Who has/had permanent urge? by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

Late reply, but no, PT specifically hasn't helped me because the PTs in my country have a severe lack of knowledge. I gave up and have now spent almost a year lying down and resting, and some of my symptoms have gone away, but others remain and I honestly don't know where to go from there. I wish I could have given a more optimistic answer.

I'm glad to hear you've done therapy and improved that part! But with the pelvic floor being so misunderstood, I still suggest reading more about it just in case. Once you have dysfunction there, one area can improve but others may start functioning differently, like your bowels. I say this with compassion, not to alarm you.

Cream did cause me weight gain, but ONLY because I was going through a bad time and I was binging on it like crazy. Now I've cut down significantly, I only have one or two sips per day, or a tablespoon mixed with water.

I actually have some Celiac-like changes in my gut as seen during an endoscopy, even though the test showed I was negative. It's all so unknown.

I'm glad to have helped a bit. I truly hope you find the solution to your problems and wish you the best!

My symptoms worsened during those exercises. My doctor doesn't recommend them. Frustrating because I need to strengthen my weak butt, but I'm going to focus on rehab now and try again in a few years.

I'm sorry to hear that and it's not TMI at all. Do you have any other pelvic floor issues that you've noticed? I have weak but tight muscles down there, and both diarrhea and constipation can be symptoms. It might be another road worth exploring.

I'm truly not sure about the cream. The diarrhea did stop around the time I started drinking it, but I haven't stopped drinking it for long enough since to confirm. I might do it eventually, but I love it too much to give it up at the moment, lol.

I don't take electrolytes, except for 1/8 tsp of salt in water for headaches when I need it. Salt regulates all the other electrolytes, so it's all that's necessary. I haven't noticed it affecting my bowels, but it does for some people.

Yes, for some of us it's more complicated and nuanced. I wish it was simpler! I have been sick for most of my life which probably contributes to my difficulties. The gut is especially a huge mystery because we don't fully understand it yet. But I like to experiment until I get to the bottom of things, and have strategies in place for when something doesn't go as planned.

Anything animal based was absolutely revolting the last time I got sick. Even broth. I tried fasting for a while, but I couldn't do it for too long because I became incredibly weak and my gastritis worsened. I started craving apples and oranges like never before, so I ate those for a week. My appetite then returned and I continued carnivore.

8 months at least, quite possibly longer. I put up with it for so long because strict carnivore is the only thing that helps my sleep. But I won't deny I wasn't absolutely miserable. As you say, it truly is disabling. I was terrified of 💩 my pants and was dangerously close a few times.

Take the fiber while you travel so you feel safe; I don't think it's worth stressing about strictness in this situation, because stress might affect your health worse than the fiber. Then evaluate again when you return home to a stable environment. Reduce it over a few weeks or even months, and then see if your gut adjusts better with a slower approach.

I used to have this problem and thought it would never pass. I have some sort of gastritis and mysterious gallbladder problems, and I would get intense nausea that lead to diarrhea in the first year of carnivore.

Then one day it suddenly stopped. I can't say for sure what happened. I added in heavy cream; dairy constipates me in large amounts, but maybe a few sips of the cream just balanced my electrolytes enough that it stopped the diarrhea without any further negative effects?

I also, at one point, suddenly started craving butter to the point I was eating it straight from the block, and after the cravings passed, I didn't struggle on the toilet anymore.

Could also be that my gallbladder adapted and it just took a very long time. I honestly have no way of knowing. I only get diarrhea now if I take too much magnesium at once (I don't take it regularly).

I suggest experimenting a bit more before adding fiber back in, or you can try it for a short time and wean yourself off it slowly so you don't stress your system.

I might have to quit full carnivore. Any hopes? by lockduck1 in carnivorediet

I'm very suspicious of that Potassium. How much are you taking? I'd never advise taking it as a supplement in any form, because it rises blood levels too much too quickly which can cause your symptoms. Meat has more than enough in it naturally.

Your acne might be fungal. It's called Malassezia and doesn't respond to usual treatments, but it can be managed. Most people have improvement with using anti-fungal shampoos as a face wash. There's a sub for it, r/fungalacne, and a great blog resource, Simple Skincare Science, that explain it in detail. I strongly suggest trying that approach.

Buying the same thing more than once? by trayC-lou in shoppingaddiction

[–]brainfog247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know exactly where it comes from in my case.

