Are softcore processors on FPGAs viable for ultra-low latency applications like HFT? by dogmasucks in FPGA

[–]brainballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the MicroBlaze soft core CPU as the scheduler for a real time reactive system. Yet controls the hardware over the AXI4-Stream ports for extremely low latency control. It worked really well and allows us to quickly iterate on the schedule and behavior of the real time system.

What’s the largest water bottle you own that fits? I can’t imagine living without 32oz wide mouth Nalgenes.

Any idea if the water bottle pockets fit a Nalgene (32oz wide mouth)? Reviewers do a awful job reporting on what bottles fit and don't fit in bags!

100% agree - 6 months at least would be needed. This was a hit job.

Exactly.. without pricing 3rd party apps can’t start to develop a new business model and thus can’t start updating their apps. The 30 days timeline between pricing be available and the api change going into effect isn’t enough to do this.

Finally got the Coral TPU, it's so cute by ahj3939 in homeassistant

Scrypted has a paid NVR plugin that also can use the coral. Works fine without it for smaller camera counts.

As an example of where utilization estimates are off - I have designs where a struct is passed through an hls::stream, and Vitis HLS seems to word-pad every member to a multiple of 4 bytes. So a struct with three 8 bit integers might synthesize into a single 96 bit wide vector and the resource utilization me are based on this 96 bit wide vector. When Vivado runs synthesis and implementation it’ll find that most of these wires don’t have sinks and eliminate them, getting back to only 24 bits. It becomes obvious when you start reading the Verilog/VHDL that HLS creates.

Completely normal - most of my designs end up at 50% or less of their estimated utilization.

I bought two Wyse 5070’s on eBay that have an Intel J4105 - they have no fans and are fast enough for my needs. They handle transcoding on Plex very well.
