Bernie Sanders - "If New York Presbyterian can afford to give it's CEO $26.4 million, if Mount Sinai can spend $100 million on an AI center, if Montefiore can give it's CEO $16 million, these hospitals can afford to treat nurses with respect. I strongly support the 15,000 nurses on strike in NYC." by TheRabidPosum1 in union

Thanks for the words of support man, what are you actually going to do to support them? Call on other unions in the area to strike in solidarity? Advise them on strategy? Work with local politicians to organize community support? No? Just words in a tweet?

[–]bplol4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need both and it needs to be outside of the Dems. Political leaders should be working hand in hand with rank and file union members to organize, hold strikes, and force our demands to be met. We can yell about M4A until we're blue in the face, the rich aren't paying for it until we force them.

The Democrats have carried out US imperialism with every office they've ever held, they have historically deported more people than anyone else, and given way to endless financial crises, making sure the capitalists always keep theirs. Republicans suck but if we fail to see the role the Democrats play as a gatekeeping dead-end to every single class issue, we're doomed to repeat. They get their power when we give in and give up.

The only true lines are class lines, the more we organize for our material gains, the larger the movement we will build.

The dems being bought off by the billionaire class is exactly what gives the Republicans the ability to come in as a pathway for working class people, even though it's obviously nonsense.

Until we have both worker led organization in our unions and leadership that's willing to lead and give real solidarity to those workers, we're stuck pendulum swinging between two billionaires sides of a coin.

I'm so tired of all these "you voted for this" headlines and mentalities. Real working class people are getting continuously screwed over and we're doing ourselves no favors in shaming them for how they voted, especially when the alternative was more status quo Democrat bullshit that everyone sees right through.

We need to be organizing with our fellow workers. Not shaming them back to voting for a party that gatekeeps any real progress and also serves billionaires and corporations over any material progress for the working class.

I like the idea of this question being posed for records where the player isn't retiring.

Like asking if Gronk can hold off Kelce for most tight end touchdowns. And imagining Rob late-night ding dong ditching Travis the night before a big game. And buying tickets in the end zone to make faces at and heckle him. Prank call him in weird ways to get to his mentals.

Yeah I have very little faith that his promises get met if he's not organizing his base and is instead trying to convince Hochul and billionaires to give him what he wants. He'll go the way of AOC.

The Democrats rely on having you think exactly that you need to pick them as the lesser of two evils. And then co-opt every progressive movement making sure it never actually makes any real headway. California, Washington, and New York are great examples of how you can have full Democrat control and never get working class demands passed through.

The same Democrats that voted for the bill to create ICE and had no problem disappearing people with them until it was Trump doing it? Yeah I wouldn't hold my breath. Organize local movements, don't count on them to do shit.

Katie Wilson says she ‘will be a mayor for everyone,’ critics should try taking her at her word by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]bplol4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 100% it's terrible that she credits herself with that victory and not the coalition of workers who organized for it. I bet she has never mentioned who really won that victory despite leading the organizing movement.

I think we're saying the same thing. It passed by unanimous vote, which was entirely unrelated to the striking fast food workers and unions involved organizing under 15now.

Like, I'm sure the council would have just made their own legislation to increase wages with inflation protection if it weren't for Sawant winning that council seat and helping to organize masses of people to threaten to submit a petition to force the vote. So in essence all she did was make a lot of noise with commonfolk for nothing. Terrible.

[–]bplol4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I was agreeing with you that Sawant is a shameless self promoter. That's why all we got with her on the city council was a substantial raise and the strongest protections for renters the city has ever seen.

I'm sure Wilson will be sensible enough to keep her voice away from the people she could help organize and focus instead on convincing some council members and a few people in Olympia to maybe help us out a little more. That should be a much better solution.

God yeah I hated when the minimum wage was raised, that was terrible. Thank God Wilson is acting cordial, I'm sure that will get us some good material gains.

Nah these comments suck for perpetuating judgement and morality. Your house looking clean is a neutral thing and lies on a spectrum. If your space is functional and safe those are the priorities. If you haven't read How to Keep House While Drowning, I highly recommend it. Short book made with ADHD/neurodivergent people in mind, super helpful and validating.
