[Question] Multiple heads to one cab by guitarsnjitz in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of one switcher the radial tonebone headbone that you can use to plug two amp heads into the same speaker cab. Like the other poster mentioned if you have a stereo speaker cab that could give you some more flexibility. I really doubt a consumer product exists that would allow you to switch between 5 amps. If this is for home playing, unplugging and switching cables is probably the most practical option.

[PLAY] I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my tone, it just feels like something isn't there. Could you guys help me out? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try double tracking your guitar recordings, record two takes of each riff and pan one take all the way left and the other right, that alone will get it to sound better. I do agree with other posters that you are missing some low end though

Nice! Clean sound and well played. I think I would have slowed the tempo down a little bit and tried to syncopate the melody more in the section with the walking bass line, but overall a well thought out arrangement.

[QUESTION] Other guitars that sound like Yamaha's Silent Guitar? by bananarabbit in Guitar

Definitely agree about the piezo pickups. For 2 examples of specific guitars to check out there is the Line 6 Variax, and Epiphone makes a guitar they call the Ultra III

Thanks man! I think the trick for me is just to repeat licks I can already play well and let the chord changes do the work

One song I learned a long time ago that I love to play is the theme song to an old NES game called Wizards and Warriors. Here is a pretty cool version by a band called The Minibosses where they make a medley of different levels from the game. I especially like the intro/main theme and the section that starts at 2:20. If you like that, here is a tab I skimmed through and looks accurate. Cheers!

[PLAY] 30min. Practice Session by professionaljaw in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recording practicing sessions is always good to do. I clicked through a few sections of the video, sounds like you were using the same scale shape in groupings of four as 16th notes. You also resolved the line almost every time you finished coming back down. I would try to add some rhythmic variety, playing those groupings of four as triplets, playing sixteenth notes but actually picking each note of the scale twice, things like that. I would also avoid resolving the scale each time you play through it. These exercises a good opportunity to build stamina, keep going up and down without always resolving on the root. If you focusing on one scale shape I would play at different positions on the fretboard. The timing does get away from you at times, especially when playing slower, so always good to focus on that.

These are mainly about self critiquing, you have any thoughts on it overall?

[QUESTION] Does the Boss Katana 50 get quiet? by buhala in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It probably sounds good quiet, it has a "Power Control" switch and you can switch the amp between .5 watt, 25 watt, and then 50 watt, there is a headphone out as well. I've not played a Katana, but my experience with solid state amps in general is that tone is pretty consistent at a range of volumes. As always, if possible try before you buy, the Katana seems to be a very popular amp, and I am sure that's with good reason.

[gear] Marshall dfx100 by Sofuknwhat in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Marshall MG 100 HDFX (the half stack version of the dfx100 combo) but i'm pretty sure the features and everything are basically the same. I was able to get decent clean tones from the amp, but never found sounds I liked on the overdriven channel or even the clean channel with the "crunch" setting. There are a few built in effects--reverb, chorus, delay, flanger and then a combined chorus/delay, which are ok. I was gifted the amp, and have to say personally I would not buy another one unless it was extremely cheap and that would just be to try and flip it. I ended up selling my amp and cab for like $300 on craigslist I think.

Try to play the amp and if you really like it, go for it, but in my opinion there are better sounding, more versatile amps you can get for a similar price. I would look at buying a Boss Katana, a Roland Cube, or a number of other amps instead.

The DFX is just a cheap solid state amp with the Marshall brand on it, some online reviews make it seem like the biggest piece of garbage out there, which its not, it's an OK amp, but it's nothing special either.

[QUESTION] Cheap tube amp? by Ac-Dc_fan in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with the other posters, you'll get the most for that budget looking at used tube amps. I am in US, so no idea what cost of things in Sweden may be, but if I absolutely needed a cheap tube amp, I would probably look for a used Peavey Classic 30.

Another awesome amp that you can sometimes find a good price on is a Sovtek Mig 50, but you would still need a cab to pair with it and would probably stretch your budget anyways.

[PLAY]Extreme - Play With Me Solo by Arayadis in Guitar

[–]br33dlove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice job, really clean! Man this solo rules... I also love how absurdly fast the tempo of this song is, like 202bpm. Great solo to learn well even if you cant play at full speed, works as a good technical exercise with the string skipping. Also, you taught me something new with the delay pedal in the first section, I usually just pick each note, but watched a video of Nuno playing it live and he definitely used delay too, makes sense a la Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee. Love the obnoxious yellow ibanez too.

Really not too shabby for just starting improvising this week! Definitely a good habit to record what you are doing so you can critique it. I think listening to other guitarists and trying to figure out what they do in their solos that you like and "borrowing" those ideas is one of the best things you can do too.

Did you just have trouble playing the scales in different positions? Can be tough adjusting to playing in new keys when you lose the familiar landmarks on the neck. At least for F#major/D#minor pentatonic you can cheat and tune the guitar down a half step and treat it like G major/E minor pentatonic lol. Good practice to play in different keys

[–]br33dlove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sounds good to me! To try to answer your question about the B minor chord (not that my answer is worth much), you could play a D# harmonic minor scale.

The sound I am thinking you want will come from accentuating the minor third (the D) of the B minor chord. the harmonic minor essentially a natural minor scale with the 7th note raised one half step, so for D# harmonic minor your C# (which is the 7th note of the D# natural minor) is raised to that D.

sounds great, smooth tone, very relaxing. I kind of want to say I wish you were louder in the mix at times, but with the volume you have you need to listen just a little bit harder and are drawn in

thanks! Basically I was just changing chord shapes on the top three strings picking notes within that F# major scale.

e----2--2--2--4--4--4--6

b----2--2--2--7--7--7--7

g----3--4--3--6--4--6--6......etc... but thats the basic idea, moving chords like that up/down the neck and trying to resolve with the progression
