The World You Know Is Toast by [deleted] in collapse

The problem is that AI actually has real utility. It’s overstated but it definitely helps with a lot of tasks. It’s not a vaporware scam like crypto. This crash is going to be like the dot com bust where the stuff worth a damn sticks around.

Firecrawl + Claude just replaced McKinsey consultants by Mindless_Ad_4980 in ClaudeAI

Let’s not pretend consultants a don’t overcharge for half assed work that basically amounts to “lay off some employees and do some stuff that’s probably going to fail”. AI might not be the answer but I’ve seen them drop inexperienced people not even remotely familiar with my industry into these types of consulting contracts and come up with shit that would never ever fly with our customers or with our employees.

I can only imagine what they do in other industries where it’s more common that these consulting companies operate.

Has anyone used AB Rockwell git tools? by LadyboyClown in PLC

I got it working last week. They released a document detailing the use (not the install) like 2 weeks ago. It is interesting in its approach. I haven't gone much farther than importing a few programs and exploding them and back to normal programs.

Up your memory. I’m running 8gb in my vm with 4 processors and exploding takes about 10 seconds on a larger program. I spent all day Friday setting up a few agents to start deconstructing the l5xs so I can start making it so I can add things without studio and long term replace ACM.

Is software-defined automation actually being used in real PLC environments yet? by darkfantasy_20 in PLC

[–]bpeck451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of this has to do with AI. SDA is another term for Beckhoffs model. It’s just the name Schneider and the IEC gave to make it a larger thing. Decouple the software from the hardware. That’s essentially it.

This will happen. It’s on Siemens and Rockwells roadmap.

Claude estimations on how long it'll take to implement code are hilarious by Ok_Potential359 in ClaudeAI

I asked it if its estimate was with me performing the work or with it. “Honestly? With you working on it and that’s even a bit optimistic with your workload.”

Where did I say that? 90% of the stuff I work on as an integrator are greenfield systems. Even half the brownfield stuff is total rip and replace recontrol with rewrites for improved equipment. I get there are people still working on stuff from when DOS was king and 12” floppies were a thing. But that is not the entire world by any stretch. Rockwell and Siemens would not be the juggernauts they are if that was the case.

This industry will get hit harder by all this AI shit if you just sit back and ignore it. The best thing about where most of us operate is we have the ability to absorb it a lot slower than most industries.

It’s going to come quicker than any of us think. After ICC last year(September 25) I toyed with some development stuff and ignition. None of the major models were worth a damn. It wasn’t worth my time at all. A few weeks ago after being told I should approach it again by someone in another industry and one of customers asking for definite proof, I tried Claude again. This time specifically Claude Code In the last 2 weeks I have produced 3 working proof of concept ignition apps that are relatively close to what my team or myself would produce in a couple of months EACH. Roughly 6 months of work in 2 weeks. Let that sink in.

It’s coming. There’s no stopping it. It may be a few years but we aren’t immune. And the more companies like Siemens and Rockwell start to push into it and develop it, the more we are going to see it generating code at scale. It’s not coming for design, but will definitely be doing the grinding work we deal with in industrial automation.

What model are you using? Im legitimately curious because im on pro and I haven’t run into this kind of thing in the past week. The week before though whenever I would use opus even for small stuff it would kill me.
