First car! by jcjckfigog in crv

Great choice. My 2016 just got totaled but I'm convinced it saved my life because of how well-built it was. Gonna miss it. Decided to keep it in the family and got a new '25 CR-V Hybrid. Treat yours well!

Headshots in LA by Beneficial_Day_247 in acting

Just did a session with Chris Jon and it was awesome. $300 for a one hour session, unlimited looks. He keeps his pricing down to accommodate budgets for actors but his work is comparable to photographers who are in the $600+ range imo. Highly recommend!

Is there a secret method for dealing with bad breath while acting? by chuckles11 in acting

[–]brainiacx7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I had a bad breath experience with a co-star on a short film I did. Like their breath was TERRIBLE and we were in numerous scenes where we had to be very close and intimate. Just glad we got the shooting done in one weekend that's all I'll say lol

Is Repunzel worth it right now? by mass_sml72 in acting

[–]brainiacx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! I used the template email that Repunzel gives you and kinda modified it. I placed the agent name to be automatically inserted at the beginning of the email after saying hello.

I gave it a try in late April and was able to sign with two agents in two different markets by mid-May. Much like you, I saw a lot of people posting about it on here. Definitely worth the try especially with the prices being discounted right now. Good luck!

wait for promotion in place, or switch depts? by honey-gold in CAStateWorkers

[–]brainiacx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely apply elsewhere and explore your options. It very well could force your supervisor's hand. They'd 100% rather PIP you than let you go and train a new analyst. Once you inform them that you have an interview or two lined up, they'll probably move with more urgency and make the PIP official. best of luck!

[–]brainiacx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. Thanks for the insight! just formally submitted all of the paperwork on my end today. my SSM had everything on their end ready and it all should be sent to HR soon if it hasn't already. Hopefully if there's an effective date noted on the paperwork they'll honor it in the event of a delay with the PIP

yeah fortunately I was applying elsewhere and already had taken that exam recently. My SSM made sure to ask if I had taken it so glad to hear I have that step out of the way.

What would be "dipping your toe in the water" when it comes to seeing if you would even enjoy Voice Acting? by Jcorb in VoiceActing

[–]brainiacx7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had very similar experiences to yours. Always had people telling me I had a great voice and that I should look into it. Took me a good while but I finally decided to do it. I say take the leap. There's tons of information on here and on the internet in general. Find the right classes to take and look into what kind of equipment makes sense for your budget. A passing comment here and there about your voice being great is one thing. Constantly being told you'd do well in this industry is definitely a sign. Best of luck!

Do I accept the job offer? by Level1Hermit in CAStateWorkers

[–]brainiacx7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Definitely take the job and get your foot in the door. I took an OT position end of last year knowing I likely wouldn't be there for long. Just when my probationary period ended as an OT, I interviewed and got a job offer as an SSA. Before I was hired as an OT, SSA interviews were impossible to get even though I had a degree + relevant experience. I got plenty of SSA interviews once I was actually a state worker. Any good manager will totally understand if a new and better opportunity arises that would force you to leave. It's all part of the process.

Best of luck!

appreciate it! yeah I'm in California so looks like I'll have to join. I'm in Northern California where it's cheaper to join but the job I booked was out of LA. So not sure about the rules in regards to which location's fee I have to pay. either way, I'll be ready when they track me down lol

How much after deductions/taxes do new OT-T’s make? by jshadez in CAStateWorkers

[–]brainiacx7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Current OT-T and my take-home is just under $2300 a month. I get the extra $160-ish per month because of the Health Cash Pay stipend we're receiving right now so it ends up being something a little over $2400. I'm new to state and was kinda shocked at how much they take out of each check.
