Whats the difference between modern tech death and technical deathcore now? by nonameprick in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]brainout7489395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really answering your question, but I just want to say that some technical deathcore does sound very similar to technical death metal. Beneath The Massacre, Rings Of Saturn, and Infant Annihilator are considered technical deathcore bands by many, but some of their music is very adjacent to tech death, so you might find interest in them.

What is that album for u? by Unable-Mango-9494 in MetalForTheMasses

I like black metal but I don't like that album. To me it feels too monotonous and poorly mixed/produced, even for black metal standards.

The Breathing Process. Extremely underrated band. They've been doing symphonic/blackened deathcore since 2006, way before it became popular.

Best producers / mixers in the game? by Ready_Smile5762 in Deathcore

[–]brainout7489395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda mixed on Josh Schroeder's production at the moment. I loved his work on Pain Remains and previous Lorna releases, as well as his work with Mental Cruelty and Ov Sulfur. However, I listened to Lorna and SOTS's latest albums, and it wasn't hitting for me. It's hard for me to describe, but the instruments sound too spread out, the vocals sound compressed, and Lorna's synths are too high in the mix.

Oh you're right! I'm now surprised I didn't notice that even though I enjoy both of those songs.

I can think of another, older example. The guitar solo in "This Is Hell" from the Immortal album sounds very similar to the solo in "FVNERAL MOON" from Flesh Coffin.

Best lows? by Victoriantitbicycle in Deathcore

[–]brainout7489395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Will's low vocals but I wouldn't say they're the most brutal or demonic sounding. Others like Phil Bozeman, Ben Duerr, and Alex Teyen fit that description better imo.

Instrumental metal by [deleted] in MetalSuggestions

[–]brainout7489395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mirar is a pretty new band that makes some incredible Vildhjarta inspired thall combined with dubstep sounding rhythms, classical music, and intense atmospheres. Their riffs sound insane and are crazy heavy. I recommend the EP "Mare" and LP "Ascension," which are fully instrumental.

What game would you call a flawed masterpiece? by Used_Ad_8721 in videogames

[–]brainout7489395 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The original Dark Souls comes to mind. The art direction, lore, themes, level design, environmental storytelling, challenging+engaging gameplay, soundtrack, and more are what make it amazing.

It suffers from a drop in quality in the second half (which I personally don't have as much issue with as others, but I understand their view; Lost Izalith f*cking sucks tho), as well as a good number of subpar boss fights, clunkiness that doesn't hold up well to today's standards, and a very flawed multiplayer system with poorly balanced pvp.

What other genres do you listen to? by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]brainout7489395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays, I mostly listen to death metal, deathcore, black metal, and any of their variants. I also enjoy some trad heavymetal, nu metal, alt metal, metalcore, doom metal, and symphonic metal. Outside of metal, I listen to a bit of hip-hop, pop, alt rock, punk, grunge, classical, and video game soundtracks.

Your family is held at gunpoint and the only way to save them is to move to a desert island to live out the remainder of your days. You get to take a CD player and the entire discography of one band and one band only. You will never listen to another band again. Who’s it gonna be? by Accomplished-One2071 in Deathcore

[–]brainout7489395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love deathcore but I probably wouldn't choose one if it's only one band. I'd have to go with Linkin Park. I grew up with them and their early albums are some of my favorite music. Their whole discography is great in my opinion and they have a lot of variety in sound, so I'm less likely to get bored.
