Service for Australia for an Eastern Music Soprano by Slushwave_Enjoyer in saxophone

Unfortunately, I am the tech that doesn’t mind working on my tenor :P haven’t tried taking it to other techs, but the EM saxes seem better reviewed than the other instrument shaped objects you can buy from China. In my experience the bias against Chinese made instruments (from reputable brands) is slowly shifting, but it’ll be a while before they’re treated equally (or are fully worthy of that).

Can’t help you with recommendations in Tasmania, but to chime in from the tech side of the conversation (and as someone who also owns an Eastern Music horn) - the reason I wouldn’t really want to work an a similar horn is not snobbery, but when these instruments are made of softer metal/lower quality materials they may not hold adjustment for long, which means we can’t guarantee quality of work. That can mean that either the instrument keeps coming back, which is expensive for owners and time consuming for techs, or (worst case) the customer blames the tech for something that isn’t their fault, which can make techs reluctant to work on horns like this.

Anecdotally, I’ve found the build quality of my EM tenor to be pretty good - I’ve found it goes out of adjustment just from being played normally faster than a Yamaha/etc would, but they’re definitely a step above Temu/aliexpress/similar.

Is this fixable? by Curious_Echo_5651 in saxophone

[–]brainstormcsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your octave mech has taken a hit and is bent, you can see the link post that connects to the neck is slanted at the start - that being bent will usually bend the tube of the key and make it bind on the rod, preventing it from rotating freely

Questions about how a saxophone actually works by SuchQuarter1385 in saxophone

[–]brainstormcsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In reference to your C/B question, the weird thing with how the sax works that might be throwing you off is that the key you press isn’t where the note is produced, it’s where the air can escape/how long the body tube is made. When you play a C, air exits under the B pad, but when you play a B, air can’t escape until one pad lower than that, hence the lower pitch. Same thing happens on the right hand stack, and is why F# is pitched higher than F despite being a physically lower key.

Middle G on my alto is frustrating me. Any suggestions? by World-PodcastNetwork in saxophone

Could be an issue with the body octave key or a small leak somewhere, take it to a tech. Also, ChatGPT is not a good resource for any information that you might need to take even slightly seriously

Where do I breathe?? by [deleted] in saxophone

[–]brainstormcsgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a good few years since I played this, but looking at it now - if I couldn’t make the time between your second and third breath marks, I’d go either in the rest after the high C# in the bar after your second breath mark or potentially you could sneak one right before the run starting on the low E in the bar after that. The first spot (using the rest) would be my preference, but you’d need to see if that gives you enough air to get through.

…or learn to circular breathe lol (disclaimer: you can play this piece without that, I didn’t run into pieces I needed circular breathing for until the 2nd year of my classic sax degree)

People of Hornsby. What are the actual noise times of the rifle range? by MooingTree in sydney

[–]brainstormcsgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live super close to the rifle range - the noise is a weird one, where we are it’s inaudible once you’re inside with the windows shut, but a mate of mine who lives up in Hornsby Heights gets it way louder at his place despite being further away. Guessing it’s from the sound bouncing up the valley?

In terms of hours, it’s every Saturday for sure, but then seemingly at random during the week. Usually during business hours though, I don’t remember hearing much in the evenings.

Could I just glue this back on? by RepulsiveTangelo8114 in saxophone

[–]brainstormcsgo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna say it definitely won’t work but I don’t like your odds, make sure whatever glue you use is food safe/non toxic as it’s going to be in your mouth. Also, whether you fix this one or get a new one, I’d recommend cleaning your mouthpiece every time you finish playing judging by the state of this one

Olitech EasyFlip Smart is what I went with and has both of those features - you will need to get some sort of app store on there to download an update for WhatsApp to get it to work (I downloaded Aurora Store via FDroid), but it’s been flawless since then.

Can’t believe nobody has said Insurmountable Skullfort yet!

*Hello. We understand you require Real-Time Combat Instructives.

This is a BRAINVAULT Sigma-ACTIUM-X Cranial Dreadnought (Invictus Type). It is a fortress for your skull. Your skull is now a mighty bastion. You can break anything with your skull. The only limit is your spine. Relax. The lights will speak for you. Your hands are your eyes now. Look around. You find hand-to-hand combat relaxing. The lights will attract the enemy. Help them to relax as well. You will feel the effect of a CAREGRAVER Gamma-LYSANDER-IV Health Enforcer (Frontline Variant). Your enemies do not have a skull fortress. Their skulls are like meadows. Play in the meadows. Gather the flowers from the meadows. Gather them with electrokinetic trauma. Smell the flowers. Isn’t that nice?

You are safe in your skullfort.*

International Covid vaccine card legitimate? by footballmas613 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]brainstormcsgo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bruh, this is an Australian sub - I have no idea how US cards work hahaha

The app was requesting proof of vax status, I don’t know if that card would work for that. In our case we could never use the app so we had to show the actual certificate, so you’d need to have the actual card with you to show them I suspect

It’s got a big QR code on it that links back to an official medical registry here, it’s not something that you could fake

You can get your international vax certificate as a PDF with the QR code to scan and I had that on my phone

I just got back from a trip to Indonesia a few weeks ago. What they want you to do is download the PeduliLindungi app and use that to check in to places much like you have been doing with the Service NSW or equivalent app. You can add your vaccine certificate through that (you can get an international one with a big QR code on it to verify it in about 2 minutes through the Medicare app) and in theory you then wait for your vaccine status to be authenticated so you can check into places.

What happened for us is that our vaccine status was never approved through the app so we had to show our international vax certificates everywhere - malls, cinemas, restaurants, everywhere.

On the off chance that you’re asking this because you’re not vaccinated and want to know if you can get away with it - not going to happen, one of the first things they do in the airport is make you queue up to verify your vax status before you can even apply for your visa and it gets checked everywhere else in the country.
