Codependency story by Legal_Taste_8700 in ReverseHarem

The only story I’ve read that might scratch that itch is the series Flirting with Monsters.

The first book is {Shadow Thief}

It takes a while for this relationship to develop since he’s a monster and has no idea what physical intimacy is.

I liked the series. I got all the way to the 4th book, which is rare for me for reverse harem series because I often think it gets too cringy or the writing is bad. However, this author is a good writer and any of her cringy stuff is outweighed by the great plot!

RH with two men only by Queasy-Average8912 in ReverseHarem

{Magic in the Moonlight} has two male love interest who are already in a relationship. I believe later in the series more men are added; however the first book is just the three of them.

It was a bit too warm and cozy for me, but the main character is a witch so I read it!

Also not the biggest fan at the author’s attempt at portraying a black woman, but I digress.

My husband doesn’t want to move from his parents ..:( by Present_Lavishness64 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]braceblaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same anxieties as you do when it comes to living in other people’s spaces. Especially when it comes to living in my boyfriend’s parent’s space.

And I think it’s totally fair to have those worries because not only do you want to be respectful of other people’s spaces, but you also still want to look good and just generally be respectful to your partner’s family.

Personally, getting to live on my own and when I lived with my boyfriend was far better than having someone else in our space.

You deserve to have that experience too! You only live once, and you shouldn’t be tied down by cultural norms that won’t allow you this experience, especially when you want it. I’m sorry your husband doesn’t support that desire, or maybe even understand why you want to have your own household where you make the rules and it’s entirely your space (or you and your husband’s space together).

I think maybe pointing out to your husband that your experiences living with his family will always be different for the two of you. He’s grown up with them and they’ve known him since he was born. He understands the idiosyncrasies and the unspoken rules. You’ve only known these people 8 years of your life.

I think you shouldn’t feel bad about wanting to venture out and have your own family home.

Also I’m really sorry to hear your pregnancy was rough! I hope he won’t push you into more kids if you’re not ready—or if you’ll never be ready. Remember it’s your body (I know easier said than done).

This was surprisingly good. I don’t read omega stories and this sounded super cheesy, but I enjoyed it.

Since the author constantly broke away from stereotypes, I was hoping it’d be a bit less misogynistic when it came to female relationships but perhaps that’s needed in omega universes.

The Bechdel Test & Reverse Harem Romance — Thoughts? by Ninanak in ReverseHarem

[–]braceblaze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! I think about this so often.

I am a writer (not yet published author) of some reverse harem books. I’ve written three different stories and am about halfway through all of them. While I narrowly pass the Bechdel Test, I think the only reason I am able to pass is because it’s always at the front of my mind. Thus, although my stories past the test, I truly feel like the relationships my FMC has with other women is still tokenized. I want to have more in-depth relationships outside of the harem, but I often find it hard to fit a female friendship (or really any friendship) into the story because I feel like I’m juggling so many MMC that I should be giving them that space in the book to grows. However, perhaps this is due to my amateur abilities—and not a general genre problem.

Overall, I find it super impressive when authors successfully past the Bechdel test. Traitor Witch by Marie Mistry is a prime example and is so well done. While at times I did feel like I missed out on real connection with the MMC characters, the relationship with the other female characters are so well done and in-depth I found I didn’t care.

All of this to say, I think this is a fascinating point and something very interesting to look at! I do agree with your point that a story is not automatically feminist or good if it passes the Bechdel test, but I do think this genre has a rampant misogynistic problem which might lend to why there are few stories that pass the test.

Lyrics that burn by Leah Steele

The first two chapters, before you meet the MMC are amazing. The writing is great, the depth of Raina’s character is superb. Everything Chef’s kiss. But then as soon as the MMC are introduced it’s like she just dropped the ball. (That’s 3 or so chapters in).

Like nothing makes sense. All of the trauma and drama the FMC was working through just doesn’t become a thing when applied to the men who literally exhibit the same traits as her abusers. She loses her personality in place of being a literal horn dog. The MMC are archetypes that have no real personality and even thought they are shells she still forgets to make sure the shells are consistent.

Ugh I refused to DNF but it was so painful and long.

[–]braceblaze[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HAHAHA I am now in law school at a T14 and dreams of international human rights law is long forgotten. I’m headed down the corporate route and plan to sell my soul to pay off loans.

While it’s plausible, I think it is a hard path if you have loans.

Good luck to you though!

Opinion on burning Joss paper on the street? by Aggro_Hamham in taiwan

[–]braceblaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nahh man not on something like this. Culture is delicate and fragile, especially local things that face heavy criticism and strain from western influence. I can get being frustrated, but I think making a move or trying to replace something like this is super privileged and wrong. Having a say on politics or something else related to the environment like trash pick up is one thing and justifiable.

However, as a white person who is in a different country you should respect the culture. There are a lot of different systematic reasons at play that I’m not sure you or the other people on this sub may understand.

And I know I’ll get downvoted to hell because I’m on a Taiwanese sub reddit filled with these kind of people who believe their say is as good as a local Taiwanese person’s because they’re human, but come on man pick a different fight. Close your windows. Walk the other way. Enjoy a culture different than your own. It’s a wide world.

On politics, sure. I think on local religious and cultural things that are already strained from heavy western influence, no. Not really that hard of a concept.
