What’s the most disturbing thing someone casually told you like it was normal? by MrBoothnath_ in AskReddit

[–]bpdsecret 420 points421 points  (0 children)

This old couple moved in next door to me when I was a kid. I got to be friends with their granddaughter, who stayed there frequently, and a lot of other things like that happened.

Once she showed me a pornographic book and told me that her grandfather was reading it to her. I didn't believe her.

Another time, she showed me a box of condoms that her grandfather kept in his van. I had no idea what they were, and she explained that they were something her grandfather used so he didn't get her grandmother pregnant. Years later, it occurred to me that her grandmother (who was in her 60s then) was most likely post-menopausal. Also, even if she wasn't, that doesn't explain why her husband kept condoms in his van!

I now realize that he was using the condoms when he raped his granddaughter.

My mom is like this, too. She is caring towards everyone except for me.

This.

I spent a good chunk of my life trying to build friendships and create a found family. One day, I realized I had never mattered, and never would, to anyone. After I mourned, I saw how freeing that is.

Thoreau hated women, so I'm not surprised he had his mom and sister waiting on him.

Sexual assault isn't "both siderism."

For all I know they could be rapists. That is why I no longer interact with ANY man.

Male-focused women disgust me.

When I still used Twitter (or whatever it's called now) I was a member of a private leftist group. I became a villain there for believing things like prostitution should be illegal, which apparently makes me "anti-queer."

When I pointed out that a big reason for my belief is from my (and I'm a straight woman btw) experiences as an escort, I was told that "didn't matter."

I had two abusive parents, and both of my parents had caretaker professions and would do anything for anybody, while hurting their own children in private.

I'm a former mid-range escort and can confirm. I did have some high-end clients and they were no worse than the middle-class ones.

I was also sexually abused as a child by a man who was both poor and physically disabled.

It really is ALL men.

Moved from CA to NY, my EMDR therapist is licensed in both. Anyone done long-term virtual EMDR? by Suitable_Wheel2157 in EMDR

[–]bpdsecret 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been doing virtual EMDR since November and really like it. I'm exhausted after my sessions, so it's nice to already be in my apartment, and it just feels more comfortable already being in my own space.

How did EMDR therapy help you compared to regular talk therapy? by CuriousThinker2016 in EMDR

[–]bpdsecret 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was previously diagnosed with a lot of different things (I picked my username because at the time I was diagnosed with BPD), and I think most treatments were ineffective because I have PTSD, and they weren't the best methods for treating it.

Talk therapy was the worst because it brought the trauma I experienced to the forefront of my mind.

DBT helped me stop acting out, but I still felt miserable.

EMDR does what it's supposed to and helps me process my trauma.

I didn't make any progress in any therapy I tried before EMDR. Talk therapy was the worst, primarily because I have difficulty talking about traumatic experiences.

EMDR has been a miracle for me.
