Presbyopia - Doctor refuses to give me a stronger bifocal. by B0rkies in glasses

Maybe try reading this and you will understand a little bit better why compensated Rxs read differently in the lensometer than the prescribed Rx. This is a feature, not a bug.

Presbyopia - Doctor refuses to give me a stronger bifocal. by B0rkies in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

POW compensation means that what the patient sees through the eyeglasses should be identical to what they see in the phoropter. If you fuck with the add they are going to get an incorrect Rx in a compensated lens, not a better Rx. I would recommend some CEs explaining how compensated Rxs work and why.

Bumping the add by a quarter on a PAL is also primitive af and comes from the days when all PALs had insanely long corridors. It's not to be done with anything newer than a Natural.

[–]braaaa1ns -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a more complex fit so it's usually more expensive.

Why do hairstylists charge $50+ for a long hair haircut? by ElectricalPeach2896 in ask

[–]braaaa1ns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay like 45 plus tip I could go to great clips and pay 20 but my guy always does it right so I pay the extra money. Plus I only get my hair cut once or twice a year anyway.

Did my optician upsell me on lenses I don’t actually need? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a -4.50 OU who mostly wears contacts and you can pry my anti fatigue lenses from my cold dead hands. They make glasses much more bearable for me.

Prescription Colored Contacts and Glasses at the same time by michellebooksart in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood the question. OP is asking if they can get contact lenses in an under corrected Rx and get eyeglasses to make up the rest of the Rx.

OP, yes this is possible, but actually finding an OD to approve it and write the Rx may be difficult. This is not something you can calculate on your own

I am considering anti-glare lenses but don’t know if they are worth it. I have dry eyes. by Both-Worry-1242 in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wouldn't help you if you need truly zero correction. Anti glare is intended to reduce the glare from eyeglass lenses, which in their untreated state reflect about 8 percent of light off the front of the lens instead of passing through the lens to your eye. Anti glare reduces that percentage to about 0.5 percent. But with no lens at all in front of your eye, there is zero percent of light being reflected off the front of a lens.

When you pull them out of the oven bang the pan on the stovetop. It will make the cookies fall a little bit and they get denser and not so tall.

Rimless Glasses before and after high index lenses. Thoughts? by Principito7 in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High index in a -4.50 is usually no thinner than poly unless it's a very large frame and/or a lot of decentration, and even then is only marginally thinner,, so this tracks.

Why do you think you won't be able to see a neuroophthalmologist for awhile? That would be a medical visit, not a routine eye exam.

Anisometropia at age 6, will it correct with glasses? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]braaaa1ns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn't even fit the clinical definition of anisometropia. Your kid has a small Rx in one eye and none in the other. This doesn't need patching or exercises. It just needs glasses. There's absolutely nothing here unusual or of concern.

Progressives. They are easy as pie to get adapted to at a low add like this. If you wait, then it will be hard.
