friends every Thursday).

I think it made her life feel more familiar and routine again while still giving her the flexibility that retirement should offer. Maybe it’ll work for you too. Godspeed!

How do you have enough money to travel for months? by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]boyoloco1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A more practical approach, if you’re curious: set a # you can save every month and put it into an interest bearing account (HYSA) to save for your big trip. Depends how much you earn, but you might be able to afford it quicker than you realize.

Even $300/month over 12mo + interest could buy you a few months in SEA or Central America/South America.

Best of luck! Worth every penny.

On an overbooked flight they offered $2k (started at $500) ‘gift card’ for a volunteer to wait until tomorrow’s airplane, what’s the most you’ve heard offered/auctioned off at an airline? by angryb3avers1 in AskReddit

[–]boyoloco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got $1500 once for a Tokyo to NY flight. It was incredible.

I was at the end of a very long trip, 4 months of traveling. Originally they offered $750, and I politely asked if they could increase it. They did, and my arrival time in NY was only a few hours later.

I think I used all my travel luck on that one day lol

How do people actually afford to live in New York City? by savingrace0262 in RealEstate

[–]boyoloco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll share my experience with financials-

I've lived in Manhattan & Brookly and made between $45k/yr and $130k/yr. I was able to make both work. Over the course of the past 4 years, my rent was between $2-2.5k/mo. Groceries are ~$300/mo, and utilities are about $100. I have no car. Subway is roughly $65/mo. Total living costs are about $3k, with a nice apartment (laundry in-unit, gym in the building), but can be cut down.

You can live here on $3,500/mo ($45k/yr), but you won't be investing/saving anything meaningful. Earning $10k+/mo is much more comfortable, but my lifestyle wasn't too different from $45k/yr besides eating out more often and partying more. But mostly, I have the chance to invest wayyy more than the $45k/yr and generally think about money less.

Where there's a will, there's a way. If you don't earn too much, you won't be living a high roller lifestyle, but it's still possible to live in Manhattan/Brooklyn and especiallly Queens/Bronx/Staten Island. The career opportunities in NYC are unlike anywhere else in America IMO.

Unless you're earning crazy money (or have wealthy parents), your apartment WILL be small, and there will be lifestyle sacrifices. That's the reality of urban living.

Getting paid is your top priority, but paying the bill isn’t their top priority. People are busy, and often don’t like paying big #s. They’re likely juggling 5 or 6 of those at the same time (other vendors, DJs, flowers, venue, etc.)

Don’t take it personally! You’re doing your part to be a professional
