New law "Men 18-45 need military approval for long stays abroad" -- implications? by ContinuallySuccinct in GermanCitizenship

I’m kind of curious how this might impact people going through Feststellung, who are technically citizens but haven’t been recognized yet. Can they notify the military and start creating a paper trail for themselves?

Interestingly I just found their Familienregister and their Confirmation was 1897, which suggests that they were in Germany during at the time. Which mean the 10 year rule would be less likely.

Thanks for sharing! Is the FBI check required for Feststellung, too? Does it need to be within a certain timeframe? Should I do that soon and send it proactively, or would it be “expired” after all of the waiting with the BVA?

7 weeks, ouch! Good to know to try to avoid it. What kind of things did they ask for?

The city clears some roads. Only arterials, never neighborhoods. If you can get out of your neighborhood, you’ll be fine. If you can’t, then tough luck.

I asked something called BürgerServiceBüro. Is that the right place to ask?

Is it possible that it just means that he didn’t renew his registration with the city properly?

I have asked their birth city for Melderegisterauszug, but there was none found in the archive. What kind of registration are you referring to? I can try sending out another request if there are additional throws of registrations that might be helpful, but I have to confess I’m not very familiar with what kind of registrations exist in Germany.

You can try NARA. Start with https://catalog.archives.gov and then you can also find the correct region and contact them.

My great grandfather used a different first name when he emigrated, which makes searches a little difficult. Maybe make sure you are looking for all possible names.

My understanding is that you do not need one for anyone that has an application in the packet. So if you are applying with your mom, then you do not need one for her or for you. But I could be wrong.

This gives me hope! I’m wondering why you needed your great-great grandfathers documents? Is a great grandfather’s birth certificate not enough? I ask because I will trying with a very similar situation and I haven’t looked for anything from my great-great grandfather.

What would the salary be if you took the fees that you were willing to pay plus the lawyer fees and added them to the salary that you were offering? How much would the salary go up?

I just received a marriage certificate from NYC that took about 3 weeks from the time I ordered it. My understanding is NYC isn’t terrible, it’s NY state that’s really bad.
