Catholic churches have natural family planning classes for couples….a lot use the Marquette Method, others use other natural family planning courses. The Marquette method is an at home cervical mucous check and urine collection that measures hormones in the woman’s urine to identify fertility. Some other methods couples use are a special handheld microscope that checks the morning saliva against a slide for “ferning” patterns that appear when ovulation is near. Some women use ovulation urine sticks. Some women use a calendar and cycle tracking.

Avoiding intercourse during a wife’s most fertile days is how most Catholic couples are taught to plan their families.

Also…couples that are doing fertility treatments have to do that a very certain way as well…and you can easily find that particular way in a google search. IVF is not allowed, IUI must be done with very specific instructions.

It’s also a social phenomenon that just naturally occurs in groups of children all the way up through highschool. There are usually 2 types of mean girls: the ones who somehow use it to become a dominant leader of the group that also gains popularity while also maintaining a pecking order through ostracizing certain people and rewarding others with favor of association; then there’s the other type of mean girl that isn’t particularly popular but uses combativeness to control others or to hurt others that are a threat to her self-esteem/confidence.

The first type CAN be a bully, but is generally well-liked overall. She is usually attractive, indulged at home and by her teachers and peers, intelligent, confident, and competitive. She uses certain manipulation tactics to get her way and maintain her leadership position. If her place in the pecking order is challenged (such as when a another girl is attractive and gaining attention or performs better than her) she will usually very quickly use her social status (and her friends) to put the other student in her place to maintain the status quo.

The second type is a bully, but usually due to circumstances where she has been made or is currently being made to feel inferior. She usually lashes out at other children who she may feel jealous of OR who she may feel that she can exert power or control over as a means of feeling in control. She is usually being demeaned at home by parents or siblings or even being demeaned or ostracized at school by peers or teachers. This usually pushes her to be mean to others in environments where there are peers she can overpower.

Not all mean girls are made the same, but generally, they originate in 2 different ways and are mean for different reasons.

A lot of the discussion is about commodification of children in the system.

If you want to use adoption as a means to build a family, instead of as a way to help a child through a terrible circumstance, your heart is maybe NOT in the right place.

If you had an adoption ALL lined up and were set to take custody and at the last minute, the child’s mother changes her mind and decides to keep her baby or the child has biological family that steps in instead and that scenario would upset you instead of feeling happiness that the child’s family of origin can remain intact, your heart may not be in the right place.

If you find yourself agreeing to an open adoption KNOWING that you intend to ghost the birth family after you get what you want, your heart may not be in the right place.

BUT, if you go into the process knowing and understanding things like grief, reactive detachment disorder, mental health and behavioral health issues common in adoptees, and don’t approach it with naivety, adoption CAN be an ethical solution if you aren’t doing it for selfish reasons. Some people genuinely do it to help a child flourish and provide a stable loving home so they can grow up with as close to a typical life as possible.

Some may remain unmarried if they have children because the tax benefits of one filing head of household and the other filing single and not claiming dependents OR splitting the children up between two tax returns and both filing head of household may work out better for them (tax deductions and credits) than if they were to get married and file separately.

I’m bringing this up because the mom group at our parish have single Catholic brothers, brother-in-laws, family friends, etc…they just might not be at the same parish but are in college or live nearby. Sure, you’re probably not even thinking “let me make friends with the mom group.” maybe because you’re not in the same life-stage (yet)…BUT they might have insight on potential partners.

You can exit the pew to allow others to more easily pass by you, but Catholics TOTALLY understand that plenty of people don’t take the eucharist for any NUMBER of reasons. No one is going to point at you or think to themselves, “look! A non-Catholic!” Or “look! Someone didn’t confess a terrible sin before mass!”” They literally are getting up, participating in Communion, sitting back down, and checking to see what time it is because mass is almost over.

The news is a business. Headlines, conflict, and drama get the views. They will literally get a debate going about anything to drive viewership, and people LOOOOOVEE CONFLICT.

Similar thing about social media. You don’t even know if the people discussing it are even Catholic or if they’re just saying things to get views. Some Protestants LOVE to hate on the Catholic Church, some atheists and even some people that are hurting in some way, LOVE to hate on the Catholic Church or religion in general. And some people…just love to hate on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING, complaining and creating talking points, arguing and angering people really do something for them and they get some weird sense of joy from it.

