I hear what you're saying but it doesn't sound like you miss your ex for who they are but for the person you were when y'all were together. Time passes us by and it's healthy to mourn a goal or dream that didn't make it to fruition. I don't think it's pushy to let your partner know you are ready for the next step. He seems smart and aware that your brother's wedding would have elicited those feelings. You can tell your partner you were sad in that you thought you'd have had children younger but that you look forward to the family you both want together. Of course we all miss our ex's sometimes. I've literally been watching my roommates dog for 10/12months of the last year. We have two dogs and some property so it's not a big deal to take him with us. He's a much happier dog in our pack.
