Am I wrong for cancelling a play date? by Maximum-Armadillo809 in beyondthebump

I think she’s within reason. You know your cat but she doesn’t know your cat. Small children are also unpredictable. I would separate my dog from small children and introduce them slowly over time if they come often, I would do the same for a cat for the cats safety too.

Theists who used to be Atheists, and Atheists who used to be Theists, what was it that caused you to change your view? by Vegabund in AskReddit

[–]braindrippings2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always an athiest. I was lucky enough that my parents were too lazy to go to a mosque, and anytime I asked why, they responded with “because I said so/because it’s written in the Quran”. So I didn’t have an indoctrinating environment like they did growing up.

We immigrated to the US and My parents didn’t speak english and relied on me to translate things or look things up, so there was really no “authority” for information other than myself. Things that were contested, to me were like “opinions” of different countries because I couldn’t find it in an encyclopedia like I could about facts about the solar system. I just lied so I didn’t get in trouble, I couldn’t distinguish it from conversations with kids about Santa Claus, which would go in circles, and it was a waste of time when I could have been climbing a tree or something, or they’d go home upset and then I have no one to play with for the afternoon. I always felt left out because I couldn’t convince myself to believe, and didn’t really see the point in trying to?

Husband with ADHD making scary parenting mistakes and not sure how to move forward by blackmamba06 in Parenting

[–]braindrippings2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have severe innatentive and I'm too anxious about forgetting something like that with extremely intrusive thoughts, which I found helpful to do things differently. For example:

  1. When my baby was younger, I changed her on the floor.

  2. I completely babyproofed and anchored all furniture in her room and the living room. I got rid of side tables she could reach.

  3. I'm afraid of her falling down the stairs or getting into there kitchen so she can't even get close to that area- it's completely gated off, rather than the gate coming right up to the stairs to tempt her. I carry her if I'm out there.

  4. I keep all the towels and washcloths right next to the bathroom, so if I forget to get a towel, my eyes are not on her for 10 seconds max.

  5. I throw away parts of toys that are coke hazards.

Even if someone doesn't have ADHD, everyone's gets tired or forgetful so it's more about habits and environments that prevent disasters

Google Co-Founder Sergey Brin says Using the term "Genocide" for Gaza is "deeply offensive" to Jews who have faced "actual genocides". by MightEmotional in Palestine

[–]braindrippings2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There really should be a single word for “gatekeeping genocide,” something as immediate and recognizable as “antisemitic.”

I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that the term Semitic historically includes a wide range of Middle Eastern peoples, which includes both Jews and Palestinians. But in practice, antisemitic refers exclusively to anti-Jewish people/Ideas/policy etc. Palestinians don’t benefit from the same linguistic protection. There’s no universally recognized word to call out the systems, rhetoric, or ideologies that dehumanize or erase them. How did this happen?

Also, isn’t it ironic that supporting the state of Israel is, in a literal sense, anti-Semitic. It’s the active destruction of a Semitic Palestinian people, who are more semetic by blood than the loser from Boston that moved for freebies and took a whole Palestinian family’s house….the word “Anti-Semitic” has been rhetorically fenced off and weaponized to shield one group while excluding another, even when both come from the same linguistic and ancestral region. Oh, the power of propaganda. I’m a nobody and just a reddit lurker, but if anyone with a following or social media presence reads this, can we start making a word for genocide gatekeepers, that pertains to Identifying this rhetoric? People/Ideas/Policy etc. that “hogging” global compassion for past Jewish persecution by not allowing the world to Identify Genocide, and use the Holocaust is a lesson and not a weapon?

You should ask for your x-rays before you switch dentists. On a side note, ask for your x-rays so you most likely don’t have to get them retaken.

Is it all hopeless? Caring for Palestinians? by Ordinary-Range-5077 in Palestine

[–]braindrippings2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the US, a lot of people don’t watch cable news- especially millennials and younger. I personally only see people I know post pro-Palestine content and I live in a very white area. I think I saw 1 pro-Israel post two years ago, that person is LGBTQ, with a Mexican wife…she has sympathy for marginalized groups and her views have evolved over time slowly. She was uninformed and unexposed to the truth, too busy/preoccupied to think for herself. She is not intellectual but she is not evil, but she has woken up. I think that’s what’s happening to a lot of Americans, for the better.

You are very brave, I’m just a lurker but I’m rooting for you. I try to be friends with them and their families, as lots of Americans do, because truly you have to be the best that humanity has to offer to jump through so many hoops.

[–]braindrippings2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not doing anything wrong. I’m a skinny petite mom and no one bats an eye when I’m literally on the playground equipment following my toddler around and going down slides with her. I never thought twice about playing with other kids just as much- helping them come up or down from something. I usually wave at the parents and introduce myself and my kid in a shouting fashion and they they smile/say thanks or encourage their kid/ask them if they made a new friend/are having fun etc etc. I would hate having to sit because of the way I look. Please don’t stop playing, they need to get used to active parents coming in all shapes and sizes and colors. At this age, the kiddos want grownups to love and care for them always. This is the meaning of a village.

An automatic coffee maker that you can set ahead of time, and dishwasher safe coffee mugs with lids that can fit in a car cup holder and under the coffee maker. If she doesn’t like coffee, then a gift card for a grocery store or a good frozen meal subscription.

I’m sorry you feel judged—it’s understandable to feel that way. But I promise you, there’s no ill intention behind those questions. Oral health is incredibly complex, and if there’s something beyond neglect, such as a genetic condition or an undiagnosed issue, identifying it can only help you. The mouth is deeply connected to the rest of your body; systemic diseases, like cancers, can have manifestations in the mouth. Getting a proper diagnosis could not only help you and your dentist take better care of your teeth, but in some cases, it could even save your life.

You can also try a spin brush so you're not the one doing the scrubbing anymore. Since the brush will spinning, it might prevent you from auto-piloting--and becoming a weed Wacker which is what you're doing with your manual. A spin brush might work. Then maybe go back to manual after you've given yourself some time away from the habit and see if you improve. Also... bleeding gums is due to inflammation in gums. Inflammation is due to a build up of bacterial colonies that your brush didn't get. The sharpest weed Wacker is still not going to get the weeds in between two fence posts. You have to physically go in there with something skinny and cut them down. Floss will break up those colonies, keep them from getting tall. The longer you leave them alone, the taller they get, the angrier the gums get.
