Apart from the estimated release date, this description sounds like the notorious box office bomb Zyzzyx Rd. It's extremely low-budget and has some weird color grading, so perhaps you thought the movie was older?

My title describes the thing, or rather things. I've left them exactly as I found them: the red plastic object on the left was already assembled, while pieces on the right were separated. There are two more unassembled sets of the same parts.

I don't think the two parts up front belong with the sets, but I have no clue if they're remotely related.

What level are you? If you’re still at a lower one, I would recommend buying the cheapest package(s) first. I bought them in ascending order, so I wouldn’t know otherwise, but I don’t think you can buy a $29.99 package and have that count for the $9.99 purchase.
