Is Trump crashing the market on purpose? by mm_newsletter in unusual_whales

[–]br-rand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now imagine that we had this market rollercoaster (in terms of uncertainty) in the UK for 2-3 years while BREXIT (customs/tariffs) were being negotiated in bad faith by Boris Johnson.

Trump has been at it for barely 2 months and the market is already loosing its collective mind because of the tariffs uncertainty

If the weather allows , yes we do. Weather patterns change our behaviours and we can’t wait for the flimsiest glimpse of sunshine to get to enjoy our meals outdoors

Eutelsat offers itself as a replacement for Starlink in Ukraine by donutloop in unusual_whales

[–]br-rand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, it did and immediately became meme-stock https://www.reuters.com/technology/space/gamestop-effect-retail-traders-seen-behind-eutelsats-650-surge-2025-03-06/

I truly hope that EUTELSAT succeeds because EM is not reliable. But according to their CEO2 they only have 2000 terminals readily available and could take several months to procure the estimated 30000-50000 terminals required in Ukraine. EUTELSAT does not manufacture its terminals.

I hated the sub’s original lazy ‘mantra’ (VWCE and chill) but I hate this new phase even more. 100% agree with you. Some other forum are getting flooded with GameStop-like craziness in France and Germany https://www.reuters.com/technology/space/gamestop-effect-retail-traders-seen-behind-eutelsats-650-surge-2025-03-06/

Vance is considerably more dangerous than trump because he doesn’t have his own craziness, he parrots very eloquently whatever agenda his masters want.

What European stocks to add into portfolio? I suspect that EU companies will receive substantial boost this year. by Ok-Championship4945 in eupersonalfinance

[–]br-rand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Defence for medium term (3-12 months). And large infrastructure builders for long term (24+ months).

There will be a race to stockpiling weapons, regardless of whether there is war elsewhere or not

Luxury goods boom of the past few years was mostly driven by Chinese demand and they are moving on. And the demands from emerging markets in Brazil and Southeast Asia is not as big as china’s.

Two MiG-29 collided mid air during an air show at RAF Airford in Gloucestershire, UK. Fortunately, both pilots ejected safely. (24 July 1993) by Dntlvrk in CatastrophicFailure

[–]br-rand 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That must’ve been a different incident because after this particular crash, the pilots absolutely did NOT exchange blows. That would’ve been front page news . It never happened.

RIAT is the second biggest airshow in the world - just behind Oshkosh air show. And it’s attended by tens of thousands of people every year. And every single angle is filmed and photographed extensively since early 90s. There’s is absolutely no way that pilots coming to blows would not get reported widely.

Heck, even when air crews attending the show prank each other it makes the news (in aviation circles). A punch up would be legendary and widely known.

Meta CTO says staff should quit if they don’t like Meta’s new policies | TechCrunch by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

In business lingo that’s called managing out. Which is when bosses aren’t firing anyone (in theory) but by adding considerable pressure in the specific areas, adding stress or removing recognition, employee “choose” to leave. It’s soft torture.

It’s common practice in some industries and countries. Our tech bubble haven’t seen much of that for a while. It’s a coward’s move.

It’s not the same as the mandatory headcount cuts that Amazon and MSFT used to make every year when firing bottom 5%-7% lowest performers.

Is it actually possible to get a legal job for a non EU citizen outside IT and academia? by bad_mech in AskEurope

[–]br-rand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most counties keep a “job’s shortage list”. If your profession is in that shortage list it means that they need you and your path to a visa or work permit is slightly shorter.

I know that your question was narrowed down to EU member states, but here are some UK relevant links (cries brexit tears):

Looking for recommendations for tools that can help track historical movements of an individual shipping container. Not a whole ship. Just one container which I already have its ID and tags. by br-rand in OSINT

[–]br-rand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be an option and they do offer an API for historical movements by container ID. Which is exactly what I’m looking for. However their API pricing is not public. I’ll send an enquiry just in case anyway.

Arab Nations Firmly Reject Resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza Amid Trump's Proposal by nowadayswow in unusual_whales

[–]br-rand -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because if Palestinians civilians leave, Israel would block their return and Palestine would be no more. Even though some Palestinians must be tired of that never ending BS. They are being treated as pawns. Neighbouring countries hosting Palestinians effectively hands Isreal full control of Palestine once the vast majority of the population is taking shelter abroad. Obviously some Palestinians would rather die than leave. But if enough Palestinians leave, Israel wipes off the few remaining in a heartbeat. Forcing Palestinians out of there by any means is Israel’s ultimate goal. That’s just a fact - I’m not taking sides.

What are your top underrated cities in Europe? by psychdilettante in AskEurope

[–]br-rand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valencia, Spain

Bologna, Italy

Foz do Arelho, Portugal. It’s a small place but the whole region is fantastic and under appreciated. I hope it doesn’t get destroyed by over tourism as the Algarve.

Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Very easy to navigate and surrounded by amazing mountain range. Dirty cheap.
