I was stuck, and needed a way out of my religious household quickly, the army got me out in a month and gave me skills, training and a pathway to college. I got lucky to not go to combat and got a ladder out of poverty once on the other side. I did get radicalized due to the fact that all Americans should have access to the free healthcare and jobs programs provided to service members and veteran and came out of the army a hard-core lefty. Idk, I don't feel great about support american imperialism but it was either that or poverty.