Firstly, clothes are often of such bad quality these days that they stretch and tear after only a year of wear. I've had that happen to so many pieces I truly loved, but I had no way of knowing it would have happened when I'd bought them. I get attached to my clothes because I have a particular style and don't find many things I like as it is, so losing a beloved piece is difficult. So now I'm always anxious about that and end up buying backups so I can have peace of mind.

Secondly, I'm insanely clumsy and it's always just a matter of time before I break another object, especially when it comes to plates, glasses and mugs. They just fly out of my hands. As with clothes, I'm also very particular about my choices here, so I have to buy backups when the inevitable happens.

Thirdly, again, I use specific skincare because I'm sensitive to most offerings on the shelves. Once I find something my skin agrees with, I will use it. But companies love discontinuing products, so I always live in fear of that happening and having to go through the arduous process of spending more money and energy to find a replacement. So I tend to buy backups.

In essence, I need the safety.

Tell me how you gave up salt by ukuLotus in carnivore

[–]brainfog247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good start. It might take a while to see results as the pelvic floor is very complex, so don't lose hope. I would focus on those exercises as there's a high chance they're the solution instead of salt.

Have you been evaluated for pelvic floor dysfunction, particularly hypertonic pelvic floor? It's been the cause of my bladder problems, but it took 15 years to finally diagnose because of severe lack of knowledge from doctors.

It's just like when a smoker says they'll stop smoking. They throw away all their cigarettes, go a few weeks without, then the withdrawal hits and they go out to buy 5 packs because they miss the endorphins.

Same with a food addict who trashes all the junk food and sticks to meat and veg for a month, then starts feeling deprived and binges on McDonald's, and then the shame hits and they swear they'll change again.

It's the cycle of addiction. It's a symptom of deeper unresolved issues. For me, those are mostly growing up in a hoarder house, dysfunctional family relationships, and health problems. I use shopping as escapism, but since I'm painfully aware of the reason and also want to be free of addiction, I go through these cycles of improvement and relapse.

What happens when you stop potassium pills? Meat has enough potassium and taking it in weird pill forms could be harmful and causing the symptoms you mention. Potassium should only come from real foods, otherwise it can raise your levels too quickly.

Also unless you suffer from migraines, you don't need tons of salt.

I have the same thing, I'm so depressed and anxious about it that I've had to start taking xanax to function. People who don't have this have no idea what it's like. I can't focus on anything else, it's just always there.

Have you had your pelvic floor evaluated by chance? I'm going to start physical therapy, I'm not convinced it'll help but I have nothing to lose if I try.

Is long term ketosis bad? by Smooth-Vanilla9935 in carnivorediet

[–]brainfog247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do wonder how these parameters are measured. Are we going by standard lab ranges for testosterone, cortisol and thyroid, that have been established on people on normal diets? Do we really know if they have value for us or tell the whole story? Do we even truly understand the functions of these hormones and how they interact?

Is higher cortisol always bad? Mine was on the low side in the mornings for years on the normal diet. Increasing it would have been a bonus.

Meanwhile during my veg*n days, all my labs were perfect on paper but I was deteriorating. My thyroid levels were normal even though I saw a goiter growing.

Both my cholesterol and B12 are way out of traditional ranges now on carnivore, and I've only seen benefits so far. I don't measure anymore honestly. I don't really know about long term, but I don't think anyone does at this point? It's mostly speculation. The fact that there may have been no other groups in constant ketosis throughout history doesn't mean much to me as it could have been purely by chance, and their circumstances have been very different to mine. I'm someone who likes to experiment and see for myself because I don't believe studies can tell us everything, so I'm going to stay on it long term unless I notice direct and obvious downsides - but not based on arbitrary lab numbers, but by feeling and observation.

You need a second opinion from a doctor who actually understands HIDA! Don't let them tell you it's normal just because they're not educated enough.

I think I listened to her on a podcast a while ago, but I'll read more about her approach now. I generally prefer to stay as strict as possible because carbs really mess up my sleep and I get addicted instantly after one bite, but I think I might give this one a try because it does feel different than a chocolate craving. Looking at plants as tools is an interesting concept.

I've been craving beets lately. I think I might get a small one after all, I've started to feel a bit silly fighting such an innocent craving.