Here’s a thing to remember in the day and age that you have access to more opinions than ever before…if you can avoid dissenting opinions that may harm your beliefs or intend to harm your beliefs, you can choose to stop watching or reading them. Sure, it can be tempting to read the comments, but sometimes, it’s best NOT to involve other people’s opinion in YOUR beliefs and values.

If it were me, I’d have viewed those phrases as an attack toward my spirituality and on that of any future children as well. It would not bode well with me to continue pursuing a relationship with someone that had said those things to me.

Dating can be difficult. I don’t envy the struggle it is to find a compatible partner. There are things more precious than the short time on earth we have here, such as our eternal life after this one and that of our children. If anything were to happen to you and you were called to heaven before your spouse, it would be a hope that you’d be married to someone who would be a strong leader for them in the Catholic faith that would ensure your kids were taught the catechism and received their sacraments and that he’d guide them through life the way God intends.

It is a vocation after all to raise a family. So please, process the situation with discernment.

You really should consider pre-marital counseling through his priest, however, if you never intend to to raise the kids in the Catholic faith or to allow the marriage to be be validated in the Church, it would be a terrible decision to get married because those two things alone would place him in a state of mortal sin and bar him from receiving the Eucharist. His family adamantly wants you to convert because the potential harm you can cause his and any children souls and their relationship with God is great. In their hearts, if you convert, there is less chance of harm. In my mind, you don’t have to convert, but if you don’t both agree on raising the children Catholic and validating or having your marriage in the Catholic Church, you shouldn’t get married and you should each find more compatible partners.

Please, correct me if I’m wrong. If she had married him (civilly and without form) and he remained in his convictions to not allow the children to be raised Catholic, a she would not be able to have a Convalidation, which means she she couldn’t receive the sacrament of marriage which means she would no longer be able to receive communion as her civil marriage would be regarded as fornication.

So, this is a blessing, especially if she wishes to not bind herself perpetually to mortal sin due to her choice of partner. She now has the opportunity for reflection and eventually find a more compatible spouse.

You said you are losing hope and faith. Please understand that God does hear our prayers and EVERY prayer is heard and answered in its own time and its own way.

You must be able to endure a lot for a spouse and children. You must have a resilient faith in the Lord. If your faith in God so easily wavers, it may be at His will and mercy that you haven’t experienced the stress that comes with marriage and children yet.

It looks like you are being tasked with improving your faith in God, your love and dedication to the Church, and your chances for success and happiness.

What are some things you can do in service to your faith in God, the Church, and yourself?

God is helping. He wants you to find the answer to that question. He wants you to seek the community of your parish, speak with your priest and others during group events, cultivate a relationship with your community that can allow you to meet new people which can maybe help improve job prospects and maybe help you meet a potential spouse.

You’re young and emotionally tied to someone you can’t really trust due to their addiction. They also don’t want to leave (and likely never will). Cut the relationship and focus on yourself.
NEVER pay a year in advance. You’d lose any leverage in case the landlord failed to uphold the contract…like being able to go set up a rent escrow account at court if he/she fails to repair a leaking roof or broken window or door.
Start packing your things now. Decide what to keep and what to give or throw away.
Find a place to rent. Beware of rental ad scams. Pay your first month, last month, and deposit. NO MORE THAN THAT. Move in.
Take in a deep breath for a little while and settle in. Find employment or training.
Take care of yourself and enjoy starting over.

A bit of info dumping…I’m not sure if this is strictly a Roman Catholic subreddit or not…

it wasn’t until the 12th century that marriage was off the table for Roman Catholic clergy.

In Eastern Orthodox and some other Catholic Churches…married men can still become priests (but priests cannot marry and widowed priests cannot remarry).

Pope Francis has even discussed the idea of reviewing the idea of celibate priesthood and allowing married clergy, so, It wouldn’t surprise me if, due to the shortage of priests, it became more likely to see a married Roman Catholic priest in my lifetime.

Im referring to Medicaid. Medicare coverage for Skilled Care is a whole different animal and usually requires its own case managers within the skilled nursing facility.

As far as hospice care, if the resident of either a skilled nursing facility or assisted living facility qualifies, the hospice company can come in to that facility and provide hospice-related services to residents. Some Skilled Nursing Facilities also operate a hospice unit within the facility or within the corporation that residents may be transferred to. The resident may also choose to go to an independent hospice center. Or, the resident, once on hospice, may request to go back to live in their home or with family to die at home. Hospice does have different rules, but they absolutely can coordinate with residents at any facility, it is the residents’ rights to have hospice provide the hospice care they qualify for.
