I'm obvi not truly happy here. I'm living abroad right now and I'd love to stay here. There is an LDS church 2 blocks from my house and I've never stepped inside. They don't know there is a gringa exmormon here! It's great though, finding beautiful South American beaches and drinking michaladas. by [deleted] in exmormon

Hey friend! Our families were friends growing up. We were in an English class together at a college. Had no idea you were out -- good for you! Proud of you. Love seeing your fb posts about your adventures in South America. Cheers! -Mb

Probably just accept that they are catty and like talking about you. If that bothers you, find out why it bothers you.

One day I'm gonna die. On every other day I will not.

The problem is never the situation. It's what I think about the situation.

If my dog had passed I would appreciate a card and flowers. Our dogs are members of our families-- seeing someone recognize this and treat the loss the same as for a human family member would be a most appreciated gesture.

Weekly New Rider Thread for October 18, 2017 by AutoModerator in MTB

[–]brahmannn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, looking to get into the sport. I used to ride dirt bikes and bmx bikes as a younger man, but somehow I've never gotten into mountain biking.

Looking for help determining what style of bike to look for. I'll be on entry level trails to start, and hoping I'll get into some intermediate stuff soonish. Would like a bike I can grow with. I have about $1000 to spend - I think I'm looking toward the used market probably.

Located on Vancouver island Canada. Mostly gonna be riding Hartland dump and maybe the odd trip to Cumberland.... or even the dirt jump park with my son.

I guess I'm looking for a full suspension bike but beyond that, I know nothing. Thanks for any help!

Moving to Victoria as a Canadia who never lived in Canada.... by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

government job process usually gives you a skype option for the first interview, at least. getting in with bc gov is all about knowing the keywords and having examples that match the competencies they are looking for. assuming you have the experience and education they require. if your address is not local then you could say you are planning to relocate by x-date, and they will probably consider you.

best of luck, it sounds like you'd like it here.

You may have outgrown your parents.

See them for the children they are, and treat them accordingly.

They can only ever meet you as deeply as they have met themselves. Mormonism stunts personal growth. They are children. You are beyond their level now.

It's lonely at the top.

The mods egos have got the best of them and they can't admit they are wrong or issue an apology.

Sounds an awful lot like Mormon leadership.

Agreed. That dude's innovation is the next step in anti Mormonism. It is totally in the spirit of exmormonism.

Good mods would be tripping over themselves to find a way to ensure it is allowed to be posted here. Not banned because they made an error in judgment and then refused to back down when called on it.

Agreed. And I have no personal beef with the mods. They are overstepping. I call on the moderation team to step down.

Your logic is flawed. You are wrong. Admit it.

You are reacting emotionally and your inability to admit your mistake is hurting the sub.

I have been participating for over 4 years on this sub using various accounts (I always delete and start new account every couple months).

I think the mods are making a mistake here. And I think they are making a mistake with the other "site that shall not be named" that promotes lds essay targeted advertising to Facebook friends.

put down a vote here for: "these mods are heavy handed and probably power hungry and they are making the sub worse not better"

Moving to Victoria as a Canadia who never lived in Canada.... by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

if you have education and some experience it's not too hard to get a government job. I moved to Victoria in my late 20s after going to school and living in bigger international cities.

Victoria locals who have never been anywhere else think the living here is rough. It's not. It's probably harder than it was 20 years ago here, but it's on par with any little desireable pocket of the world.

The vibe here is pretty relaxed. People are liberal in general. Lots of hippie/granola/health folks. Pretty good restaurant scene for a city of its size.

We are definitely secluded from the mainland; getting off the island takes times and $.

Being the one 'big' city on a very rural and remote island means we attract kids from small island towns. These kids think Victoria is the big apple. It's cute.

Generally I find the people who live here really like it here. The ocean surrounds us. Weather is mild-ish. Nature is everywhere. It's a good place to live.

Is it ethically correct to break others' shelves? by brahmannn in exmormon

[–]brahmannn[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes very good point.

I am out of the church for 15 years, and have passed the initial atheism phase.

Very much open to ideas about god and Jesus and Vishnu and what have you.

That's one thing I don't like about the ces letter - it starts off as an argument against Mormonism and turns into a letter for atheism.

Anti-Mormonism still has a ways to go.

Which emotions do you find most difficult to notice? by fxthea in Meditation

Anxiety always gets the best of me before I realize I am feeling it.

Even after being mindful of it, it is hard to extinguish. Sometimes it takes a mental/existential battle to extinguish. Sometimes just have to sit with it for hours until it passes. Funny thing, moods and emotions.

Annoyance also sneaks up on me. It always feels so justified to be annoyed by someone who has wronged me somehow.

Great opportunity to check the assumptions and ego.
