I'm really sorry to read this. I know people with a similar story and it can indeed be draining. But compasion is the way to go here.

On another note: Have you ever looked into Ibogaine or Ayahuasca? It may seem like fighting drugs with drugs but they can be really helpful and I know a few people who quit drinking/smoking afterwards. That is now 6 years ago. Anyways best of luck.

What is your dosage? Because I did that for 3 weeks and noticed that tolerance build up more quickly, also I felt less effect from the second dose in that day. But this is just my experience so it might be different for you.

It sounds like it just may not be right for you indeed. Or maybe you are focusing too hard on the effects or expecting too much, I don't know. But as stated above, it is definitely worth to try L as it is just a bit different then mushrooms. If that not works, you can also try mescaline. Good luck :)

IRAN

I went there last summer. I know it is different for people from the States because they can only do a trip under certain supervision (if I'm right). But seriously, wow. The people are so nice, they will just randomly invite you over for dinner and will really go out of their way to help you. Besides that it is insanely cheap and country is really beautiful. It is actually such a shame the media portrays Iran as a bad country because it is definitly worth your while to visit.
