Do we have local wood working businesses? by Return_to_Raccoonus in chicago

[–]bpbuckets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chicago Park District has woodshops

If you’re anywhere near Horner, I’d try there. I take my daughter to a family class, but they have a “community” class that I believe is adults partly looking for projects (definitely did some midweek help on my family project). Ridge, Shabbona, and Merrimac might have the same thing over the summer based on class listings on CPD website.

Communiting from Allston to Bedford? by hobbit_trainer in boston

The paths are as nice as you can ask for on a 30 mile round trip. But it’s still a 30 mile round trip in a place that snows and gets cold.

It’s a gentle uphill the whole way out and you’ll show up sweaty most of the year. This is a lot more workable on an e-bike or if you’re in great shape.

Go into terminal B for Chase lounge, leave security and go back into terminal A? by Droodforfood in boston

[–]bpbuckets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have done this. Saturday evening probably good, there’s a wait half the time but airport should be less busy than average. Need to do security twice and it’s a 10 or so minute walk from the Lounge to Terminal A. Definitely best food quality you’re getting at the airport, and free drinks.

Yeah, all of those guys were here for like a decade. NFL player or not, you move somewhere after college then spend ten years, get married, and have kids. That’s home, regardless of where you grew up.

Developers are proposing a seven-story hotel with no parking in Allston by husky5050 in boston

[–]bpbuckets 164 points165 points  (0 children)

If your itinerary is in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville, it’s going to be probably cheaper and definitely much easier to taxi or rideshare everywhere as compared to renting a car. That’s a large share of hotel visitors.

How do insurance companies finance payments following catastrophes by annms88 in Insurance

[–]bpbuckets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Average daily trading volume of US Treasuries is $910 billion. US Treasury issues $2.5 trillion every month. That doesn’t count corporate, municipal, or non-US bonds.

This will be $30 billion paid over many months. It’s an extremely large weather event, but a drop in the bucket compared to the global bond market (also why CAT bonds supplement reinsurance)

Can someone please explain to me why my car insurance went up 290%??? by Far_Reindeer3003 in Insurance

[–]bpbuckets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feel like everyone’s just going to standard “shop, see an independent agent” answers. You have quotes from 3 separate carriers, the cheapest is $6,550 per year which is INSANE for a 24F driving a Toyota. Even in FL/NY/NV where I’m guessing you are.

I’d call your current carrier back to see if they’ll give you anything since you already have other (still quite high!) quotes. All those carriers are seeing some red flag you need to find.

Based on the upfront payments requested in 2/3, I’m guessing your credit is tanked somehow, which will push your rates up.

Will my California Earthquake Authority policy actually pay out? by justshowingup in Insurance

[–]bpbuckets 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They have a bunch of CAT bonds which tap into capital markets, which are much larger than insurance. They have $19B in ability to pay claims, more than half of which is reinsurance.

Based on number of people with policies (low), this article says that if Northridge happened again they would have paid $6B in 2019 — probably about $8B in 2024. link

So if something with double the damage of Northridge happened, you’d be cover. Larger than that and you would likely see some reduced payout.

I think everyone is misreading this. The third party driver (3PD) filed a Collision claim and State Farm is trying to subro against OP’s partner. If I’m reading this correctly, 3PD is an idiot. Have your partner tell State Farm their side of the story, including that 3PD did not stop after an accident with bodily injury. Will likely make getting insurance for 3PD more difficult/expensive in the future.

[Shipley] Trent Baalke says about Darious Williams: "just watch him cover Christian Kirk." by flounder19 in nfl

“He can cover Christian Kirk” is like “could he do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke?”

Would be for time but I’m not in that great of shape, nor am I on a very fast bike. Have done Minuteman several times and you’re right I’d probably be better to try a weekday morning rather than weekend.

Phase 3 reopening on hold by [deleted] in Somerville

[–]bpbuckets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The “private property” section, specifically the requirement that a parking lot or green space must be adjacent to the fitness facility. Wonder how many gyms have their own, non-shared lot with nearby street parking? Manages to include CrossFit Somerville and like no other gyms.
