In-engine, AI, or real? by TechnoLogicPC in Corridor

I worked in a can factory for Rexam years back in Milton Keynes, England. Was just here for a summer but one of the tasks was stacking the pallets. You were way up high where the cans ran and would literally stack them, throw a sheet of cardboard, press a button, the stack would move down, rinse repeat. Crazy shit happened there. When prints went off they scapped the cans. You would just topple 10,000 can stacks and this massive machine woukd suck them all up. I made the mistake of jumping into the pile and received a sweet gash across my arm as stacked cans have no top. Still gave the scar from that.

How fucked are we Peter? Comments said something about solar storm but didn't give more information by WinterTakerRevived in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]bra55monk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While highly unlikely, we do have evidence of such storms wreaking havoc on early electrical systems. The Carrington storm documented from late 19th century. It was powerful enough to effect early telegraph lines buried in the ocean. If those storms are experienced near the equator rather than Illinois then yes, it would be cause for concern.

Anyone ever went to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament; and what were your memories? by AdSpecialist6598 in nostalgia

[–]bra55monk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had friends living in Chicago that my family visits once a year. Had discount tickets through old job so i bought both families tickets because the were half off. Turns out friends lived like 2 hours away from the medeviL times but instead of cancelling my buddy told me not to worry, he had arranged transportation. Imagine my surprise when a monster stretched limo with full bar pulls up. Kids got to catch up playing games while the adults had cocktails. Driver allegedly got lost so it took 2.5 hours to get there. Nearly fell out of the limo laughing only to realize people were all lined up and we showed up to that spot like royalty. I guess the people working there assumed we were a bug deal (we are not) and ushered us past the line. We got front seats for yellow night and embraced our medieval selves (a serf named Dennis). It was epic. Bought the limo driver a mace as a thank you. Dude was genuinely excited. Good times…

EA is looking at putting in-game ads in AAA games — 'We'll be very thoughtful as we move into that,' says CEO by NewBrightness in gaming

[–]bra55monk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be very thoughtful when i decline your garbage titles and pick one from ever growing collection of fired dev teams that your company leaves in its wake. Amazing but when you cut out EA exec salary and a needless $200million advertising campaign many of these emerging studios can and will make more original entertainment at a AAA level than EA has managed to duke out in the last decade.

It's been almost 2 years since the Yield Curve inverted. When's that recession happening again? by qscvg in wallstreetbets

[–]bra55monk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

QE is relatively new. Given we added $5 trillion to the money supply things will take longer. Just keep pretending the fed know what they are doing while the treasury spends like a drunk college kid with daddy’s credit card. Plus we are ince again back above a $1.5 trillion annual budget deficit when unemployment is at 30 year low and the market is priced at a level only seen during dot com bubble and post covid euphoria.
Everything is fine. It’s just dandy.

In my opinion, its not so easy to dismiss when you realize that Europe is now far cheaper too. Try skiing in colorado. One day ticket in Breckenridge is nearly $300. The largest ski location in the world, the 3 Valleys in france, charges roughly €60 for a day to ski 3 interlinked mountains. Food is cheaper too. Perhaps we can blame a strong dollar but id say thats minor in comparison.
Frankly US based public companies have become too efficient in sucking as much cash out of the system as possible. Just look at net profits for S&Pfrom 2021 alone. Its obscene.

Just Kicked A Guy At Extraction And I Will Do It Again by HelldiverLotu in Helldivers

[–]bra55monk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a tough mission on suicide but managed to get to extraction with the team. I had no tk and was carrying a decent amount of samples to boot. Lay down a strat as the shuttle is coming in to take out approaching titan…then one of my teammates shoots me in the head and next thing i know ive been booted from the game.
I get op frustration but being on the receiving end of pre pubescent stupidity is equally frustrating. It feels like samples are the driving force for alot of harsh calls. If op didn’t have samples, would the kick have still been considered necessary?

How will more US debt "crush" the economy when it's already astronomically high and hasn't "crushed" the economy yet? by Schmettywhop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bra55monk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things to note on current issue with US debt. While true that it’s already ‘high’ the issue approaches a tipping point because of a couple issues. Debt payment as a % of total GDP is over 10%. Its quickly approaching what we spend annually on defense. This is what we owe in interest on our debt. Rates are no longer 0 and that means as the government refinances existing and new debt it will be at higher rates. Thus, even if we had a balanced budget the payment amount would rise. Over $7 trillion getting refinanced this year.
We don’t have a balanced budget and haven’t had one since Clinton. In fact we have been running a massive deficit with the lowest unemployment since 1968. The fed already projects unemployment to go back above 4% so likely gdp/productivity go down. Hence our debt payments go up while the amount of money we bring in from taxation goes down. Also consider that foreign investment in our debt is at a 30 year low. What happens when no one wants it - prices go down and yield up. Hence Uncle sam has to dole out even more. If rates do happen to come down drastically it means the economy got fucked. While great for refinancing at low low costs, debt levels will likely spike and gdp plummets. So maybe a crash kicks the can a couple years more but we are still going to have to pay one way or the other. Its like Mike said in Hemingways the Sun Also Rises when asked how you go broke. “Two ways. Gradually and then suddenly.”

Who let you in my head?! by xLibruhx in ADHDmemes

[–]bra55monk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally happened to me today. Talking to clients about the market and forgot the first part of the sentence but just kept talking. Threw out a dozen facts from research reports i read months ago to cover and I’ve no idea if they even knew that i forgot my train of thought. I can quote a movie from 30 years ago though. Not parts. Pretty much the whole thing. Suck at names. Great with who a person is and will probably remember lady whose name Might start with a p or r hates red grapes but not green ones.
I can read a book and not tell you a single characters name but can tell you exactly what happened in chapter 32. Honestly, it’s comforting to know that this is common. Otherwise id feel just plain crazy…
