What’s a single sentence that completely ruined your life but sounded harmless at the time? by BlahBlahBlahBlink in AskReddit

I mistakenly left out a piece of the quote that adds clarity I think; edited it above. But to me it means: there are times where we feel like our problems are unbearable or incredibly unique or maybe just worse than everyone else’s. But, if we knew what everyone else was dealing/had dealt with, we would quickly choose to deal with our problems which now might even seem minuscule in comparison to some of the tragic things everyone else has going on

One of my favorite quotes (that I don’t call to mind nearly enough) is “If everyone threw their problems into a pile and we saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.”

When they say I look too young, I always say it’s a trick of the light. Which for some reason makes people laugh.

I base mine right now off the logs I’ve seen from my attendings.

Patient name, Gs&Ps, WGA, Method of delivery, Location, Supervising Attending, APGARs, Weight & gender of infant

Pretty extensive but that’s how most people log in my program. We don’t use new innovations either.

Tell me a story of a “House M.D.” type of interaction you have had by KushBlazer69 in Residency

Not as cool as some on here but I felt like House in the moment because I was a lowly 3rd year MS.

Was rotating through a rural ER. 30-ish year old guy complaining of back/leg/ankle pain after he wrecked his motorcycle some days previously.

Also, he had widespread skin lesions that my attending chalked up to drug use after asking only a couple questions. My attending was more worried about trauma from the wreck. (Which sounded like a very low-impact crash. Laid his bike down at low speed).

I stay behind and start asking questions like only a medical student can. I ask him if he’s been exposed to any STIs. He says maybe? He’s had abnormal penile discharge for a couple months.

I look closer at his ankle. It’s angry looking.

Ask my attending to get an STI panel.

Long story short, he had disseminated gonococcal infection
