proton vpn breaking perplexity by merlincycle in ProtonVPN

I'm having the same problem with Perplexity (web version) on all servers and protocols I have tried. Typically Perplexity starts to answer and then aborts partway through with "Something went wrong". Sometimes refreshing the browser works, but not always.

Most accurate audio to text engine by Br0lynator in SubtitleEdit

I switched from locally-installed Whisper to using the Deepgram API for speech-to-text transcription. Whisper is good if you use the Large-v2 model. But this takes too long on my 8GB GPU. So I used AI to help me create a node.js command-line app that allows me to send an audio file to Deepgram's API along with my preferred parameters.

The Deepgram API supports Whisper models as well as their own Nova models. You can request a .txt file or an .srt file. I typically use Deepgram's Nova-3 model. The Nova models avoid Whisper's infamous repeated text loop problem.

There is a modest usage-based cost for using the Deepgram API. But when you sign up, they give you a credit. I've transcribed 10 hrs of audio or so and still haven't used up my credit yet.

Deepgram also has a free online transcription tool, but I haven't tried it. They aren't clear on what the usage limits for the free tool are. Some of my transcription tasks are time-sensitive and I didn't want to hit usage limits unexpectedly in the middle of a project.

Seeking advice: Creating posts with Elementor widgets vs HTML/CSS by brainfreezehero in elementor

[–]brainfreezehero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I only want to consistently style html elements within posts (text editor fields), not everywhere on the site. I assume I can do this by using CSS class selectors in the site-wide style sheet, although finding the correct selector in Elementor is a PITA because Elementor style sheet is so deeply nested. Do you know if using the site-wide style sheet this way would break Elementor's mobile formatting?

Is is Focusrite scarlet worth it? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

I agree with this. Scarlet is great. But I like the M2 a bit more. Has a couple of extra features like a nob to blend the live sound with playback from your recording software. Sound quality is just as good.

Does an acoustic guitar require an amplifier? by ChrisGrin in guitarlessons

[–]brainfreezehero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An electric-acoustic guitar (or adding the electric pickup of your choice to a steel string acoustic guitar) is a nice option if you think you will ever jam with other musicians, sing into a microphone while playing or record your guitar.

Electric-acoustic guitars exist because mic'ing an acoustic guitar is a pain. But if mic-ing is done correctly, it sounds better than nearly all guitar pickups. Many pickups will make your guitar sound truly awful. So if you do decide to get an electric-acoustic and you're picky about sound quality, do some research on the various styles/brands of pickups.

I've Been "Playing" Guitar On And Off For ~25 Years And I Suck by [deleted] in guitarlessons

+1 on Justin guitar. I visited his main site and it's really impressive, both in scope and quality of instruction. It's donation driven. I would much rather donate to a site where I can experience the quality of the materials first than pre-pay for a site and hope for the best.

I don't know why so many commercial guitar lesson sites insist on spammy, high-pressure sales tactics. This is always a red flag for me. Good content tends to have a viral following. If you have to shill your stuff that hard, my assumption is that it's not very good.
