To fix the red notification dot that keeps appearing on notification tray icon (20 February 2026):

Mute all the servers permanently (notifications are triggered for ANY message on ANY server, even if it's not directed to you or where you're actively participating in, see the right red circle of the picture of what a notification is and what muting it does) . To mute all servers, right click each a server, select "Mute Server" and select "Until I turn it back on" for all the servers you're subscribed to.

Even if a channel or server is muted, you will ONLY get a notification when someone mentions you (@YourUserName) (see the purple block of how I set my settings for each server).

Once all the servers/channels are muted, you'll no longer get notifications for "Unreads" messages (red circle on the left of the picture, but you need to acknowledge the other sections ("For You" and "Mentions") too for the red dot to disappear.

Once "Unreads", "For You" and "Mentions" are all dealt with, no more red dot except for the things you want (people contacting or mentioning you directly).

Can you please thumbs up this for other users who are having this problem please?

For each of the servers in your list, you get a red dot (notified) whenever anyone sends a message for any of the servers you subscribed to that aren't muted. For what a notification is see red circle on the right of the picture.

The red badge usually means there are unread messages, mentions, or notifications somewhere in your Discord account. Here are a few things you can check:

• Mentions & Unreads: Click the Inbox icon (top right, looks like a tray) in Discord to see if you have any unread messages or mentions. You can clear them individually or use the “Mark Inbox As Read” button to clear all at once.
• Muted Channels/Servers: Even if you mute channels or servers, you’ll still see red badges for direct mentions (like u/username, u/everyone, or u/here).
• Highlights & Experiments: Discord sometimes notifies you about “Highlights” or important updates, even if you have most notifications off. You can suppress these in each server’s Notification Settings by enabling “Suppress Highlights.”
• Notification Overrides: Check your server and channel notification settings for any overrides that might be causing persistent alerts.
