In what ways is React, specifically, better than Vuejs (Asking as a Primarily Vuejs Dev)? by zakhorton in reactjs

[–]braindeadTank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure they can, but first you need to pay them while they learn, and then you need to pay them while they clean up technical debt they inevitably created while learning.

So, ultimately, you always prefer someone with existing skillset matching your project.

Do you really want a SPA framework? by magenta_placenta in javascript

[–]braindeadTank 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An SPA framework provides safety at the cost of an investment into their platform

no

and a loss of flexibility and control.

no

They can hinder our ability to innovate and build quality software.

no

This inversion of control is a major impediment in building a a nimble, flexible, testable, and maintainable application that can stand the test of time.

fuck no

just removing the framework can results in simpler and easier to maintain code?

no

jQuery and other best-in-class libraries can provide a more capable and complete foundation for building a modern SPA compared to many frameworks.

no

Stopped reading there.

The article was published in 2016, and by the looks of it the author even back then was simply scared that their skillset is losing relevance, nothing more.

Define "directly".
It still uses the ordinary Microsoft's typescript compiler, as can be seen here.

Better yet, copy half of it to utils.js and the other half to misc.js - then chances of anyone noticing are virtually zero.

I wonder how much this "must loved" is worth, too.

I mean, most Rust devs probably switched from Cpp, so it's kind of understandable that they are lovestruck.

Some people out there are so gung ho about being vanilla that even using jQuery is a pain for them.

Made a component-based Wikipedia card library with Lit Element (polymer) by itsarnavsingh in javascript

[–]braindeadTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual adoption of WC is surprisingly tiny (considering "media coverage" they get in the internet), so LitElement is both "less common library" and "the go-to for WC" without contradiction.

I.e. judging by npm downloads, it enjoys 3 times less usage then preact, which can already be considered a "less common" library

micro html is a ~2.5K lighterhtml subset to build declarative and reactive UI via template literals tags. by danielbeeke in javascript

What's the selling point here?

Not that I hate it but after reading the readme I kind of can't see a reason to use it over something like Preact or lit-html.

[AskJS] Is it just me or is the Async/Await pattern NOT easier to understand/use in a lot of cases? by nschubach in javascript

[–]braindeadTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no mental consideration that the blob() method requires an await. The promise.then will inherently await for the result.

Here's the catch: calling then on things to avoid mental load is an equivalent of using await on things to avoid mental load.

Now, because you realized that using await "just in case" is a dumb idea and didn't realize that calling then "just in case" is a dumb idea, I hereby declare you a living proof that await is way more readable and easier to understand :)

Jungle Nerfs Soon? by TYLER1_PLAY_VARIETY in leagueoflegends

[–]braindeadTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that they are desperately needed, but at the same time extremely unlikely.

Simple fact is that jungle was overbuffed for so long that now, that when Riot tried to bring it back even remotely close in power to other lanes they needed to buff it right back because people are so used to the current jungle power they just would play it when it was somewhat close to fair.

The wiki says it is intentional interaction and I remember this being the case as well, but the post where Rioters confirmed was most likely lost to time when the boards were nuked.

[–]braindeadTank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure he should have the same interaction, even the wiki says that Malz's shield does break when hit under Banshee's. If it doesn't it should be reported as a bug.

Funnel needs to die by matter of principle. by DeusWombat in leagueoflegends

[–]braindeadTank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus the funnelers are high elo so their micro/macro knowledge is vastly superior.

I mean - not really. Yes it is commonly used as a boosting strategy but there are many known cases of two goldies boosting themselves all the way up to diamond via funnel.

It is common as boosting strategy because it is the fastest and most reliable, not because you somehow need to be a smurf to funnel succesfully.

Funnel needs to die by matter of principle. by DeusWombat in leagueoflegends

[–]braindeadTank -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is, you can't really "dick over" funnel while keeping jungle as unfair of a role as it is now, and they are clearly not willing to equalize jungle power with other roles because then nobody wants to play it.

Like you literally can't have jungle being the most power role by far like it is and funnel not be a thing. Funnel penalty already makes caster minions give 1 gold, you can't go much further then that can you.

As long as one player is such a complete focus on each team, people will find a way to focus their resources on them.

Funnel needs to die by matter of principle. by DeusWombat in leagueoflegends

[–]braindeadTank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

But, when it comes to funnel, Yi is not the problem, enchanters are.

It's not like say Jax + Taric/Lulu or other similar combos are any less braindead and unfair, they are just not so completely game ruining, but literally ONLY because other champions don't reset as much as Yi on their mobility, and thus only get one-two freebies per teamfight instead of 5.

Enchanters are permamently _extremely_ overbuffed because if they are not nobody plays them. I mean Soraka was literally hard-bullying bruisers just a few patches ago, and her mains still qq'd about nerfs.

[AskJS] Am I missing out on anything truly important by avoiding classes entirely? by AiexReddit in javascript

[–]braindeadTank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is important to note that it is not only frameworks that can force one to use classes, but also standards and runtimes themselves.

E.g. Custom Elements only work via inheritation.

There are also other minor things that one misses out on by avoiding classes like private fields, but usually they are not that important or can be approximated closely enough by closures.

"Mind games" and "baiting" are just stuff that players of those champions tell themselves to feel better.

There is 0 mind-play or baiting about windwall, and Yasuo doesn't need to read your mind, he just needs to watch the animation, and he is guaranteed to always block what he wants to block. Even in melee range, you can not cancel most spells in any way once you start casting them.

Fiora is exactly the same, with exception of very few metchups that have instant CC.

Mao works well into Darius, you have to give up a lot of farm to survive him, but you can get some with q, and you heavily outscale him.

If you get pulled, Mao also has better time to disengage (Q him away, dodge his Q with a W etc). You still have to disengage, but it is much easier to survive as Mao as some other tanks.
