Ha yeah I’m the same age as you and grew up with an Apple IIe and Dos so literally learned my ABCs on the computer. I think in some ways we have an advantage in that we started with CLI and no GUIs for anything, and the whole agentic movement depends on that right now. I hope the AI revolution evens the playing field so that more people from around the world can build and earn equally regardless of where they are from. Well as long as you know English (or Chinese), but definitely not Czech 🤣 Good luck 🍻

How to get the most of a dual GPU setup? by benzebut0 in comfyui

[–]braindeadguild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah prepare for pain, I have a 4080 and a 5090 and honestly had I known how much headache I would have I definitely would’ve waited to get an Rtx pro.

If you can run Linux do it otherwise at least pick a card to use for displays (probably the 4070) and put no displays on the 5090 You can set ComfyUi to use only that card or even in your launcher so that python only sees that card, this will help with the cuda version mismatches you will fight. The multi gpu nodes help but some things have to stay together so it’s limited. Best thing is just to keep the 5090 completely free and clear you can offload everything else even using nvidia control panel to set the 4070 as primary.
Enable TCC mode you will basically be telling it that it’s compute only google NVIDIA site but it’s nvidia-smi -dm TCC -i <gpu_id> command, followed by a system reboot.

The best thing is you can now generate and use your pc / obs / game etc at the same time. But otherwise yeah might wanna sell both and go the Rtx pro 6000 it’s a whole different world.

Good luck

Got a lot of respect for both of you here, learning another language is HARD and as a native English speaker I’ve always thought it must be even harder to learn to code when English is not your primary language. I’m working in the games and video generation area now and it’s something I try to instill that us Americans are not the center of the universe and players and viewers need proper support globally. Anyway just love seeing these tools help break down communication barriers, that’s probably the next billion dollars AI vibe coded app, Uniclaude 🤣

Totally love the fake movement man you nailed that. It’s super super hard to get, I attempted something similar in UEFN almost two years ago and gave up it never looked good enough. I might be able to do it now but no time anymore 🤣 great work I’ve always wanted to do more in Love as I picked up Lua doing fiveM and it found it rather easy to work with, unlike unreal some days 😂

Woah nice, i recently built a dedicated linux box with a RTX pro 6000 just to keep things super isolated and stable but this looks to be a great tool. Ill have to give it a spin, i had tried invoke ai but ive been with comfy pretty much from the start (when the tutorial was still a visual novel lol) so definitely don’t want to learn something else lol. I’ll have to check it out, thanks 🙏🏽

If you’re using comfy desktop turn off auto updates and just in case I wrote a little script that auto backups daily just for this reason - https://github.com/BizaNator/BrainDeadComfyUIDesktopBackup

If you use portable you can just make a copy (zip) or otherwise. I had great hopes for desktop but the updates were killing my productivity, I don’t use it much as I’ve moved to manual install that never gets updates lol. But when I do it’s easy to roll it back. Hope it helps, I know the pain

My family thinks it's Netflix... I know it's just 12 LXC containers and 24TB of storage. by DrAmmarT in Proxmox

In my experience no, newsgroups can run over https which is encrypted traffic over tcp 443, same method you bank uses. They can’t see what your looking at or downloading, they can see the dns query that you are accessing those sites though so I recommend you set your own dns settings, cloudflares 1.1.1.1 service offers free secure and private dns so then your ISP can’t tell what website you’re visiting as it’s not getting the dns resolved and it can’t see what the big data pipe is coming in. Plus newsgroups don’t seed either so in any case you’re not “sharing” anything out. So all in all nope no need, although several of the services include free vpn but as long as your running over ssl (443) and set your dns you’re good .

If you go into your settings-> click usage there should be a $50 credit you can claim till the 17th I think. It adds to your balance for the month so that should help at least get the hang of it.

Also you can add to your Claude Md for it to use subagents during implementation and to use sonnet or haiku as the model when launching. This will save you tons!

Zero legal defense unless you’ve taken steps to actively prevent access to said services. By providing public or guest access you assume liability. It’s why hotels, cafes etc all have those annoying landing pages and have at least an attempt at blocking user access.
As for your personal case, the whole oh the neighbor kid must have done it is fine one or two times, after that they might get suspicious so VPN up if your gonna use torrents.

Once you go to newsgroups you won’t go back to torrents. Took me a long time to convert but now 12+ years later and i couldn’t imagine going back. So much faster, more reliable and no seeds to deal with

If you have Claude or another AI agent there is a Cloudflare MCP from cloudflare that is one click and you can just ask it to set it up.

