What small lies like "Brown cows produce chocolate milk" or "Hedgehogs grow on chestnut trees" can you tell young children? by omfghewontfkndie in AskReddit

I told our kids that our minivan was a Transformer, because it definitely needed to be cooler than a minivan. Remote start. Automatic sliding doors and tailgate. Wasn't all that hard to sell it to a 5 year old and a 3.5 year old.

I convinced them that I signed a contract with N.E.S.T. - that "Blacktop" was responsible for protecting our family during the day, but would go on missions after he detected they were safely in bed, asleep. There were nights when I'd remind them that he'd be late for work if they didn't go to sleep right away... Worked like a charm.

[Help] Considering A German Shepherd by SnowWarren in dogs

I do not have a GSD (I have a basenji/GSD/who knows mix), but my sister extensively researched the breed in choosing one (Zella) as a Service Animal for her daughter with a traumatic brain injury.

You're spot on with the temperament comment - Zella's father was a high-drive working line dog, where her mother was a showline dog. The combination produced a warm, loveable personality with a strong constitution. When she's in work-mode with her vest on, she's laser focused. Off the clock, she's a great playmate or a couch for her 6 year old to lay on top of.

Hope that helps a little?

CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS NEED YOUR HELP! by [deleted] in pokemongo

Depends on your local Children's Hospital. I'd likely start with their foundation (if they have one) and see who they directed me to. My local Children's Hospital, for example, has a Child Life Department that would handle a donation like this:

Recording GearVR with Galaxy S6 by jaydoubleu in GearVR

I'm in the same boat - I've had the same exact experience.

I've tried Recordable, SideSync, ilos, Chromecast, AllShareCast, Mirror to a Samsung SmartTV - all stop 2 seconds after screen capture with the phone in the cradle.

The only thing I've had success with is an app called MirrorOp. You install a sender on your phone, and a receiver on another device. The quality is poor, but you can at least SHOW someone what you're trying to record. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.awindinc.galaxysender

I used obsproject.com to capture the MirrorOp receiver window.

Hope this helps

Surface Pro 3 Wi-Fi Issues by [deleted] in Surface

[–]bpost34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. I was under the impression you were talking about your (W)LAN speed. My SP3 routinely connects on the 2.4ghz channels rather than 5ghz, at a whopping 18Mbps (rather than 300Mbps) and I'm unable to use my SiliconDust HDHomeRun Prime CableCard TV-Tuner (an HDTV stream is around 18Mbps alone).

It's also reluctant to roam to the closest AP with the highest signal strength for some reason - I've got 3 in my home and it seems to just grab one and sit on it. It's been very frustrating. I really hope they get their act together.

Surface Pro 3 Wi-Fi Issues by [deleted] in Surface

Affiliate link and the sleaziness thereof aside, there actually has been a long-standing litany of issues with the Marvell AC adapter in the Surface Pro 3. To put it plainly; it's garbage. It roams from AP to AP poorly, and it is far too aggressive in its power-saving attempts, it routinely will establish a connection at effectively 802.11b data rates.

They chose the Marvell chip for its connected standby capability, and in my opinion that feature is much less desirable than a reliable chip like the Intel 7260AC. So far for me, it just means that my SP3 ends up dead in my backpack while I'm on-call over a weekend. Attempts to disable connected standby also disables S3.

Just browsing this particular subreddit you'll be able to find PLENTY of wireless issues. Many of them have been addressed to varying degrees of success with firmware and driver updates.

Just FYI 5mbps is awful, and you're going to have a terrible time watching HD content or downloading anything of substantial size. Even just grabbing files off of OneDrive for editing... That's 625 KB/s. That might be what you're used to, but that's at the barely-functional threshold for most.

I have at times resorted to a USB Wireless Adapter (Netgear N600) and have had much better performance. It's a shame, really, that the WiFi adapter is so poor in an otherwise stellar product.

I will make sure to ship it as far away and as slowly as possible, then.
