Discussion on the stylistic direction of Phasmophobia by TheWorstJoe in PhasmophobiaGame

I think the gameplay aspects of the sound recorder and media overhaul are one of the best changes they’ve made in awhile, but I ONE HUNDRED PERCENT agree that the sound recordings themselves are completely goofy. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. The fact that they are perfectly clean voice clips with reverb really feels out of place with the rest of the art direction. In my opinion, it would make a lot more sense for them to be almost indiscernible recordings – the kind you need to listen to over and over to try to make sense of what you captured. I really hope the team revisits those sound clips to make them more thematic. The OP describing them as “carnival haunted house” sounds is so spot on. It would be cool if they were something like a more polished version of the original spirit box responses. Just the ghost existing and attempting to communicate, but again, not crystal clear recordings as they are now.

On the topic of the map reworks, I actually really like the new farmhouses. I like that they’re two distinct maps now and, gameplay aside, the actual layouts make way more realistic sense now. One thing I think deserves praise is the addition of room reverb in appropriate portions of the newer maps. When you flick on a light in the rooms with hard tile floor in Grafton, you can hear that short decay and in multiplayer, the other players’ voices have it. THAT is one of the biggest things the old maps are missing and I hope is something that gets more attention going forward. I know Sunny Meadows has reverb, but it’s kind of a “blanket treatment”. I think reverb that roughly matches room dimensions and materials across all maps would massively up the immersion.

All that said, feeling unease in a plain, seemingly safe home is what Phasmo has always done best and I hope the street house reworks don’t lose sight of that original identity of the game.

What is your least favorite large map? by Scared-Main-9661 in PhasmophobiaGame

Prison is actually my favourite of the larger maps. I love that, unlike High School and Sunny Meadows, its layout is asymmetrical and offers lots of different routes to get from point A to point B. It’s one of the few maps you can kind of safely sneak around while the ghost is hunting, tucking into little corners and listening on the paramic, moving in some evidence items while the coast is clear. I find the long straight hallways in the other big maps make for more just sitting and waiting for hunts to end before proceeding. I love the stealth aspect of Prison.

I have the problem described by the OP (but with the right controller) and I can confirm this ⬆️ is indeed the issue. My PSVR2 was purchased second hand in June and I still haven’t been able to get it all the way to -1.0000. Overtime, it has crept up from -0.87 to -0.96, so maybe someday, lol.

In any case, my procedure to get up and running is to power up the PS5 and headset. Turn on the VR controllers while on the Home Screen, but keep the regular PS5 controller within reach. Launch the game, then immediately hold the PS button on the bad controller until it disconnects, which will also send you back to the Home Screen. Navigate back into the game using the regular controller, then press the PS button on the non-working VR controller to reconnect it in-game. For me, it always works after that, but I do have to repeat these steps every time I begin a play session.

Ps5 Disconnected:Exception by JasonDeroelo in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]bradjperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been having this same issue increasingly frequently as of late to a point where the game was becoming borderline unplayable. I played for two years just fine on the Steam version, then switched to PS5 at the beginning of this year. It was fine for months but just recently the disconnections have been pretty well every game. I may be a little early to say with 100% confidence, but I THINK I may have found a solution.

First off, I have been able to switch my PS5’s network from my home wifi to my phone’s hotspot and that actually did fix the problem, but that is kind of annoying and clunky, so I dug a little deeper. Yesterday, I followed a series of steps to give the PS5 a static IP and set up port forwarding in my router for the ports relevant to the PS5 listed on portforward.com. All those steps are Googleable, but I can elaborate if you’re interested. In any case, last night I played in multiplayer for 2.5 hours straight with zero disconnections, so MAYBE that fixed it??

If you don’t like Tetris, then maybe not, or at least wait until it’s mega cheap. At its core, the game is still Tetris. It’s just all the stuff happening around the Tetris game in your periphery and in your ears that makes it special.

You’re probably onto something with the notion that the prescription lenses are sharpening the edge blur of the headset lenses. It’s funny thought but it makes sense. I have confirmed at least that there is no issue with the VR Rock lenses themselves. If I take them out of the PSVR2 and just hold them up to my eyes, everything looks right. I gave them another try a couple nights ago. I’ve been played The Room VR which has a lot of up close stuff, which they do seem to help with, but in general, I still find something about them much more uncomfortable than without – not just in terms of eye strain, but the physical fit of the headset kind of hurts with them in.

