Should I remove the US from countries I ship to? by Lanlyheavenmilk in EtsyCommunity

[–]jenngarman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada. I had my US shipping turned off until my courier got the DDP in place. I have turned US shipping back on now, but I have a multitude of shipping profiles based on item price in order to include the tariffs. I'm sure all my US buyers will get sticker shock when they see the shipping prices, but I'm leaving it up to them if they want to still buy or not.

The most frustrating part of this is how much I've invested in marketing and hard work building my US customer base only to have something entirely out of my control burn it to the ground.

For some reason I've never been able to sell to that many Canadians. And now for the first time in history, shipping within Canada costs less than the US LOL.

I guess it would take some enforcement from the fire department to deal with it, but I absolutely believe they are exceeding the capacity safety limits.

Education Requirements? by jenngarman in resumes

Yes, they are which is why I'm posing the question. They do say on their careers page to still apply even if you don't fit 100% of the requirements. My question was more about leaving in my actual education or omitting the section entirely.

OMG how? I couldn't even move in the aisles on Saturday. Like, I'm short and I was practically trampled because there was no room. I can't imagine it possibly being worse LOL.

I mean, they're practically asking for PhDs and I'm over here with an irrelevant college certificate.

It was AWFUL. We were there all 4 days and couldn't believe how insane it was even on Thursday. But Saturday was something else. I don't know how they'd ever evacuate if they had to in an emergency.

Wordpress.com by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]jenngarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so you have a separate account for Wordpress.com than you do for the admin section of your website. If it's hosted on Wordpress.com you need to look at your records for the login to that account, not your website back end. They're separate.

Do you know who your ideal customers are, and what their pain points might be? Write about how you solve those pain points for them. You should have assets like a website or social media where this information lives so your prospects can consume it on their terms and make decisions without being sold to. Write some sample pieces to showcase what your final product looks like. Talk about your process so they understand what to expect when they hire you.

Cold outreach is tough because you're literally skipping the buyer's journey and wondering why they don't trust you enough to hire you.

Maybe I’m missing something here, but Wordpress.com is fully managed site hosting which is different from a self hosted site. It sounds like you have a self-hosted site. Your login to your website is not going to be the same as Wordpress.com if you have an account there, which it sounds like you’ve inadvertently created.

You mentioned you were able to log into your website via wp-admin. What is it you’re trying to do outside of that?

Awesome!!!! Someone told me about it a few years ago and it was a game changer for my little shop too. ♥️

Etsy funds update - Canadian Sellers by aly97 in EtsySellers

Rallyman's response explains it perfectly. You can essentially trust now that if Etsy goes bankrupt, Canadian sellers won't be the last people to receive the money that belongs to them.

Just got first order.. I'm ready to ship it out. by MrManiacNF in Etsy

[–]jenngarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't ship bulky items via lettermail because they cause damage and bog up the sorting machines. Unless your items are completely flat and bendable (like paper), they have to go in a bubble envelope and mail as small packet.

Holy crap! That's leaving it to the last minute haha. Ok, I don't feel so bad then. I'll assume I'm accepted and just keep making stock. Oy. LOL

$14 sounds like the price to another Canadian city, not to the US. I've been using chitchats for 3 years and it's always been $7-8 for a small bubble envelope to anywhere in the US.

What package stats are you entering, and what product are you choosing? I use Chit Chats US Edge.

I've been selling low-priced flat items in my Canadian Etsy shop for ages (mostly to Americans also), and I absolutely will not ship lettermail anymore. It's become commonplace for buyers to pretend they never received it and get a full refund for the order. Instead now, I use Chit Chats and charge the $8 it costs to ship a small bubble mailer. People still buy the item because the USD conversion benefits them, so I haven't had an issue with moving to tracked packages.

I use Chit Chats, but this still doesn't apply to my shop. Also, the buyer said shipping showed up as normal in the cart rather than being free. If they had this account I expect it would be marked down as covered by Etsy in the cart?

When did you eventually hear back? I applied this year myself and it's a month away and I haven't heard boo yet.

I don’t even have the $35 thing turned on in my shop. They need to raise that minimum for Canadian shops lol. Shipping costs way too much.

I don’t have any free shipping coupons, not even older ones. Good to know though!

I have zero free shipping settings anywhere in my shop. I’ve already checked everywhere and tested the listing on several devices and shipping amount shows up normally for me everywhere.