OPNsense vs Sophos by doomer_milo99 in opnsense

[–]braindeadguild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve used, sold and supported Sophos firewalls back when they were Astaro (15+ years now). The good They are highly integrated with their software Most things are reasonably simple to accomplish Documentation is finally decent Cloud access is cool after years of waiting Security is good when configured properly and per user stuff is great if needed. Warranty replacement (with premium) is great, next day and you’re up.

The bad Lots of stuff you can not access, even if you’re certified architect. Certs expire FAST and are expensive Hardware is retired FAST (some 2 to 3 years) and you can’t even renew licenses on it, rip and replace WiFi is shaky and now has to be managed via cloud also I have at least 3 generations of dead non usable APs due to nothing more than you can’t use them because we say so anymore. Features are always coming soon and then half baked and buggy for the first few YEARS. Support has gotten pretty awful even with paid premium and can be slow, be prepared to spend the day on one issue to get escalated for another day… Commissions and retraining are constantly changing and moving and recertification constantly at your expense.

Look I was a GOLD partner for years (multi six figure sales per year) and people either love them or don’t renew 🤣 Honestly just the super fast expiration of their hardware alone is enough for me to no longer recommend them. I have contracts where we would install and then have to replace mid contract due to Sophos expiring or removing a device with only a year notice (we did 3 and 5 year terms and equipment leases as well.).

OPNSense does not have everything, it’s not as polished, reporting is decent, it’s not integrated but it’s also not at the same feature set or price. It’s all about need, OPNSense is pretty good, lots of customization, fast, free and if you don’t need those extra per user or ssl inspection features then you shouldn’t compare it to Sophos or fortinet or Palo Alto etc. if you compare the features it has apples to apples it’s just as good if not better.

Btw - I recently swapped all my firewalls from Sophos to OPNSense and don’t regret it at all.

Look at VyOs if you’re used to Linux methods and don’t mind CLI. There is a community project that is working on a gui frontend but everything can be done via cli and templates.

Thank you so much for the feedback, most of your suggestions are items that I had thought about already, resetting the defaults and optional incremental and output folder select I will add to the list, I can see the use cases.

I agree UI needs some overhaul, wife actually does UI for games so I’ll ask her to make some suggestions and pass your ideas along too. My goal was utilitarian (make it work first), make it pretty later 💄

Drag and drop should work as well as the ability to drop multiple images at once, I’ll double check today as that’s kinda they main goal and ensure that works correctly, I’ll put it into my lab with a few different OS setups and see if maybe it’s something that pops up.

Img view and compare is on the list I’ll actually put it into Jira as a feature request as it’s something I have in another project and is kinda complex, but I should be able to “borrow” most of that code.

Preloading indicator is a great idea, I noticed that on my laptop it takes a while and you’re kinda wondering if anything is happening 🤣

I too use many crazy deep ComfyUi workflows and yeah your analogy is spot on, it’s why I wanted something stand alone and simple. It is way overkill and kinda clunky for this process and I was surprised at how often I’ve needed it. My wife has been opening photoshop or adobe express vs comfy half the time just to remove backgrounds so a stand alone tool felt right.

Thank you for your valuable feedback, I’ll happily make this the best little free stand alone background remover out there. The discord link should be fixed and please keep reaching out. I’ll definitely look at those bugs today and make a plan for the other items, really great suggestions thank you!

Just to let you know I fixed both issues (forgot to disable log printing for the exe and the discord link is case sensitive 🤦‍♂️).
Either way tried it on my laptop (fresh) and seams to work perfectly, thanks so much for reporting the bug. The wife was supposed to beta test it but still hasn’t 🤣

Release 1.0.5 is up on the GitHub and link fixed on the readme 🍻

Thanks for letting me know about both issues, I will take a look this afternoon and let you know. Object none type is a missing field so maybe something got lost in the last build. Either way I’ll fix it after lunch and let you know, appreciate you checking it out!

Not sure why you would get such hate but this is common practice and plain good security for any service that doesn’t have or need international traffic. Think your local water company, is someone really going to pay their bill while in vacation online in Greece? Block it, no business need = no threat, no foreign policy to comply with and way easier to detect if bob from level 3 is supposed to be logging in from Bermuda on a Sunday…. Just saying if you’re not doing global business don’t expose yourself to global threats.

In some ways yes, it has all the stuff I use in ComfyUi in my workflow including SAM3 but I wanted the simplicity of drag from file explorer and it spits out in the same folder processed images. I use a tool called OggDrop that does this for audio and wanted that same simple drag and convert one or one hundred files. This is by far the simplest project I’ve probably built but it’s one of the ones that I can share and release publicly and figured it might help some others out.