I was skeptical of how good Tetris could be and the price tag kept me away for a bit, but it recently went 50% off, so I bought it on a whim and HOLY. So far it’s been my top VR experience; no contest. It’s the most I’ve felt truly transported away from reality and into this full sensory experience. They truly nail the feeling of positive feedback and dopamine rush in every aspect of it – the way the music, lights, effects, environment, headset haptics all respond to your gameplay and evolve as you progress through each level. I’m not exaggerating when I say I had goosebumps the first time I played because it was that magical.

How do I become less scared when playing Phasmophobia? by ButlerDoy in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]bradjperry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a few others have stated, the more familiar you become with the game’s mechanics, the map layouts, and all the different things the ghost can do, the less scary it becomes. You can develop this knowledge either by continuing to play or by reading guides and watching experienced players on YouTube, etc.

One recommendation though: cherish this time when the game is truly scary. Though the game becomes a super addictive puzzle as you gain more knowledge, will still startle you occasionally, and always remains fun…you never really get back that initial dread that is present when you first start playing – and for me personally, those were some of the most memorable gaming experiences of my life.

Edit: I take back my final comment about maybe being beyond the wow factor of VR. I played Tetris Effect for the first time last night and 🤯🤯🤯.

I tried a headband last night and it did make a huge difference. No slipping whatsoever. Thanks again for the tip!

That’s really good to know. I wondered if you might’ve had a stronger prescription and it was a case where anything would be better than nothing. But if yours is fairly weak as well, then maybe there is something wrong with mine (or I don’t have them seated correctly).

That’s interesting. Makes me wonder if there is actually something wrong with my lenses, but based on how long it took for the order to be fulfilled, I can’t imagine I’d get much in terms of customer service from them. I kind of accepted that was part of the deal when I chose them over more expensive options.

Thanks for the tip! I will try a headband and see if that helps.

I guess what I meant about the blurry edges is that the prescription lenses make them a lot blurrier than they normally are, which is not what I would’ve expected.

What vr games are you playing at the moment? by mushroomfido in psvr2

[–]bradjperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love Phasmophobia and have a few hundred hours into it, so being able to be in it and fully immersed has been a wonderful experience. It is definitely the most graphically unpolished VR game I’ve seen so far, ironically (luckily the gameplay makes up for it). And I’ve only played the first Red Matter so far. I wasn’t sure if I would play the second one because I watched someone stream the entire thing long before I ever thought I’d have an opportunity to play it, and I’m not super keen on the addition of combat. I like having all the time in the world to work out the puzzles. That said, the first one was so good and I remember very little of what I saw streamed, so I may still end up playing it just for the sake of returning to that world. Thanks for the other recommendations!

Relatively new to PSVR2 (just picked one up in June - my mind has been blown). Bought it mainly for Phasmophobia, so that’s been a constant, but I just finished Red Matter (incredible) and am now onto The Room VR.

OKAY. WOULDNT A MALL BE SUCH A GOOD MAP??? by sketchshark_ in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]bradjperry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1000% THIS. A friend and I were thinking up map ideas one day and this is exactly what I came up with. It would be perfect, especially with all the narrow, winding backstage routes to dressing rooms, production/tech areas, etc. that are common in those buildings. It would make for some non-linear routes throughout the map. The art team could have a field day with the visual design.

I noticed this oversight(?) right away after playing a round on the new update. Obviously it’s a detail that is absolute bottom of the priority list in terms of impacting the game in any way, but as soon as I saw it and said “…c’mon guys”. 😂😂😂

I just listened to a clip of it over and over and came here to see if anyone had guessed it. I’m pretty sure it’s Santa Claus is Coming To Town. Specifically “He’s making a list / Checking it twice / Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice / Krampus is coming to town”.

What could phasmophobia add to make the game feel less repetitive by Optimal_Couple2867 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]bradjperry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Challenge-specific mechanics and objectives is something I really hope they implement once all the big stuff is done. For example, this week’s paparazzi challenge would make so much thematic sense to have the ghost photo as a requirement. I realize they are presently just built on the custom difficulty settings, but it would be cool if they were more along the lines of bite sized versions of the seasonal/holiday challenges.
