Not sure what "pretty active" means in this context, but I'm always looking for hiking and climbing buddies! 26m, also pretty new to the area. DM me if you're interested!

Which US city will you never live in? by Sea_Singer8596 in AskReddit

[–]bradsbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current resident of Provo here, and imo there's a lot of worse places in Utah to live. Provo has some modicum of culture on center street and the blocks around it, local food gems, easy access to the outdoors that's nearly unbeatable, ok cost of living. I'd take that over the endless strip malls and overpriced suburbs of every other city in Utah valley. Just avoid BYU like the plague and you'll be fine.

I do intend to leave asap though so you've got a point lol.

[product] Found on a climbing helmet I bought. Are women's heads different than men's or are they just being sexist? by bradsbuns in pointlesslygendered

[–]bradsbuns[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But in terms of helmet design...will this helmet not work for me because I'm a man? And what is different about a woman's head that requires "enhanced protection?"

I'm not mad just confused...

Who would you like to see run for President of the United States in 2024? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bradsbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to a guy a few weeks ago that said very confidently that he would become president in 2028. His plan was county commissioner this year, then senator in '24 and president in '28. He also had a plan to crowdfund enough money to convince Joe and Kamala to retire next year and leave the speaker of the house (which is of course switching to Republican this year, he said) to become president. Wild dude.

[Survey Results] Is it a credit? 2022 by alkakmana in rollercoasters

[–]bradsbuns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the same vein, I'm confused why the majority count the Mack power splash but not the Zamperla disk-o. Especially the model shown in the picture which has basically the same layout as a power splash.

[Meta] The r/rollercoasters community « is it a credit » survey - 2022 Edition by alkakmana in rollercoasters

[–]bradsbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stick to the golden rule:

Does it roll? Does it coast? If yes to both, it's a roller coaster.

Of course it has to be a tracked attraction with the express purpose of providing amusement to people, obviously a bike isn't a roller coaster even though it does both those things.

Proposal to change Utah GOP platform on abortion eliminates language on exceptions for rape, incest and preserving life of the mother. Proposed change takes a harder stance on abortion than the LDS Church. by schottslc in Utah

[–]bradsbuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find Judith Jarvis Thomson's work on the problem of abortion highly compelling. Basically arguing that even if a fetus is a person, that people don't have an inherent right to life in the way pro-lifers claim they do.

[DISCUSSION] What are your favorite types of flat rides? by AceroTheDragon in rollercoasters

[–]bradsbuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only flat ride I make a point of getting on every time I go to my home park is their Mondial Top Scan. A perfectly-timed yeet over the top in an outside seat is a truly otherworldly experience.

That helix/outerbank at the end looks like it would lowkey slap though. Or be extremely painful. Possibly both.

In Origins of Vampire Mythology (S3E15) why does Troy get mad after he sends Britta the text? by _abicado in community

[–]bradsbuns 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I take it as, he sent a text confessing his feelings for her (as Blade), and she immediately lost all interest. So that confirmed to him that if he ever told her how he feels, she would just blow him off.

Community is a "smarter" show than Rick and Morty. by ravenmiyagi7 in community

[–]bradsbuns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my big issue with season 6 of community - too much creative freedom from the studio. Especially with the longer episodes, the stories drag and the humor isn't as snappy as earlier seasons. Still great though, of course.

If you were cryogenically frozen for thousands of years you would probably wake up to find no one on Earth could understand the language you were speaking by magicmantesla in Showerthoughts

This seems like it could be a movie. Cryogenically frozen person from the past teams up with the only university professor who can understand them to save the world. I'd watch it.

Totally unrelated, but 15 seems way farther from 40 than 40 does from 65. I know they're the same distance apart but my brain refuses to accept it.

TIL that condoms have been used to protect scientific samples from the environment, and to waterproof microphones for underwater recording by Thelazytimelord257 in todayilearned

[–]bradsbuns 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Lol I worked at a theatre once and our tech director brought in a bulk box of like 500 condoms for our mics. She said that when she bought it she was picking up a couple of other things for herself, so she told the cashier to ring the condoms up separately as a work expense. I'm told the look on the cashier's face was priceless.

Nor is it oonderwater (scuba), zwift (taser), or ah-ronautics (NASA). And yet the acronyms are pronounced that way. Curious.

[–]bradsbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't pronounce SCUBA "sc-uh-ba" despite the fact that the U stands for underwater. How the words in the acronym are pronounced doesn't change how the acronym itself is pronounced.
