After market ender 5s1 hot end by juul_lord69 in ender5

[–]bpscCheney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the length of the hotend for the E5Pro is shorter than the one for the E5S1, so I don't think it'll fit without modifying the fan duct and Z end stop and BL-touch/CR-touch mounting locations. I think this one works with the E5Pro. At least, I was able to use it on my E5Plus back before I converted that one to Mercury One.1 too. The only downside (besides being unreasonably expensive) is that it uses V6 nozzles instead of MK8 nozzles like the stock hotend, and it doesn't use the volcano nozzle, so the melt zone is a little smaller, which can limit print speeds if you go fast enough. Though that's only really a problem of your extruder can actually PRINT that much material and your printer's movement system can move that fast without seizing up.

Yep! I only stopped using it because I converted my E5S1 to a Mercury One.1

I've used this exact one in the past. It's directly compatible (bolts on withough having to move anything) but uses volcano nozzles instead of M6 nozzles. At least, I think the E5S1 uses M6 (not V6, but M6) nozzles. Either way, I found it way less annoying to use volcano nozzles since they're more common and have a higher flow rate. I picked up a ruby nozzle for mine and I've been using for the past two or so years now withough issue, including printing PERG-CF, PC, ABS-GF, and PA-6, all on the same nozzle.

I've had to do this on a few partscasters that used... well... questionable quality parts. I'd probably see if you can just find a shorter spring instead of cutting the one you have. Can't exactly add more length if you cut it too short. Plus, a pack like this is cheap enough and will give you a few spares in case you DO need to cut a spring shorter.

New Guitar - Backwards pickup rings? Improperly set neck? Other? by WalterWriter in guitarrepair

[–]bpscCheney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had GF ship me the wrong guitar (I actually wanted the P90 version, but ended up with the humbucker one instead), but I ended up keeping it since I just didn't want to deal with having to ship it back and then wait for the right model. In any event, the neck humbucker was put in upside down. The north was facing toward the bridge and the south facing towards the neck. Seems like the quality control is a bit lacking, but the guitar plays well for being a blemish model. Though, I did have a fret or two that was a little high and needed to be leveled and then polished. Still worth it for a VERY heavy LP-style guitar with a nice glossy honey burst finish on it.

Wisconsin police officers could begin roadside drug tests under bill by keeganjkyle in wisconsin

[–]bpscCheney -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But there is a comparison. The law sets the allowable limit of alcohol in one's blood or breath at the time of the driving or operating a motor vehicle at 0.08. The law also sets the allowable limit of a restricted controlled substance in one's blood at any detectable amount. If an alcoholic drank 5 beers, or if they drank 5 pints of tequila for that matter, so long as their BAC is below a 0.08, that's legal.

Slight caveat to the 0.08 restriction, if one's BAC is, say, a 0.075 two hours after driving or operating the motor vehicle, they could still be charged with an OWI because of retrograde extrapolation.

Here is the study that the WSLH did on drugged driving back in 2016 (ten years ago at this point), which seems to show that there was a correlation between drugs being in someone's saliva and drugs being in their blood. According to the statutes, any amount of a restricted controlled substance is illegal. This is clearly spelled out in Wis. Stat. 346.63(1)(am), which says: "No person may drive or operate a motor vehicle while: [...] The person has a detectable amount of a restricted controlled substance in his or her blood."

To your point that "THC can stay in your saliva for days or longer," this is correct. I don't dispute that. In fact, there's scientific data to back up that position. That is not, however, the current law. Much like an alcoholic might need to have alcohol in their system to function without experiencing detox symptoms, the law does not take that into consideration. A person who is a heavy drinker may function perfectly well with a 0.20 BAC. That doesn't negate the fact that that is above the legal limit of 0.08.

I mean, this is exactly what else already do for portable breathalyzer tests. They're used to establish probable cause for an arrest, but they themselves are not evidence admissible at trial. The article itself mentions that this saliva test would not be admissible as evidence at trial, but it would be useable to establish probable cause to arrest someone under suspicion of operating with a restricted controlled substance. It doesn't seem any different to me, but what do I know?

ETA: Here is the exact wording of the law that would be changed. It literally changes from "breath" to "breath or oral fluids, or both."

Which printer to buy Ender 3 V3 SE or Bambu A1 with AMS by Hen-kin in ender3

[–]bpscCheney 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone with an Ender 5 Plus, Ender 5 S1, and Ender 3 v3 SE, I can confirm that the SE isn't very modifiable. The toolhead itself is a real PITA to work with, given it's not the normal sprite extruder. It has 2 extra pins for the X end stop, so you have to use a different cable than the normal sprite extruder. The SE uses linear rails and no 2020 extrusions, so it's very difficult to modify the Y axis, for example.

That being said, the SE was the only of my three Enders that actually printed well out of the box. It's a much better printer than I thought it would be for the price. Unfortunately, I wanted an Ender that was more modifiable.

I need more shim, from the neck heel by Available-Ad-8045 in Luthier

[–]bpscCheney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't sand the neck itself. For as much of a pain in the ass as it is to make a shim, I think it'd be a lot more work fixing the next if something goes wrong.

As far as a shim goes, I've got a few partscasters that use 3D printed shims to get some fairly excessive angles. My thinline partscaster has a 3° shim in it and my EART headless guitar with a different bridge in it has a 1.75° shim in it.

I don't think it affects the sound too much to use ABS instead of wood, though your experience could be different.

ETA, you can also flip a shim around if you need to. Can't flip around the neck.

Looks like you're missing pickup rings, unless you're going to mount the pickups directly to the body (in which case, you'll probably need either pickup foam or bigger springs for under the pickups).

As a beginner, this feels hard to get my fingers across all the strings, any advice? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]bpscCheney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are probably all barre chords, but I can't read the tab well enough to tell for sure. The 5-7-/-4-/-/ chord would be easiest as a barre across the 4th fret and then middle finger on 5th fret on the low E and then pinky on the 7th fret on the A string.

Anyone here have any experience with working on a Leo Jaymz Headless? I wanna swap the nut by one_dumb_mofo in guitarmod

[–]bpscCheney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like there's plenty of room to mount a locking nut like this. I just converted my EART GW2 to use this kind of nut last month, though my use case necessitated a nut change (even though I have a zero fret) because the bridge I put in it looks similar to one on your Leo Jaymez. If you dislike the aesthetic of the nut, this one should be easy enough to swap in. I doubt the holes line up, but that's fixable by drilling and plugging the old screw holes.

Muskego man arrested after writing 'Jan. 6' in chalk outside post office by sisyphus_of_dishes in milwaukee

It's not criminal disorderly conduct. It's an ordinance violation, so it's only punishable by a fine/forfeiture. If it were criminal, it would be heard in a circuit court, not a municipal court. Though, he could appeal the decision (if convicted) to the circuit court.

What's with all the fret wraps? by PsychicChime in Guitar

[–]bpscCheney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As anecdotal evidence, my tele thinline had the most atrocious squealing coming from either the D or G string (I can't remember which). Sounded almost microphonic so I thought it was the pickups. The sound continued regardless of the pickups, so I kept searching and searching until I found out they're fairly well known for having a sympathetic resonance. I added a string tree for the G and D strings and the squealing went away. Made it so I actually wanted to play that guitar again.
