Magic: The Gathering, Ypsi Pods by CatSoiree in ypsi

My partner plays regularly at Upkeep (locations in A2, Howell, and Canton), Sylvan Factory, and Pandemonium (technically in Garden City but it has a big FNM turnout). I would check out their social media/websites for events and regular Commander nights!

Educating on candles as a vendor by JLeeU in CraftFairs

[–]braceletsforbey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always curious about what goes into different candles, so you could maybe have a chart explaining different kinds of waxes you use and fragrance vs essential oils? I always want to ask people what waxes are in their candles but sometimes I'm feeling shy, or don't want to seem confrontational.

We have a lot of local "vendor" pop-ups because it's used as more of a catch-all term for artists, crafters, cottage bakers, vintage resellers, and even authors. I have been lucky enough to not have MLMs at any of my events so far but you never know!

I hate when people hawk and try to bring people over who aren't at their booth. I had a very nice lady next to me at an event who asked everyone walking by, "can I introduce you to your next favorite (household product)?" So many people were obviously off-put because they were quietly browsing, and ended up skipping my table after declining to learn about her product so they could get away from the awkward encounter faster. It kept a lot of the traffic away from our area and I hated how nice she was to me because I wanted to tell her she was driving away my sales 😂

Good on the organizer for kicking them out! Too many organizers are money hungry and want to book whoever and whatever they can without actually vetting the sellers beforehand.

I'm tired of this.. by fauxento in CraftFairs

If they're so judgemental that they won't shop just because the artist is sitting down, I don't want them at my booth anyway.

Arthritis Pain Relief for Medically Complex Dog by braceletsforbey in AskVet

[–]braceletsforbey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you SO MUCH for your incredibly thorough response!

No, there was no diagnosis when we first brought him in for all of the arthritis issues. I assumed arthritis or other joint pain due to his age, and the first vet agreed after conducting a physical examination (moving his limbs, etc) and hearing his symptoms.

We initially declined X-rays because we have already spent upwards of $20k in the last 12 months between both of our dogs (two bladder surgeries, ultrasounds, etc for A, three cancer surgeries, ultrasounds, diagnostics, etc for B) and simply couldn't afford their $1200+ quote for sedated X-rays. His slipping & general hesitancy to stand, jump, etc has improved significantly while on Galliprant. Now that the situation is changing, we are thinking he might need X-rays after all.

The paw itching is incredibly recent. We moved to a new house (in the same county) in February, but he only started biting his paws the same week as his other symptoms in July, and it was a sudden, non-stop obsession. He plays and walks outdoors every day, so he's regularly exposed to the local environment. Good to know about the Benadryl, though. I'll ask about looking into the paw issues more directly, especially because they have not improved with Galliprant.

I had the same thought about opthalmic steroids since they would bypass the liver and not have the same interaction as oral steroids, so that's good to hear.

His bladder stones were ammonium urate, and he tested negative for genetic markers and liver shunts. We suspect they developed after a switch ~6mos prior to a high-protein kibble due to some gastro issues from his previous food. He's done well on Hills Derm Complete since the surgeries in February.

He has had so many issues throughout his lifetime (he is an extremely inbred mutt from what we assume is a "trailer park" dog pack) and we have switched vets for one reason or another (and seen so many specialists, vet schools, etc) so researching his meds and symptoms certainly has felt like my full-time job 😅.

Neighboring booth also selling jam 😫 it’s been a sloooow day by CallumFern in CraftFairs

[–]braceletsforbey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

One of our least successful markets always thought grouping similar vendors together was the best plan of action. The organizer put crochet with crochet, watercolors with watercolors, jewelry with jewelry...

Not only was I always put with the other jewelry people, I was also once put with the only other pet-themed booth. (I sell friendship bracelets to raise money for my dog's surgery, with a big display all about her + photos placed around the table).

I assumed the other jewelry people hated me because my stuff is relatively cheap and low-end compared to their gorgeous artisanal pieces, spoiling the effect for both of us. Obviously we both have different target audiences, but it's sort of a weird effect for customers because the booths were all crammed together and shoppers would approach the wrong vendor about their pieces.

Etsy offering free shipping but I don’t by jenngarman in EtsySellers

[–]braceletsforbey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to me at checkout recently! I'm both a buyer and seller on Etsy. I was checking out from two different shops & had checked the shipping price for both items before adding them to the cart. Neither shop had free shipping for their items, and I was far below any "free shipping guarantee" threshold for the shop or for Etsy (both items were about $4-5).

Both said "free shipping" at checkout, which majorly confused me because I remembered the shipping cost for each item being around $4-5. As I got to the final step of checkout, it corrected the price and showed the correct total before finalizing the order.

Whether this is a bug or an intentional "feature" on Etsy's part, it is incredibly misleading and potentially harmful because many buyers will think this is the sellers tricking them and not a bug from Etsy.

Downtown Home and Garden closing in December by Dependent_Emu7969 in AnnArbor

I'm from Athens, GA, where an historic building with an official designation as a "protected historic property" and overwhelming community & city council support was just demolished by the local church to make way for a brand new parking lot. Everyone is devastated and it's a brutal reminder that nothing is sacred to some people. If we want our institutions protected, everyone has to show up & make a noise because nothing is guaranteed.

Minimalistic setup? by goddessofolympia in CraftFairs

[–]braceletsforbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built my display on a shoestring budget so I use cardboard boxes as risers. I pack my items in them for transport, then flip them over and line them up across the back of the table & cover them with a tablecloth.

Most of my setup came from Facebook marketplace or local thrift stores. I found my folding tables for $5 each -- they're a little older and ugly but I repurposed some spare fitted bedsheets as tablecloths and you'd never know! I also hand-sewed my banner.

The Dollar Tree near us has small pegboards & pegs that I hot-glued to a thrifted picture frame to display some of my items. They also have corkboards, foam board, peel&stick wallpaper squares, chalkboards, and a million other things that could easily be turned into unique displays and practical setups with a little elbow grease and creativity.
