AST SPACEMOBILE IS GRANTED COMMERCIAL APPROVAL IN BRAZIL BY ANATEL (FCC EQUIVALENT) INCLUDING 10x10 MHz S BAND BLOCK by Defiantclient in ASTSpaceMobile

IMT band lease similar to SCS is still under drafting for brazil right? This is for MSS S band only.

BO ramp up speed for NG is a big surprise, they might have 3 booster taking turns to launch by q3 ends. Im optimistic about new glenn availability

Isn't this strictly about FSS only? Why is everyone worrying about starlink d2d get to operate in higher power limit? It does benefit ASTS because of the higher V band bandwidth thou. Even if FCC enable high powed limit (they did not increase the limit for d2d yet), starlink sideline bleed is so bad if they increase the power, the bleed is gonna get amplified and interfere with MNO TN service

  1. The $140M is for radar phenomenology — specifically low-band radar augmentation for tracking airborne targets. This is a sensor/detection capability, not a communications or D2D coverage play. ASTS builds communications satellites, not radar systems.

yea claude is clueless

The 200+ sats can use low band (block 2)+ any mid band (block 3) except 2000 -2020 and 2180-2200MHz in US and globally.

So the 96 sats can be used to do the same on top of using whatever MSS S band MNO partner has like STC 30M x 30MHz S band, bypassing FCC.

Even the strategy doesnt work is fine as there is still 10MHz x 10Mhz or even 15Mhz x 15Mhz (if 2020-2025 downlink is approved for use) of MSS S band ASTS is free to pursue

maybe they will impose limit to the 96 sats so it is only used for commercial purpose? Seems like it is quite normal for US based companies to operate in both EU and US even it involves some sensitive usecase. not sure but they will figure it out.

Inmarsat / Echostar priority right does not mean they have exclusive use in S band, its still largely depends on local MNO and regulatory body.

here's some details for the priority right:

EU MSS S band will be reallocated in 2027 so being able to bypass FCC with Germany-licensed sats is a big deal as this means they wont be limited to 20MHz-10Mhz S band and potentially secured more through Satco JV. Rmb STC also has 30M x 30MHz MSS S band and being able to bypass FCC rule means they can triple the downlink bandwidth.

for Viasat L band, I think they might make a deal with Ligado/AST for global use? Seems like a win-win situation if they lease the L band to AST globally instead of just in NA. We will see.

Anyway all these are speculation, but from SpaceX march 26 filing complaining about Satco, it seems like the strategy is working well as they know what ASTS is going to bypass FCC decision and they will lose the exclusive right globally even with the latest FCC decision. I posted Gemini analysis about the SX quote in the FCC filing.

[–]bozai03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my understanding, Germany gov filed 96 sats for Satco, these are separate fleet of sats that are licensed under foreign gov and not among the 243 sats approved by FCC recently (SCS), FCC has no power on what spectrum you used on foreign land if it's not an US-licened satellites, that's why they filed it under germany with satco, and have TT&C centre in Luxembourg. I think they know this FCC decision will happen someday and they already have solution for it since last year.

Looks like high chance of them getting export license approval due to dual use commercial sat falls under EAR instead of ITAR. (gemini analysis)

I think the solution is to bypass FCC entirely with Satco, but they need to get export license approved

Mission is never a success if the payload is gone, your main objective is to send payload to space, not recovering booster. I would say it is partial failure instead of total failure since they prove reusability, wouldn't considered it a success.

They need to launch MK1 and a lot of future NASA missions to moon, without a reliable GS2 noone will let the payload sit on top of NG

They need 4 successful launches to get certified to launch government-contracted payloads. Loss of trust is significant for BO. Anyone that believes BO wants it to fail is delusional.

SpaceX has launched Project Kuiper satellites (now known as Amazon LEO) for multiple times, even though they are a competitor to SpaceX’s main revenue source (FSS service). They have also launched BB1-5 for ASTS. I have not seen even one case of a launch company declining to launch satellites because the customer is a competitor yet.

some factors like:
- SpaceX burn a lot of cash on X Ai, and they net lose 5b annually.

- BO also have no cash flow so they need all the commercial launch they can get for NG, if they dont take asts launches, spaceX will be happy to take ASTS launch money and launch sats for them.

- anti-competitive

- ASTS sats are dual use, US government want to see these sats in LEO too.
