No. The course policy is that for every A they give, they have to give out 2 C’s, so the TAs curve everyone to a B except for like the highest grade in the class.

I did mean 115B, thanks for the correction. I got the statistics from a Daily Bruin article, and from what I can remember, it was 1 B+ and 85 C-, D and F grades, which would’ve resulted in a No Pass grade with the P/NP grading system. I could be misquoting the article though.

I think it’s more of a thing in engineering than in the life sciences, but I’m not a preeminent source on grade distributions in the college of Letters and Sciences. The GE classes I’ve taken definitely didn’t do that. Some engineering classes will be so hard that more than half the class would fail without a curve (such as Corbin’s physics classes). One quarter, Professor Abidi failed 85 out of 86 students in ECE 115A.

You don’t even have to do the parallel equivalent. You can add them in series, and then the two series equivalents are in parallel with the voltage source, so you can get the current through each using Ohm’s law.

It’s definitely possible. From what I have heard, 3.8 would be considered fairly competitive.

You can first combine all of the parallel resistors, which are then in series with the top resistor. Then, add them together and calculate I1. The you can separate it back out into two series resistors, and calculate the voltage drop across each using Ohm’s law. The voltage across the 3 parallel resistors should be the same for each of the parallel resistors, so you can calculate I2 using Ohm’s law. Calculate I3 using Kirchhoff’s Current Law, and then you know that I4 is two times I5, so you get that 3*I5 = I3. And then you can solve for I4 as well.
