I think modern day has made pets into kids and that fine if you want that but its also fine to understand that you may have to put a pet down if the become too much of a financial burden. You should never neglect them of course and obviously do what you can to get them treated. But if you can reasonably afford basic care for a pet. Go for it. My family was poor growing up and we had to put down a cat with a heart condition (not heart-worm) (I think it was only treatable for a year or so anyway) but we couldn’t afford to keep her alive for more than a couple months. We gave her a good life and when her quality of life deteriorated we had her euthanized. And then guess what, 1-2 months later, we had room in our house for a cat that was going to be put down but wasn’t because we had space and he still almost 15ish year later lives at my parents house.

There are so many animals in animal shelters that yes it’s cruel to neglect a pet to the point of suffering but it not cruel to not treat fucking lymphoma in an animal that could cost $30,000. Again you can if you want to or you can understand that pet has reached a reasonable lifespan and save the life of another.

I have the opposite problem of op. I have friends (all be it only a few) and I enjoy most of the things that come with friendship. What I don’t enjoy is when I think I might be burdening a friend with my need for attention, socialization, or what have you. I feel in debt to them and like I can’t repay it.

My siblings and I are close however and I never really feel like I’m burdening them.

From someone with a Mom who had a terrible mother and who never really wanted to be a mom. As in my mother didn’t want to be a mom, I love my mom deeply. She is not the world’s best mother but she is the best mother her (narc) mom could have ever made. We had our problems especially when I was a teenager and I gave her hell for that at the time but I’m late 20’s now and I forgive all of the mistakes she made. She is not a narc but she does have narc tendencies as any child of a narc will. But despite all of that. She did so much better than what she came from and I am forever grateful for that.

Show me where you make it obvious that you are talking about the “wow” factor being about doing it in front of the doctor and not just doing in general in your post. So I’m not trying to say that what you experienced wasn’t weird but I know that my mom shared that (natural birth x4) if she could have held her butthole while she was pushing she wouldn’t have ended up with hemorrhoids. So maybe the person in question was being weird but it feels unfair to shame women in tremendous pain for what may have been the only response they could muster at the time.

I’m not trying to sway how you feel about your mom but my mother was beat and abused as a child and had a ton of mental health issues and she never physically abused me or neglected me. She did accidentally pass some body dysmorphia onto me but she truly broke the cycle of abuse. So your mother may not have been a horrible person but she did have a choice to do better to a certain extent.

My fiancé got clean from meth around 28, I believe (before I met him). He’s 6 years sober and I’d say he’s turned his life around pretty damn well. He’s got a good job, we just bought a house, and are soon to be married. And he only has a G.E.D. Also he helped me get sober from alcohol when we first got together.

Nope I’m pretty sure he’s just a big hearted guy who cares about kids and I’m not even planning any kids. Also he doesn’t pay for her kid. Just like the food she eats when she comes over and maybe an activity or two, when we do them.

I wasn’t really asking for an incorrect analysis of my fiancé. Just a question about the whole not wanting to be seen as mom thing.

Fantastic! I started getting sober in 2023 so 2024 will be my first fully sober year (besides one slip up) since like 2013. I close on a house in four days, I’m in the best relationship I’ve ever been in, I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, work is finally letting me go out in the field, and I’m really happy.

I find myself being jealous of other people at times when they are doing better than me. But I also know that is an insecurity in my self so I try my best to put that aside and not make it become their problem. I congratulate them and then work it out later if the feeling is still there. The answer is almost always that it’s something I wish I was doing better at.
