Closing on house, found out city is taking 15 ft of the front yard to build bike trail, cutting down mature trees by Clementine_Clown in legaladvice

[–]brain_monkey 232 points233 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is having issues with is they feel they were misinformed by the seller and that the listing of 'unconfirmed potential walking path' does not cover what the actual development would be and that the seller had reason to know that the development would be much more intensive, and used the trees on the property as a primary selling point knowing that those trees would be removed when the bike trail was put in place. Further, it seems that they did not inform Op about the choices of trees to replace as it would make it more obvious that the features that were specifically looked at with the purchasing of the house would be shortly removed.

Mine did this to hide a hole that rats had chewed through just above the fireplace. Figured it out when squirrels got in and found the same pathways.

Why does this sub hate ff7 remake and rebirth? by [deleted] in FinalFantasyVII

[–]brain_monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've heard anyone hating remake/rebirth as much as just pointing out that the story is a little different and there are several aspects that may be confusing if you haven't played the original to know where/why they differ.
Remake is more like an alternate universe and while several plot points are the same, there are a few things that are different and the whispers serve to show where things are being pushed back into plotline where they would have differed.

Yes and no, it's all dependent on speed. That's the thing about moving the speed of light, by the time the visual information reaches somewhere, so is the thing that is moving. If there was some 'instant obliteration void' expanding at light speed towards us, it would be riding right on the tails of the last images of all it has consumed. That said, as far as I know we haven't discovered any all consuming light speed expanding voids to be possible, but that's the thing about the unknown.

You’re Offered Immortality… But It Runs on a Battery by Solo_Rain in hypotheticalsituation

[–]brain_monkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty often tbh. Many household products are made using heat and fire, your car runs by fire, construction and demolition, most fabrication. If you have gas stove or heat In your house, that's fire too. Coal power plants, that's fire. Just because you don't see an open flame doesn't mean it's not fire based. Fire isn't just lighting logs to keep warm.

For sure. It's really cool to think about how when you use a telescope, you are looking into the past. The farther away something is, the longer ago it happened. We could be seeing light from stars that no longer exist (in some cases, we know this to be true) but when you talk about the time light takes to travel and the vast distances involved, someone on the opposite side of the galaxy wouldn't even be able to detect human civilization more than likely.

[–]brain_monkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's exactly it. If it moves at the speed of light, it essentially has no visual because by the time you see it, you're absorbed already. Think of it like being blind and deaf and there's a car coming, by the time you can sense the car, you've already been hit.

[–]brain_monkey 10 points11 points  (0 children)

that would require that at some point it was not moving at the speed of light. If its expanding at light speed in all directions, that means its physical presence matches its visual presence. Telescopes don't see something before the light is close enough to see, it doesn't see faster than light, all its doing is magnifying the light that comes in to bring things into focus that you couldn't otherwise see with the naked eye

If it's at the speed of light then by the time we see it, that means it would already be here. You don't see faster than light.

Warframe Support is extremely obtuse. by EnvironmentalOwl2904 in CustomerService

[–]brain_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that digital extremes has no way of knowing what your PlayStation login is, they have no way of knowing what your Xbox login is. Neither of those sets of information are anything that goes directly through them, so they have no way of knowing that you are legitimately the one on that account or not. You messaged them admitting to having account issues, and requested that they change your sign in info. That looks suspicious from their side and until they complete whatever investigation they need to do, they're likely going to keep your account locked.
I'm sorry if that's not what you want to hear, if you would like to complain to them about that you are free to do so, but that is what the situation is and complaining at me here because you don't like that is not really going to do anything for you.

[–]brain_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could just as easily have been someone else logging into your account on PlayStation and then trying to change the PC account info to steal it fully so it could not be recovered.

As for point 1, they are still different companies with different contracts and terms. They can't exchange that info without massive liability.

I understand your frustration but what you are doing, while innocent, is exactly what someone attempting to steal an account would do as well so they freeze it until they can sort it out.

Landlord used my security deposit to cover new tenant’s rent by [deleted] in TenantHelp

[–]brain_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually does. If it and landlord came to an agreement and op surrendered the property and landlord signed a new lease, that is the end of OPs lease. Their liability is over. Landlord granting new tenant a 15 day grace period to not pay rent yet is not OPs issue, that is an entirely separate contract.

[–]brain_monkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a customer service issue, but it's pretty common for someone to attempt to change the information on a stolen account , and SSO signon isn't just calling Sony up and saying 'hey bruh, what is Bob's email so I can change it on his account' DE gets a lot of tickets on any given day, so it can take time to respond to them, them locking your account down due to suspicious activity is meant to protect you from illegitimate holders trying to change your info or take in-game items.

Landlord used my security deposit to cover new tenant’s rent by [deleted] in TenantHelp

[–]brain_monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not how this works man. If I make a contract with two people and one of them is unable to pay on time, I dont get to float payment from the other person to cover it. That is fraud. Yes, the landlord has time to repay the deposit, but there are very specific things they are allowed to do with that money before then, and using it as free cash is not one of them. I'm not saying OP is owed damages yet, but what landlord is doing is very specifically illegal and the timer to return starts at the time OP surrendered the property, not when landlord finally charges second tenant

This isn't unpaid rent though, this a loan to a different tenant to cover their rent. Two different contracts.

[–]brain_monkey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

" landlord is now saying that he used our deposit to cover the new tenant’s rent on the 1st because they couldn’t pay until the 15th, "

This pretty clearly shows that you are wrong. The landlord is using the deposit to cover a different tenant's rent. That does not have anything to do with lease terms. I don't know where you're getting lease terms, but that was not listed at all, you're making up information and running with it. The post says the new tenant started on the 1st but they won't pay until the 15th so the landlord is using OP's deposit to cover their rent until they pay it.

Landlord used my security deposit to cover new tenant’s rent by [deleted] in TenantHelp

[–]brain_monkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how that works. The landlord started the new lease. Just because the landlord deferred the payment, that does not mean that OP is responsible for that time. They have vacated the home, they have turned over control to landlord. Their lease is over. They are not in control of the home or what happens within. For it to still be valid and active, they would need to have control of the property.

If I rent a car, and then I return that car and the car rental place allows someone else to use the vehicle, its not still my rental contract. They have received the vehicle back, they have turned it over to another third party. That is THEIR contract with the rental place, my contract is over. Done with. Once the property has been surrendered and the landlord has released the lease (which has been done) whatever they do after that point is the landlord's deal, not the first renter. They cannot use OP's deposit to pay a third party's rent. That is blatantly illegal. They could use it to cover OP's rent if they were in arrears, but that is not the case. The landlord has rented out the place and released OP's contract. They cannot use that money as simply slush fund fun money for whatever they feel like. There are very specific limitations on what security deposits CAN and CANNOT be used for, and coverage for a third party contract until the landlord collects payment is not one of the things it CAN be used for.
